Chapter 2697: Chapter 2698: They Are on the Turtle’s Back

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”It’s the clan leader grandpa who arranged for them to go out to sea to protect me, and they have some skills.”

”Oh? What special abilities do they have?” the great elder asked.

Jiang Yichun glanced at Bai Ruozhu, raised his hand slightly, and the water vapor in the air condensed, transforming into a water lily in his hand, but in the next second, it turned into a small sword, flew out, circled in the air, and returned to his hand.”

The great elder and others had a knowing look in their eyes, and he said with a smile, ”Merfolk mostly can control water, but few are as skillful as this young friend.”

This sentence praised Jiang Yichun, but not excessively, meaning that water control is not a rare ability.

”I heard that the ancestors of the merfolk had the ability to control water,” Jiang Yichun said in a calm and unflustered voice.

The great elder paused, then laughed, ”This young man has ambition, not bad, not bad.”

The second elder beside him stared at Jiang Yichun’s face as if trying to see something, even frowning slightly, probably noticing something from Jiang Yichun’s appearance.

Bai Ruozhu was not nervous, after all, the merfolk had examined her back then, and since the children of the holy maiden showed no sign of awakening bloodline, they weren’t worthy of taking away.

The great elder glanced at Duannian again, but didn’t recall anything, probably thinking that Duannian and Jiang Yichun’s eyebrows and eyes had some similarity, he asked, ”Are these two merfolk relatives?”

”He is my cousin Jiang Feng,” Jiang Yichun replied, as saying Duannian’s name would definitely remind many people of him.

”I see,” the great elder said, ”You have come a long way, you must be tired, how about resting first, and the clan will host a welcome banquet for you tonight?”

Bai Ruozhu nodded and said, ”Then we’ll trouble the great elder.”

The great elder still smiling, ”Wenyu, please take them.”

When Bai Ruozhu and the others bid farewell, she noticed a flash of sharpness in the great elder’s eyes, truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

The group followed Wenyu to their quarters, a bamboo house a little better than ordinary residences. To avoid exposing their relationship, Bai Ruozhu didn’t share a room with Jiang Yichun but stayed with Fo Lanying.

Jiang Yichun naturally stayed with his ”cousin,” and after Wenyu saw them settled, he left.

Once everyone was gone, Bai Ruozhu instructed Fo Lanying to keep watch while she went to find the Astrologer.

”Did you notice anything unusual?” she asked.

The Astrologer sharing a room with Ning Yu looked at him and said, ”Brother, can you set up a soundproof barrier?”

Ning Yu nodded and did so, and only then did the Astrologer say, ”We’re not on an island hidden by an array, but on a giant sea turtle!”

”What!” Bai Ruozhu was shocked, they had walked a considerable distance, how could there be such a huge sea turtle?

”I’m surprised too. Such Deep Sea Colossal Turtles only exist in myths or appear in the most dangerous deep seas, extremely mysterious. Unexpectedly, the merfolk have captured it as their Merfolk Island. The Deep Sea Colossal Turtle sleeps all year, but a slight movement can cover hundreds of meters, faster than our boat. In this case, Merfolk Island doesn’t have a fixed location,” the Astrologer said, somewhat excited.

”When we leave, they might use some secret method to make the turtle move. Next time we find this place, it may be impossible to locate Merfolk Island again.”

Ning Yu realized, ”No wonder Merfolk Island is hard to find, not only due to the protective array and barrier, but also because its location isn’t fixed.”

Bai Ruozhu frowned deeply, ”How do merfolk have such capabilities? Isn’t the Deep Sea Colossal Turtle willing to let them control it?”

”On one hand, the Deep Sea Colossal Turtle sleeps year-round, and in the deep sea, many fish and shellfish make their home on its back, and it doesn’t mind. On the other hand, although it’s powerful, it has a simple mind, and with special secret methods, it can be controlled while asleep. However, ordinary people can’t dive into the deep sea to find it, but merfolk, being half-fish, definitely have this ability,” the Astrologer replied.

”Also, usually when the Deep Sea Colossal Turtle wakes up, it moves suddenly, fast enough to throw off anything on its back. But now, with an array and barrier, it might pose some inconvenience when it moves, but it won’t throw off the people,” the Astrologer concluded.

Bai Ruozhu felt enlightened, unexpectedly, there really is such a large turtle, and she didn’t notice at all being on it.

”Those elders of the merfolk are not easy to deal with. Living past thirty is unusual, let’s be careful not to slip up. I’ll take a look around tonight,” Bai Ruozhu said.

The two were aware of Bai Ruozhu’s abilities and didn’t stop her, instead advising her to be cautious.

”I won’t tell others about the giant turtle, afraid they might be too shocked and reveal our position,” the Astrologer said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”It’s best to be cautious.”

Returning to the room, Fo Lanying looked worried, ”Should have brought Xiaoyuan along, always worried it’s unsafe.”

”You miss him, don’t you?” Bai Ruozhu raised an eyebrow, but if Yuan Licheng had come along, it would be too easy for someone to seize the boat, and they’d have no way to retreat.

”No, just worried he’d cause trouble,” Fo Lanying’s voice lowered a lot, her face turning red.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh out loud, ”As if you being there would stop him from causing trouble? You can help him?”

”Ruozhu!” Fo Lanying screamed, ”How could you be so lewd!”

The two playfully tussled for a bit, then heard someone leave, exchanged a glance, and quieted down.

The merfolk had arranged someone to surveillance them.

Fo Lanying lowered her voice, ”Those four elders give me a very bad feeling, you know my Divine Sense is strong, seeing them is like seeing...”

She paused, thinking, ”It’s like seeing something blood-stained, making one nauseous.”

”Could it be that their murderous aura is so strong that it gives you that feeling?” Bai Ruozhu guessed.

”I’m not sure, but we must be extra cautious, after all, this is their territory,” Fo Lanying said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, remaining silent for a long time.

After a while, Jiang Yichun and Duannian came over, and once they were sure no one was watching, Duannian finally spoke, ”I wish to find my parents tonight. Since the elders are alive, maybe my parents...”

He clenched his teeth, ”It’s not that I want to acknowledge them; I just want to know why they abandoned me so heartlessly. But rest assured, I understand the current situation and won’t expose myself.”

”I understand how you feel, but they’re still wary of us now. You shouldn’t act rashly, let’s wait a bit,” Bai Ruozhu advised Duannian, ”Moreover, we also need to search for Achun’s mother.”

Jiang Yichun lowered his gaze, looking somewhat heavy-hearted, and after a long pause he said, ”They didn’t mention the holy maiden at all today; I’m afraid it might just raise my father’s hopes in vain again.”
