Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2686: Chapter 2687: There Must Be a Traitor

”Send someone to find a few Gu Masters to take a look.” the great elder said.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly thought of Song Yi’s matter and quickly reminded, ”When you look for Gu Masters, be sure to be cautious and avoid hiring an evil Gu Master at all costs, otherwise the consequences will be unimaginable. Before we set out, there was quite a disturbance in the Fusang Imperial Palace, where an evil Gu Master used poisonous insects to control the royal family members and even managed to control the Emperor for a time. Fortunately, it ended without disaster, and the Emperor was safe, but it was frightening enough. Now that evil Gu Master Song Yi is still missing and has yet to be captured.”

Both Heluo and the great elder were quite shocked. The great elder, being more experienced, asked with some doubt, ”Is he a Fusang person? Why does the name sound like someone from Zhongyuan?”

”He used the identity of the nearby islanders to enter the Fusang Capital and become an officer, but in fact, he is from Zhongyuan. He conspired with his brother, who aimed to seize the throne in Zhongyuan while he planted undercover agents in Fusang. Fortunately, his brother fell from power and has already perished.” Bai Ruozhu explained briefly, as it would take a day to explain fully.

”Could it be that this person did something to the Fertility Tree ten years ago?” Heluo suddenly said, ”Ten years ago, we received a woman from Fusang to give birth at the Fertility Tree, which was the first time we allowed outsiders in. Although we eventually sent her away, the Fertility Tree started showing problems not long after.”

”It’s possible, but I think the poisonous insects may have been brought in earlier. The earthworms parasitized by the poisonous insects need to crawl for a long time to reach such depths before they hatch. I think it’s possible it took two or three years. There’s also the possibility that some of your clan members left and unknowingly brought the poisonous insects back after someone did something to them.” Bai Ruozhu said.

Heluo and the great elder both nodded, acknowledging the possibility.

”I’ll go check the records later to see who left the island twelve or thirteen years ago; maybe we can find some clues.” the great elder said.

”Alright, thank you, great elder.” Heluo bowed.

The great elder hurriedly left, and Bai Ruozhu was also about to leave when Heluo stopped her, apologetically saying, ”Madam Bai, Xuan You is my younger sister. Our parents passed away early, so I spoiled her. I hope you can be understanding.”

Bai Ruozhu glanced at him and said, ”Since you know she is spoiled, why don’t you teach her properly? She indeed has her pride but is always used as a gun by others, which will eventually lead to trouble.”

After speaking, she left without waiting for Heluo’s response.

Heluo was momentarily stunned, unable to understand her words. Perhaps men are careless and don’t often consider who is using Xuan You.

That night, Bai Ruozhu and the others had just fallen asleep when they heard noise outside.

Fo Lanying, who shared the room with Bai Ruozhu, said impatiently, ”Why is the Golden Wings Clan nocturnal? Are they owls?”

Bai Ruozhu had a bad premonition and decided to get up, putting on clothes.

”What does it matter to us? They don’t even let us sleep in peace.” Fo Lanying grumbled, but got up to put on her coat as well.

Soon, Gao Zhou’s voice came from outside, ”Ruozhu, are you awake?”

Bai Ruozhu went to open the door, ”Father, what’s wrong?”

”The great elder of the Golden Wings Clan was attacked and is now in critical condition. Many clan members are saying we did it. Heluo is calming them down, but some people are particularly agitated.” Gao Zhou said.

”The great elder was attacked?” Bai Ruozhu frowned, ”He said he would check the list of clan members who left over the past decade, and now he gets attacked. That’s too coincidental. Clearly, there is an internal traitor on their island.”

”Yes, I also heard people say the records are missing, and that might be what the killer was after.” Gao Zhou said.

”We should go and take a look. We can’t avoid this trouble, so we might as well clarify things.” Bai Ruozhu said.

Fo Lanying followed, lazily saying, ”These birdmen really need a beating. Heluo seems to be the only reasonable one in the whole clan.”

Bai Ruozhu found it amusing, ”Don’t let Xiaoyuan hear that, or he’ll get jealous.”

”Oh, as if he’s like Lord Jiang?” Fo Lanying grinned mischievously.

Gao Zhou’s mouth twitched. This girl was getting bolder, joking about his son in front of him, showing no fear of him at all.

The three of them went down the tree house, where Astrologer and Luan Xin were waiting. The five of them walked to the place where the Golden Wings Clan members were gathered.

”They have arrived; it must be them. Otherwise, nothing ever happens, so why did something happen as soon as they got here?” someone said quietly, intimidated by Bai Ruozhu and the others.

”But the killer took the records. What could they want with them?” someone else questioned.

”Perhaps they wanted to find someone, and the great elder found out, so they silenced him.”

Heluo coughed twice, ”Everyone, don’t jump to conclusions. Once the great elder wakes up, everything will become clear.”

People looked at the nearby room where a doctor was treating the unconscious great elder.

Bai Ruozhu stepped forward and saluted, ”Heluo Clan Leader, I remember the great elder said he would check the records of those who left the island over the past decade. I want to ask, is he the only one in your clan who can access them?”

”Not exactly, but the great elder has been responsible for recording and maintaining the records over the years. Both I and the other elders can access them, but the records are missing now. Also, it’s been twelve or thirteen years, and no one can remember clearly.” Heluo sighed, increasingly worried. There’s definitely an insider on the island, but unfortunately, the clan members tend to be xenophobic and direct their suspicions at Bai Ruozhu and her group.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”So the killer stole the records, and you can’t find the records now. But why attack the great elder? There are only two possible reasons: either the great elder discovered the killer, or the great elder saw the records and had to be silenced.”

This caused an uproar, and someone curiously asked, ”Why check the records of people who left the island twelve or thirteen years ago?”

Heluo sighed, ”I didn’t want everyone to worry too much, but things have come to this point, and I can no longer hide it.”

The crowd fell silent, and everyone looked at Heluo, waiting for him to continue.

”The Fertility Tree started showing yellow leaves and withering ten years ago. We once wondered if we had made a mistake and angered the Heavens, but Madam Bai discovered that there were poisonous insects hidden deep in the root system beneath the Fertility Tree, which were absorbing its essence and causing its withering. I’ll explain the details later, but after analyzing, we believed it was possible that someone left the island twelve or thirteen years ago and was tricked into unknowingly bringing back the poisonous insects. Now, it seems likely it was not unintentional.” Heluo said.
