Chapter 2692: Chapter 2693: Master-Servant Relationship

”Did you know that the Jiuli Clan came from another place?” Heluo suddenly asked.

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback; even the Golden Wings Clan knew this!

Heluo smiled, ”You don’t need to be nervous, because the Golden Wings Clan did the same.”

Bai Ruozhu was even more surprised, ”I’ve met people from over there, why did you come over?”

Heluo’s face still carried a smile, but it was somewhat forlorn.

”I don’t know why the Jiuli Clan came here. The merfolk rumor they’re exiled criminals, but we don’t believe it. Many years ago, the Golden Wings Clan was nearly exterminated there; it was the Jiuli Clan who saved our few remaining clansmen, helped them settle here, and even this Fertility Tree was planted with their help.”

Heluo began to explain, ”Actually, the Merfolk Clan wasn’t originally here either. They were servants of the Jiuli Clan, who allowed them to live in the deep sea, granting them freedom. Yet, they were greedy, wanting to become human, even attempting to control us under the guise of gratitude, which is why there’s a grudge between the Golden Wings Clan and the Jiuli Clan.”

”It was the Jiuli who helped us back then, but they wouldn’t let us repay them. So what right do the merfolk have to demand repayment for favors?”

Bai Ruozhu quickly sifted through the thoughts, finally understanding why the clan leader gave her the Golden Feather, saying it would be helpful at Merfolk Island. Because the merfolk are servants of the Jiuli Clan, they would have to show some respect upon seeing the Golden Feather.

Perhaps the Jiuli unintentionally saved the Golden Wings Clan and didn’t desire repayment, not even recording the event. Now, maybe nobody in the Jiuli Clan knows this past.

”That’s why I said if you want to be our clan leader, I’ll yield the position to you,” Heluo said.

Bai Ruozhu hastily waved her hand, ”I’m not interested in becoming your clan leader. Since the merfolk are servants of the Jiuli Clan, why not directly tell me their location?”

”Both our clans have been reclusive, even though there’s a grudge, we fear each other might reveal our location. So after the merfolk moved out from the seabed, we signed an agreement with them,” Heluo said, shaking his head, ”It’s said they deceived a dragon to get human legs, but they couldn’t live past thirty years.”

”I’ve encountered that dragon; the merfolk are indeed despicable,” Bai Ruozhu thought of the white dragon’s pain and felt disdain for the merfolk clan, who used feelings to deceive.

”Although I can’t tell you their location, you can keep heading east. Once you show them the Golden Feather, they’ll have to come meet you,” Heluo said.

Bai Ruozhu was somewhat puzzled, ”Would they still care about master-servant relations? Such selfish and insidious people, would they?”

”You’re quite perceptive. Xuan You is much older than you but far off,” Heluo sighed a little, then continued, ”They indeed wouldn’t care about clan master-servant relations, but to lift the curse, they wouldn’t miss any chance. In their eyes, the Jiuli Clan is omnipotent; how could they give up?”

”However, they’re quite cunning, so be very careful,” Heluo added.

Bai Ruozhu bowed, ”Thank you, for helping me. I’ll give you some clues: go to Zhongyuan, find an Elder Shougu in the Southern Border; he might know a way.”

She remembered the Elder Shougu had those powerful Poisonous Insects that could burrow into the ground. When it came to handling Poisonous Insects, he was the real expert, while she was an amateur.

”Elder Shougu? I’ll remember that!” Heluo said gratefully.

”But remember, he’s low-key, so do keep a low profile and hide your identity.” Bai Ruozhu reminded with concern.

”Alright, I’ll personally lead the people there,” Heluo said.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly found it amusing, ”Then Heluo Clan Leader could take this chance to see the world outside, maybe even find a soulmate.”

Heluo’s face turned beet red, ”Thank you, Mrs. Bai, for your kind words. I have some clan matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave.”

After speaking, he dashed away as if fleeing; he clearly knew Bai Ruozhu was teasing him for still being single at over thirty.

Bai Ruozhu chuckled as she returned to her place, saying to the others, ”Let’s head out tomorrow.”

Everyone agreed, except Luan Xin, who remained silent while feeling a bit reluctant. Bai Ruozhu pretended not to notice; no matter how reluctant he was, he was no longer of the Golden Wings Clan, and this wasn’t his home anymore.

In the evening, Xuan You suddenly came to visit.

”Mrs. Bai, I’ve come to apologize,” Xuan You said, hanging her head, her voice as soft as a mosquito’s buzz.

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”It’s nothing, you were just being used.”

Xuan You blushed, raised her hand, and gently hit her head, lamenting, ”How could I be so foolish, not seeing through it at all? Fortunately, you came, and the truth was revealed. Had my brother truly married her, then...”

She sighed heavily, ”I used to always help her, endlessly persuading my brother to marry her. Now, thinking about it feels humiliating.”

Fo Lanying chuckled aside, ”This world is never short of cunning women. There are only a few women here, but in places with more women, it’s even more troublesome.”

”Is it the same on your side?” Xuan You asked curiously.

Fo Lanying’s mouth twitched, ”In the Jiuli Clan, a group of young women is also full of scheming. But after some upheaval, everyone matured and no longer wasted time on petty squabbles.”

”It’s because we haven’t ventured out that much; our outlook is too small. However, my brother is going to Zhongyuan, and he’s promised to take me along. Maybe we’ll meet again in the future.” She laughed sincerely.

Bai Ruozhu began to like this young woman, who was clear-cut in her feelings, bold in admitting mistakes, and her open personality quickly made people overlook her foolish past behavior.

She tossed a few bottles of medicine to Xuan You, ”It’s dangerous outside; take these for protection. The red is for blood replenishment, and the green is for detoxification.”

”Thank you so much, Mrs. Bai!” Xuan You’s eyes suddenly reddened, bursting into tears.

This startled Bai Ruozhu and Fo Lanying, who hurried to comfort her endlessly while Xuan You cried and said, ”My mother passed away early, and if she were alive, she would be as kind and benevolent as you.”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched; was she as old as Xuan You’s mother? Well, she took back what she said about Xuan You being straightforward and adorable.

Fo Lanying held back laughter as her face turned red, ”Do you want to recognize Ruozhu as your godmother then?”

Xuan You finally regained her senses, shaking her head vigorously, ”I misspoke, she looks younger than me. I just feel she’s particularly steady, giving a sense of reliability.”

The girl finally seemed smarter; Bai Ruozhu nodded in relief, ”We’ll be leaving tomorrow morning. From now on, when you encounter problems, think carefully. Your brother also has it tough, so help him a lot.”

Xuan You sighed again, ”It’s a pity you’re married, otherwise having you as my sister-in-law would be wonderful.”
