Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1858: Chapter 1858: You Reap What You Sow

No more, Bai Ruozhu was about to laugh until she fell over. It was truly rare to see such a bold young lady like Yingtong in ancient times, who could speak like this without any shyness. Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but admire her.

Yingtong finally got embarrassed by her laughter, pouted, and said, ”Aren’t you pregnant too? Doesn’t your Lord Jiang treat you in a special way?”

Bai Ruozhu touched her protruding belly and said with a smile, ”Yes, yes, let’s not talk about these things. Since you’re pregnant, you should be careful about what you eat and drink, and also be careful not to hop around and have an accident.”

She talked to Yingtong about many things a pregnant woman should be aware of, most of which Yingtong didn’t know. Bai Ruozhu looked at the people around Yingtong and felt a bit sorry for this young lady.

Considering her unmarried pregnancy and her mother becoming a discarded empress, no knowledgeable nanny was arranged for her, and those young handmaidens didn’t understand these things. So poor Bai Ruozhu ended up talking at length like an old lady.

When the journey resumed in the horse carriage, Bai Ruozhu talked a lot more and suddenly noticed her aunt’s expression seemed off, which made Bai Ruozhu realize her oversight.

She felt a bit guilty, but she could only pretend not to notice and changed the subject with an excuse.

Poor aunt’s daughter was actually fed a poisonous insect by her husband. If only the aunt could have another child...

While Bai Ruozhu was talking to Jiao Ling, she discreetly took her pulse and found that Jiao Ling’s body was damaged, making pregnancy indeed difficult for her.

This made her feel even sorrier for her aunt, and she started thinking about how she could help Jiao Ling. Perhaps suggesting Jiao Ling to frequently soak in the Spatial Hot Spring might help?

The convoy traveled for a few days and finally reached the borders of Danliang Country. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Luan An arranged to find an inn, giving everyone a chance to freshen up and rest. Bai Ruozhu still shared a room with Jiao Ling. They ordered hot water and took turns bathing, feeling much more refreshed afterward.

”I finally got rid of that Yellow Sand,” Bai Ruozhu said while drying her hair.

Jiao Ling also laughed and said, ”Yes, feels much more comfortable.”

At this moment, Jianqi suddenly knocked on the door and said in a deep voice, ”Master, Madam Gu ran out of the inn herself, should we do something about it?”

Before Bai Ruozhu could reply, Jiao Ling quickly said, ”Leave her be, let her cause trouble if she wants to. It might be good for her to suffer a bit.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled at this, assuming Jiang Yichun on the other side had also realized it and thought the same.

Instead, a maid sent by Yingtong chased after her, pleading behind Gai Yalai, ”Madam, you can’t run around recklessly, what if something happens?”

Gai Yalai gave her a fierce glare, ”You foreign girl can never speak anything nice, how could something happen to me? Besides, if my son can’t see me, he’s sure to come looking for me. Why are you making a fuss?”

”Lord Luan said no one should leave the inn. What you’re doing is really not okay,” the maid said, almost crying with urgency.

Gai Yalai suddenly stopped, turned around, and slapped the maid, ”Do you think you can point fingers at me? Let me tell you, insubordinate maids like you deserve to be sold to the brothel, never to rise again.”

The maid was so frightened she couldn’t say a word.

Unfortunately, Gai Yalai miscalculated. When night fell, Jiang Yichun neither came looking for her nor sent anyone for her.

Now she was stuck, neither able to go back nor stay out. The maid tried to persuade her once, but she felt too humiliated to return, so she yelled at the maid, ”You go back and tell Jiang Yichun that I’m too dizzy to walk. Tell him to come get me or he wants me to die out here?”

The maid had no choice but to run back as fast as she could to report back to Jiang Yichun.

Upon hearing the news, Bai Ruozhu muttered directly, ”nozuonodie, she can just continue her drama.”

Jiang Yichun didn’t send anyone to find her, because he had no one to spare. In the end, Luan arranged for two people to search, but when they reached the place the maid mentioned, Gai Yalai was nowhere in sight.

Jinshui City isn’t very big, but not that small either. Since Luan’s men weren’t active there regularly, they spent several hours searching, and only found Gai Yalai the next day.

Bai Ruozhu spent her night without a second of worry, as it wasn’t her mother-in-law, after all. Why should she worry? When she got up feeling refreshed and had breakfast, she only then heard the news about Gai Yalai.

”Ruozhu, your mother-in-law is really pitiful, ending up caught and taken to a brothel.” Yingtong rushed in like a whirlwind, starting with this line.

Bai Ruozhu gave Yingtong a side-eyed glance, annoyed by the phrase ”your mother-in-law.”

”And then?” she raised her eyebrows and asked, already having a rough idea in mind.

”Aren’t you worried? But she’s truly annoying. I also heard some things about her. Goodness, why couldn’t she stay quietly at the inn? Running around at her age, does she think the world is that peaceful now?” Yingtong rambled on.

After rambling, she lowered her voice and said mysteriously, ”I heard that the brothel madam found her too old and not pretty enough and was going to make her do some hard labor like washing clothes. But she happened to meet a rich merchant who likes that type, so last night...”

It seems Gai Yalai indeed faced that fate. Bai Ruozhu couldn’t say she was gloating, but she felt a sense of irony; this truly was a case of self-inflicted misfortune.

She couldn’t refrain from visiting, so she stood up and went out to see. Gai Yalai was sitting dumbly on the bed, as if she had lost her soul, with her collar half-open revealing some of her neck, her hair messy, and a swollen red palm print on her face, clearly having been slapped.

When she noticed Bai Ruozhu coming, she suddenly jumped up and rushed at Bai Ruozhu like a madwoman, screaming, ”It must be you who kept my son from coming to see me, otherwise why would I get caught? It must be you, yes, yes, it was you who arranged someone to kidnap me, it’s all your scheme, you vile woman!”

Bai Ruozhu was at a loss for words. Was Gai Yalai playing the domestic strife game too much and caught a victim complex? For days now she had kept her distance from Achun. Since when did she keep him away? And when did she scheme against her? Did she need to scheme against Gai Yalai given her character?

The maids on both sides hurriedly restrained her while she continued to shout and cry, scratching one of the maids in the process. In the end, Yingtong rushed over and directly pressed her sleep acupoint.

”Her shouting made everyone’s ears hurt, let her have a good sleep,” Yingtong said, clapping her hands as if she had just touched something dirty.

By the time the convoy set off, Gai Yalai was carried into the horse carriage. Many people gave her odd looks, but some also secretly looked at Jiang Yichun with an expression of fear.

Jiang Yichun maintained a stern face, revealing nothing of his thoughts, but in his heart there was no sadness, only a sense that Gai Yalai had finally met her deserved karma.

As the convoy left Jinshui City, a man in a government office uniform with a belly laughed to the aide beside him, ”At last, we’ve slapped Jiang Yichun’s face, just thinking about it makes me happy. Come on, let’s drink!”
