Chapter 1883: Chapter 1873: Snake’s Habits

Jiang Yichun and Bai Ruozhu exchanged a glance, just about to speak when Chenfeng hastily said, ”I will go tidy up so as not to scare the young master.”

He turned around with a flushed face and headed back inside. Bai Ruozhu also told Nanny Zhang, ”Take Dengdeng to the front yard to play. I will arrange a few people to protect you. I need to treat Chenfeng, and it’s best if not too many people are around.”

Nanny Zhang quickly nodded and went over to hold Little Dengdeng’s hand.

”Dad, Mom, I’ll be good and not disturb you.” Little Dengdeng pouted, as if he feared that if he didn’t keep an eye on them, his dad would run away.

Bai Ruozhu patted his head and said, ”Mom knows you’re a good child, but sick people don’t like too many people around. You should understand Uncle Chenfeng, okay?”

Little Dengdeng hesitated and then nodded, looking at his dad and saying, ”Dad, don’t leave, okay?”

Jiang Yichun felt even more guilty towards the child and knelt down to hug him, saying, ”Dad won’t leave. Later, we’ll go greet guests and dine out together.”

”Yay, then I’ll go play outside.” Little Dengdeng skipped out with Nanny Zhang.

Soon, Chenfeng came out in clean clothes, although he still looked unwell, and he couldn’t quite meet the gaze of Jiang Yichun and Bai Ruozhu.

”Master, Madam, I...” He opened his mouth, his face even redder.

Bai Ruozhu scrutinized him carefully. He had a new arm sleeve on his arm, with a snake coiled inside, but the snake seemed restless, and the metallic arm sleeve was already bulging in places, indicating the snake’s strength.

”What’s wrong? Speak up. If you don’t, it may affect the subsequent treatment,” Bai Ruozhu said softly, though she still hadn’t thought of a suitable treatment method.

She could treat illnesses and inflict poison but had never encountered such a bizarre situation, unsure where to even begin.

Chenfeng gritted his teeth, blushing as he said, ”You saw earlier that I was lying on the ground. Recently, I’m often like this. I know it’s not good, but I can’t control myself, as if it’s a snake’s habit.”

Bai Ruozhu inhaled sharply. Was this an influence from the human-snake fusion, or was Chenfeng evolving towards becoming a snake, eventually transforming into a python like Lightning?

After all, humans are not true creators. Forcing the creation of such things will undoubtedly cause problems, which is why Honglian and Sangdian dare not implement it on themselves.

”Let’s check your pulse first,” said Jiang Yichun, feeling Chenfeng’s pulse first and then switching with Bai Ruozhu. Both felt that Chenfeng’s pulse was almost the same as before, with no significant changes, but what brought about those snake-like habits?

”Besides some habitual changes, do you have any other unusual reactions? Or do you feel it getting stronger?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Chenfeng shook his head, ”It seems not. I’ve kept it confined in the Iron Wall Sleeve, but this is already the third one.”

He spoke with a look of disgust, thoroughly unwilling to see that snake. If it weren’t for having no way out, he would indeed want to cut off the snake. After all, he’s human and does not want to be with such a thing!

”Don’t worry for now, we’ll think of a way. I... the Sage of Medicine knows a high person, maybe we can consult him,” Jiang Yichun almost said ”my father”.

Bai Ruozhu followed up, ”You must stay calm yourself and never be impatient. As long as you’re alive, there’s always hope.”

Chenfeng’s blush faded, and he nodded vigorously, ”Don’t worry, I was the only one who survived out of the three of us. No matter how difficult it is, I will cherish it, or else I would be letting down Lightning and Muyu.”

As he spoke, his voice was choked, and Jiang Yichun also looked up, his eyes slightly red.

Bai Ruozhu quickly changed the topic.

”I have an idea, which we can only temporarily try to see the effect. It is to use acupuncture to seal the acupoints of your entire arm, so your arm will lose sensation and cannot move. Then we’ll see how the snake reacts and whether you still exhibit those strange behaviors.”

”Okay, Madam, go ahead and try,” Chenfeng’s eyes lit up as if he saw hope.

”It will be very painful, endure it,” Bai Ruozhu said.

She took out the silver needle and quickly applied acupuncture to seal the points because she had tried acupuncture on the snake before, and Chenfeng was in torment. Although she wasn’t inserting needles into the snake this time, sealing off the entire arm connected to the snake was expected to cause significant pain.

Sure enough, Chenfeng gritted his teeth initially, sweat beads forming on his forehead, and at last, he cried out in agony.

Fortunately, Bai Ruozhu’s needlework was swift, so the pain didn’t last long.

Chenfeng panted heavily, reaching up to touch his left shoulder, ”It’s numb, and the pain is fading away.”

”The sealing won’t last for many days; let’s observe your condition for now. Keep detailed records of all your reactions daily, and have someone send them to me,” Bai Ruozhu instructed, ”If this method works, even if I can’t come personally, I’ll have someone continue sealing the acupoints for you.”

Chenfeng seemed quite averse to others. Upon hearing this, he got nervous, and Bai Ruozhu quickly explained, ”My belly is big, and I don’t know when I’ll need to give birth or recuperate, so I might ask the Sage of Medicine for help.”

Knowing that the Sage of Medicine and others were aware of Chenfeng’s situation, he appeared reassured. He didn’t want more people to know he had become a snake-man.

”Master, Madam, I wish to stay at the manor to take care of Chenfeng,” Jinglei suddenly spoke up.

He felt remorseful, having not gone to the Western Regions, escaping a disaster, yet watching his brother end up this way. How could he feel at ease?

”No!” Chenfeng directly refused, sternly saying, ”Now Master only has you left beside him. What are you doing here with me? Who will protect the Master? We’ve lost many people, all needing retraining. You must shoulder this responsibility.”

Jinglei was left speechless and after a while, patted Chenfeng’s shoulder, ”Take good care of yourself, don’t overthink. I’ll come visit when I can.”

Bai Ruozhu felt a bit uncomfortable watching them; this is the bond of brotherhood, isn’t it? Words aren’t necessary, and everyone understands each other clearly.

After reassuring Chenfeng a bit more, they finally went to find Dengdeng at the door and took the horse carriage back to the City.

On the way, Jiang Yichun was somewhat silent; even when Little Dengdeng pestered him, he only responded here and there without much to say.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at him thoughtfully, knowing he was in a bad mood. His four guards had been with him for years, like his brothers. Now, with two dead and one injured, how could he not be upset?

She took his hand, ”Everything will get better. As their master, you should not lose confidence first, or what would they do?”

Jiang Yichun nodded, appearing slightly better emotionally.

Thus, this family spent three days together, with Jiang Yichun returning to the Guest Palace for work, yet hurrying back home after finishing tasks to stay with his wife and children, and his mood steadied considerably.
