Chapter 2683: Chapter 2684: Feathered Hidden Weapons

Bai Ruozhu had keen hearing, and she overheard the Birdmen’s discussions. She said to Fo Lanying, ”Their Saintess definitely has issues. That guy named Wen Xuan was also set up by the Saintess.”

”Could it be that the Saintess is an insider and she’s tampering with the Fertility Tree?” Fo Lanying lowered her voice, but her face was excited, clearly enjoying the drama without fearing any trouble.

”Let’s wait until Xiaomao returns.” Bai Ruozhu couldn’t communicate with Furball, but she could sense that Furball was not in danger.

As they were speaking, a white light flashed and Furball flew back.

”You said the Poisonous Insects are nested deep underground beneath the Island? How deep?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Fo Lanying watched curiously from the side; despite her high Divine Sense, she couldn’t hear what Furball was saying.

Bai Ruozhu frowned deeply and turned to Fo Lanying, ”Let’s go find my father and the others.”

The two went to find others, and Bai Ruozhu explained what Furball had discovered.

”Just now, Furball couldn’t contact me for a long time. I suspected it went too far away. Unexpectedly, it was these Poisonous Insects discovered extremely deep underground, about a hundred meters deep,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”No wonder the Golden Wings Clan’s Barrier could only warn of danger but couldn’t detect any issue. But how could the Poisonous Insects get that deep? Even if they burrowed down, wouldn’t they be discovered earlier?” the Astrologer asked.

”It’s a type of Poisonous Insect parasitic on Earthworms, granting the Earthworms extremely strong vitality. Moreover, they initially don’t hatch, making them hard to detect,” Bai Ruozhu explained. ”The Earthworms continuously burrow down without harming the Fertility Tree’s roots, so they can’t be detected at first. But to reach over a hundred meters, they must burrow for a long time. Ordinarily, Earthworms couldn’t survive that long, but it’s different when parasitized by Poisonous Insects.”

”When the Earthworm reaches the right position, the Poisonous Insect devours its body and then hatches, setting up home at the bottom. From there, it survives by consuming the Fertility Tree’s essence, causing the Fertility Tree to slowly wither.”

Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”Fortunately, the Golden Wings Clan’s Fertility Tree has grown for many years with such deep roots; otherwise, those Poisonous Insects would have been discovered sooner.”

Luan Xin listened and frowned, ”Let’s inform Heluo, hopefully, we can help them.”

Fo Lanying was displeased at this, ”Why should we tell them? Don’t forget how they just treated you.”

Luan Xin smiled wryly, ”It’s fine. As monks, we hold compassion and won’t take it to heart.”

Bai Ruozhu tugged at Fo Lanying, indicating she shouldn’t say more. Reluctantly, Fo Lanying said, ”Alright, alright, do as you please.”

”The current problem is that even Furball doesn’t know how to deal with those Poisonous Insects. Even if it went down to investigate, it’s not a burrowing Poisonous Insect, and it can’t reach those depths or even determine their exact location. We can’t prove my findings; I’m afraid the others won’t believe us and might cause more trouble,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”We’ve done our part by informing them; they’ll have to come up with a solution,” Luan Xin said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”That’s all we can do. In the meantime, we need to be cautious of that Saintess, Tian Ning; she seems suspicious.”

Everyone nodded, agreeing that caution was wise.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, followed by Lingyu’s voice: ”Heluo Clan Leader is hosting a banquet to welcome you all; it will be held in half an hour on the lawn outside the Clan Leader’s house. Please do come.”

Lingyu’s voice was somewhat cold, clearly annoyed, probably because they had injured his clansmen.

Bai Ruozhu went to open the door and asked, ”Where is the Heluo Clan Leader? I have important matters to discuss with him.”

Lingyu’s face darkened, ”You want to ask how the Clan Leader will punish them?”

”That won’t be necessary. If you feel it’s inconvenient for us to meet Heluo, then let him come see me,” Bai Ruozhu said with a stern face, because it was indeed the Golden Wings Clan who was at fault earlier. What was Lingyu being arrogant about?

”You...”

”What do you mean ’you’? You Golden Wings Clan people always look at others with your noses in the air. If you’re not happy, come and fight. Losing a fight and still being arrogant, just because you can fly?” Fo Lanying called out fiercely.

Lingyu got even angrier, ”You’re a woman; I won’t argue with you.”

This made Bai Ruozhu unhappy as well, ”What’s wrong with being a woman? You might not even be able to beat Lan Ying. Want to spar a bit? Don’t worry, I won’t tell the Clan Leader.”

Lingyu initially feared punishment from the Clan Leader if he fought, but now he felt relieved.

”Fine, let’s spar, just don’t whine afterward,” Lingyu said.

Fo Lanying couldn’t help but laugh, ”Who’ll be whining, we’ll see. Enough talk, let’s start.”

With that, she jumped down from the Tree House, stood on the grass below, and released three Mechanical Puppets.

”You’re a Mechanist?” Lingyu flew down to ask.

”I’m also from the Jiuli,” Fo Lanying said proudly.

”Hmph, then let me see what the Jiuli can do today,” he said as he moved.

Fo Lanying quickly dodged, sneering, ”Trying to grab someone into the sky again? That move might work once, but everyone knows to guard against it after that.”

In the midst of speaking, her Mechanical Puppets flew from behind, targeting Lingyu’s wings.

Lingyu deftly changed direction with a flap of his wings, dodging the attack. He quickly abandoned the pursuit of the Mechanical Puppets and launched directly at Fo Lanying.

Fo Lanying smirked, ”Do you really think us Jiuli Mechanists only have Mechanical Puppets?”

As she spoke, she stepped quickly with her Step Method, dodged Lingyu’s attack, and lashed out with a whip.

Lingyu hurriedly dodged, and although he wasn’t hit, the whip’s gust of wind knocked a feather from him.

Watching the feather drift away in the wind, a gleam of amusement deepened at the corner of Fo Lanying’s mouth.

Having realized Fo Lanying’s prowess, Lingyu was wary and avoided attacking rashly. He continued to fly in the sky, occasionally diving down for a surprise assault. Besides the flying Puppets, Fo Lanying’s other Puppets couldn’t reach him in the sky, and the whip’s length was limited, so she could only watch from below.

”These Golden Wings Clan members always take to the skies; fighting them is really dull,” Gao Zhou said dismissively.

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”He might be avoiding his opponent’s attacks, but he can’t attack the opponent either. Dragging things out this way is just buying time.”

”With skills like that, what’s he got to be so arrogant about?” Gao Zhou scoffed.

Suddenly, Lingyu swooped down. At first, it seemed like he was going to ambush Fo Lanying again, but then his body changed direction mid-air. Three golden feathers shot from his wings, aiming straight for Fo Lanying’s vital areas!

Well now, it turns out his attack wasn’t just those methods; he had hidden weapons too.

Fo Lanying didn’t expect Lingyu to have such tricks up his sleeve. She quickly backflipped to dodge one feather, then rolled on the ground to avoid the next two.

The suddenness of the situation made her dodge a bit clumsily, but she wasn’t under much threat.

With an agile leap, she stood up, grinning, ”Not bad, let’s see how many feathers you have to use as hidden weapons.”
