Chapter 2695: Chapter 2696: Setting Foot on Merfolk Island

”One or two of you fell off the bed, your martial arts were practiced for nothing,” Fo Lanying muttered.

Bai Ruozhu’s face flushed red to her neck, and she hurriedly found an excuse to leave; if the conversation went on, she would be too embarrassed to stay.

She had been away from the boat for several days, and upon returning, she first checked Shanhu’s pulse. Shanhu’s pregnancy was stable, putting Bai Ruozhu’s mind at ease.

”Ruozhu, were the Merfolk really the servants of the Jiuli Clan before?” Shanhu suddenly asked.

”Probably, I don’t think the Golden Wings Clan would lie to me,” Bai Ruozhu answered.

Shanhu responded with an ”oh,” appearing somewhat absent-minded, while Bai Ruozhu watched her quietly without pressing further or pushing her.

”I heard that Merfolk are very cunning. What if they acknowledge you only to harm you later?” Shanhu bit her lip and asked.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at her, ”You know something, don’t you?”

Shanhu quickly shook her head, her movements betraying a sense of guilt.

”I don’t know; I’m just a little worried,” she laughed dryly, ”Maybe being pregnant makes me prone to overthinking.”

”Have a good rest and don’t think too much,” Bai Ruozhu didn’t press further and left the room to find Qiu Zhi.

She stared at Qiu Zhi and asked, ”Has Shanhu mentioned anything to you? I feel she has some connection with the Merfolk, but she’s definitely not one of them.”

Qiu Zhi was a bit nervous, but he told the truth, ”Master, don’t blame her. She took an oath and was placed under a restriction; if she says something she shouldn’t, her body will slowly decay.”

”That’s why I didn’t press her. Given the situation, I won’t ask more. Anyway, we’ll reach the Merfolk Island soon. If she’s not comfortable, let her stay in the ship cabin when the time comes. You stay on the boat to look after her,” Bai Ruozhu said.

This made Qiu Zhi feel somewhat guilty, ”Master, I should be protecting you.”

”You’re different from Jianqi; you’re going to be a father and must take responsibility,” Bai Ruozhu said, then turned and left.

Afterward, she checked on Old Ding, as well as Sibao and Asheng. Sibao and Asheng were now playing together and studying with Sa Tian, becoming quite diligent.

Old Ding’s health improved considerably, but he was fundamentally injured, so living another ten years would be fortunate.

The journey afterward went smoothly without encountering any spies causing trouble. About seven or eight days passed when the Astrologer suddenly said, ”There seems to be a barrier nearby; my magical treasure senses fluctuations.”

He brought out the Star Plate, which emitted signals.

Bai Ruozhu was delighted; it must be the Merfolk Island.

She took out the Golden Feather, raised it above her head, and shouted loudly, ”Bai Ruozhu of the Jiuli Clan seeks to visit the Merfolk Island, with the Golden Feather as proof!”

Her voice, empowered by inner strength, traveled far across the sea.

Yizi, fearing she would tire herself, quickly arranged a small voice transmission array to extend her voice further.

”Bai Ruozhu of the Jiuli Clan seeks to visit the Merfolk Island, with the Golden Feather as proof! Bai Ruozhu of the Jiuli Clan seeks to visit the Merfolk Island, with the Golden Feather as proof!” she repeated, but the sea remained unchanged.

Did they guess wrong?

Jiang Yichun narrowed his eyes, whispering, ”They might be deliberating, or maybe playing hard to get.”

Bai Ruozhu snorted coldly, ”Did the Merfolk forget their status and dare not meet the Jiuli people?”

Shortly after her words fell, the sea stirred, and a giant whale slowly swam up. Being so huge, it churned the surrounding waters, causing the boat to shake slightly.

On the whale’s back stood a man, appearing about twenty-five or six years old, with exceptionally handsome looks, marked only by an overly arrogant gaze that undermined his aura.

”I am Wenyu, Left Guardian of the Merfolk Clan, to welcome the Jiuli envoy to visit the island,” he said loudly, his voice incredibly clear, a good voice indeed.

Everyone on the boat was stunned; this was the legendary Merfolk, indeed handsome and enchanting.

”Great, I want to bring a few friends along to the island,” Bai Ruozhu said, slightly lifting her chin. As the host, facing her Merfolk who were servants of the Jiuli Clan, she naturally couldn’t be outdone. Otherwise, being polite would only make them press harder.

”Apart from Jiuli people, others are not allowed on the island,” Wenyu said, suddenly spotting Jiang Yichun, ”Hmm, is he a Merfolk too?”

Before Bai Ruozhu could speak, Jiang Yichun quickly said, ”Isn’t it normal for Jiuli people to have Merfolk around? I’m her servant.”

Bai Ruozhu twitched the corner of her mouth; her man really knew how to make her proud, but she dared not treat him as a servant, lest a disagreement makes her hands ache.

Duannian emerged from the ship cabin, ”I am also the master’s servant.”

Wenyu seemingly didn’t recognize Duannian, especially since he had clipped his dorsal fin and could walk normally, so Wenyu didn’t think much.

”Alright, you may all enter together,” Wenyu said.

Bai Ruozhu gestured to Gao Zhou, Fo Lanying, Tang Feng, Jianqi, Ning Yu, and the Astrologer, saying, ”They are also my people.”

Wenyu frowned, ”Jiuli coming out with so many people?”

”After a long, arduous journey, if not bringing a few helpers, how can safety be ensured?” Bai Ruozhu raised her chin, ”Can we enter now?”

Wenyu calculated, including six servants plus the two Merfolk, totaling eight people, seemingly the standard.

”What is Bai envoy’s status in Jiuli?” Wenyu asked again.

Fo Lanying spoke up, ”Our lady is the tribal leader’s granddaughter; she recently passed the Trial Ground, earning the Purple Light, what do you say her identity is?”

Wenyu may not have understood, but his face showed more respect, ”Everyone, please come to the whale’s back. I will bring you to the island.”

”Take good care of the boat,” Bai Ruozhu instructed Qiu Zhi, then leapt onto the whale’s back, showcasing her lightness and strength, making Wenyu wary.

The whale’s back was slippery; Bai Ruozhu purposely formed a sign with one hand giving her feet a layer of magic defense, isolating her from the whale’s back.

Sure enough, Wenyu showed a surprised expression, deepening his belief in Bai Ruozhu’s ”identity.”

Others followed suit to jump onto the whale’s back, and Bai Ruozhu gave Wenyu a casual glance, ”Wenyu Guardian, can we go?”

”Alright, everyone, please stand firm.” Wenyu pressed something, opening a protective barrier, immediately sheltering everyone on the whale’s back. The whale blew water, slowly submerged, taking everyone underwater.

The whale swam forward, seemingly passing through a barrier entrance, soon resurfacing, stopping at the island edge.

Bai Ruozhu suppressed her inner surprise; this place was completely different from the outside, the sky even somewhat bluer; she truly wondered how the Merfolk achieved this.

Wenyu jumped ashore, respectfully gesturing for them to please, ”Welcome everyone to Merfolk Island.”

Bai Ruozhu and the others followed, jumping to the shore, where the Astrologer, once steady, changed his expression. He suddenly opened his mouth but hesitated for a moment before closing it again.

Bai Ruozhu observed everything, guessing the Astrologer discovered something unusual but it wasn’t convenient to speak out now.
