Chapter 1867: Chapter 1867: There’s No Kankan You Can’t Get Through

Bai Ruozhu prescribed medicine to Madam Meng, then chatted with her for quite a while before bidding farewell. However, she never mentioned Meng Jinse throughout, as she wanted to comfort Madam Meng, but suddenly bringing it up might upset her again.

Upon returning home, Bai Ruozhu had a good rest for three days, staying close with her parents and son, enjoying the peacefulness and warmth at home.

”Mom, when is dad coming back? I’ve been waiting for three days and another three days!” Little Dengdeng counted on his fingers. He can count now, but he’s most fluent counting to three, so he always remembers it as three days passing many times over.

Bai Ruozhu rubbed her son’s head and said, ”Your dad is working at the Guest Palace, he’ll be back in a few days; it’s not far from us.”

”If it’s not far, why doesn’t he come back to see me? Does he not like Dengdeng anymore?” The little guy asked with red eyes, looking extremely aggrieved.

Bai Ruozhu felt a deep ache in her heart hearing this, while Lin Pinger next to her unhappily muttered, ”What’s up with Xiaojiang? Can’t he take some time to see the child? The emperor isn’t that unreasonable, right?”

Though Lin Pinger always found her son-in-law agreeable, due to Gai Yalai’s previous appearance, Lin Pinger now found her son-in-law somewhat disagreeable.

Fortunately, Bai Ruozhu said Gai Yalai got lost on the road, which cheered Lin Pinger somewhat.

”The Palace situation is tense nowadays, so he was kept by the emperor.” Bai Ruozhu quickly made an excuse.

Little Dengdeng sulked and muttered, ”The emperor is so annoying.”

Lin Pinger quickly gave him a shushing gesture, whispering, ”You can’t say such things, kids shouldn’t speak carelessly about the emperor.”

Little Dengdeng looked perplexed, ”Who’s stopping dad from coming home? I want to find dad!”

Bai Ruozhu felt sorry for her son, realizing this dragging on wasn’t a solution, so she straightforwardly said, ”Your dad is on duty in the Palace, I’ll take you to see him from afar later, okay?”

”Okay!” Little Dengdeng happily shouted, the little one jumped high; he really missed dad.

When leaving the main house, Bai Ruozhu secretly asked Jianqi to send a message to Jiang Yichun at the Guest Palace, saying she would bring Dengdeng to see him, and let him pretend to be on duty, while she and Dengdeng only looked from afar.

Once she brought Dengdeng into the Palace, Jiang Yichun was already prepared, wearing his uniform of the Gold Tiger Guard, pretending to be on duty at the emperor’s bedchamber.

”Dad, it’s dad!” Little Dengdeng, seeing his dad in such majestic form, got extremely excited, almost jumping up.

Bai Ruozhu was afraid he’d rush over, tightly holding his little hand, saying, ”This is the Imperial Palace, you can’t run around, let’s just wave to your dad. Otherwise, if he takes a break while on duty, he’ll be penalized.”

Dengdeng was a good kid and immediately nodded hard, ”Mom, I understand.”

He stretched his little arms, vigorously waving towards Jiang Yichun in the distance, fearing his dad wouldn’t see. On the other side, Jiang Yichun could indeed barely see clearly, but it was tear-filled eyes that blurred his vision.

His woman, his child were there waiting for him, and he could only look on from afar.

Gao Zhou came out from behind, saying with a stern face, ”The child has come to see you, don’t keep up that dead face. It’s not an unsolvable problem, merely a matter of time. You should buck up, don’t always make it so Bai Ruozhu and the child worry and fret over you.”

Jiang Yichun’s heart shook. Indeed, he suffered, but Bai Ruozhu and the child suffered just as much; he must perk up to make their lives easier.

Thinking of this, he forced a smile on his face, waving to the two in the distance, just like he used to. Though now even the act of smiling was stiff, fortunately, from a distance they couldn’t notice the unnaturalness.

”Mom, look, dad’s smiling at us! He waved to me!” Little Dengdeng shouted excitedly, then he quickly realized he was in the Palace and rushed to cover his mouth with his little hand, then giggled and made a shushing motion, looking just like a little mouse.

Seeing her son’s cute expression, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but smile too, feeling much better. She smiled and waved at Achun in the distance.

At least he is still alive, other problems can be solved bit by bit, can’t they? No obstacle too insurmountable, she must stay optimistic and wait for him to return with the child!

The family of three thus looked from afar for quite a while, making Gao Zhou stare with wide eyes, cursing in silence that Bai Ruozhu and Dengdeng didn’t even glance at him; wasn’t he also Grandpa?

He realized he didn’t have to avoid them, so he could just go over to the two. With that thought, he smugly glanced at Jiang Yichun and directly walked towards Bai Ruozhu and Little Dengdeng.

”Ruozhu, you’re here.” Gao Zhou greeted with a smile, Bai Ruozhu tilted her body, bypassing him to continue watching Jiang Yichun from afar.

Gao Zhou pursed his lips; indeed, a daughter-in-law is not as reliable as a daughter.

He then squatted down with a smile to look at Little Dengdeng, saying, ”Little Dengdeng, how about Grandpa takes you to play?”

Little Dengdeng recognized Gao Zhou’s face, but not Gao Zhou now dressed like the Medicine Saint, so he impatiently glanced at Gao Zhou and said, ”Old man, I don’t know you, how can I play with you? My mom said not to be lured away by strangers.”

Gao Zhou’s mouth twitched; he wished he could embrace his little grandson right now, but unfortunately, in his grandson’s eyes, he was just a ”stranger.”

Suffering a thousand points of damage, Gao Zhou looked to Bai Ruozhu for help, hoping she would explain to the child. But Bai Ruozhu was completely oblivious to their conversation, watching Jiang Yichun like a Wangfu Stone, deeply enthralled as they exchanged loving glances.

Gao Zhou heavily sighed; was it easy for him? Having finally reconciled with his son, wanting to hug his grandson, yet still this!

”Old man, why do you keep looking at my mom? Dad said other men aren’t allowed to look at mom!” Little Dengdeng fiercely glared at him.

Gao Zhou nearly lost his balance; his beard bristled with anger, ”I am your mom’s godfather, you understand? I’m your Grandpa!”

”Mom never said so.” Little Dengdeng crossed his arms, full of disbelief, as if Gao Zhou was the kind of person who tricks children.

”Bai Ruozhu! You tell your son yourself!” Gao Zhou roared, the sound hurting Bai Ruozhu’s eardrum. Only then did she return to her senses and tell Dengdeng, ”He’s mom’s godfather, you should call him Grandpa. He doesn’t look as much like a bad person as he seems, he even saved your dad’s life.”

”What do you mean doesn’t look as much like a bad person as he seems? Where do I look like a bad person?” Gao Zhou jumped up, eye agog with fury, while Little Dengdeng quickly hid behind his mom, sticking his head out to say, ”You’re as fierce as a bad guy!”
