Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1866: Chapter 1866: Missing Mother and Father

”The Meng Family is known for their chastity and loyalty, I did not expect that girl to have such courage, truly admirable,” Tang Yin sighed.

Not just him, even Bai Ruozhu hadn’t expected Meng Jinse to endure until the night of her wedding to make an assassination attempt. She had thought Meng Jinse would commit suicide, never imagining this outcome.

But Meng Jinse didn’t know that King Rui was actually Chiyou, that mysterious and powerful man. How could Meng Jinse possibly harm him?

”As long as she’s alive, there’s hope. Please, Your Majesty, rescue Jinse when you march into the Capital City!” Bai Ruozhu suddenly knelt on one knee, solemnly bowing.

”Stand up!” Tang Yin commanded, thinking how difficult it must be for a heavily pregnant woman to kneel down, and one might think of him as a tyrant.

Bai Ruozhu was helped up by Yingtong, ”Please, Your Majesty, save Jinse, spare her life.”

Her voice trembled as she spoke, knowing Meng Jinse’s future bleak. The entire world knew she had married the new emperor and become empress. If Tang Yin succeeded in reclaiming the throne, Meng Jinse might find it hard to regain her footing. If Tang Yin failed, Meng Jinse would spend the rest of her life tortured by King Rui, until the King spared her life through death.

But Bai Ruozhu was not one to give up easily; as long as she could rescue Meng Jinse, she could assume another identity and start anew. As long as she stayed far away from the Capital City, she could still find happiness like that of an ordinary woman, marry, and have children.

As long as she’s alive!

Bai Ruozhu was not originally interested in vying for power, but she detested King Rui’s sinister treachery and was also considering her family’s future. Yet at this moment, she willingly wanted to fight back to the Capital City because a wonderful woman there was waiting for her rescue.

”Stop worrying; I will find a way to save her,” Tang Yin frowned and said.

Bai Ruozhu thanked him and thought of Old Madam Meng, wondering if she had heard the news and become ill. She needed to visit Old Madam Meng quickly.

Tang Yin’s following words barely reached her ears. Fortunately, he noticed their travel fatigue and dismissed them early; Yingtong and Chu Hai stayed in the palace, with Lv returning to serve the emperor. Others accompanied Bai Ruozhu back to the Bai Residence.

As she left, Bai Ruozhu reluctantly looked at Jiang Yichun, who reached out as if to take her hand, yet could only watch from a distance, unable to touch her.

The two of them looked at each other, sorrow in their eyes, as Bai Ruozhu left the Main Hall, constantly glancing back, nearly on the verge of tears.

Tang Yin coughed lightly and sighed, ”It was my oversight; I shouldn’t have sent you to rescue the Western Regions princesses, getting you into such a trap. Seeing you two like this today, I feel like a villain tearing apart a couple.”

Jiang Yichun’s face turned even colder, his voice dark, ”We’re not separated; we’re still together.”

Tang Yin touched his nose, somewhat embarrassed, ”Yes, you’ve always been together.”

...

The Bai Family had already received the news, Bai Yihong and Lin Ping’er eagerly waited at the door, their necks craning in anticipation.

As soon as Bai Ruozhu stepped out of the horse carriage, they rushed up to her, each holding one of her arms tightly, looking her over from head to toe, breathing a sigh of relief finding her well.

”Mother!” Little Dengdeng rushed over but abruptly stopped, carefully hugging his mother’s leg.

”Mother, your belly is so big, the brother and sister inside have turned into large watermelons!” Little Dengdeng giggled, then pouted, ”Mother, I missed you so much, and Father too!”

Bai Ruozhu affectionately hugged her son, touching his head, ”Mother’s back now. Your father is on duty in the palace and will be back in a few days.”

Little Dengdeng vigorously rubbed his eyes, ”Hmm, I won’t cry, so my siblings won’t laugh at me.”

Everyone laughed at Little Dengdeng’s words, as Lin Ping’er hurriedly invited everyone inside to the room, where they all chatted in the Main Hall.

Fortunately, Bai Ruozhu had already instructed everyone on the road not to mention their perilous encounters, merely saying they stopped briefly to meet Jiang Yichun and treat his injuries, causing a delay.

Lin Ping’er gratefully thanked Jiao Ling, mentioning how much help she had provided along the way, even presenting her with a handmade silk inner garment as a token of appreciation.

Jiao Ling was touched, smiling, ”I always thought I had no siblings, with my mother confined for years. This is the first time a family member made clothes for me; thank you, sister-in-law.”

”No thanks needed, we are family. I’ll make more for you in the future!” Lin Ping’er said, her eyes reddening as she spoke.

”Don’t overextend yourself, focus on your pregnancy. Isn’t there staff for such tasks?” Jiao Ling looked at her belly, hurriedly urging her to stop.

Lin Ping’er chatted with Jiao Ling for a while, then called Bai Zebo over for inquiries. Bai Zebo hadn’t succeeded in his business venture. His face flushed under Lin Ping’er questions, at a loss for how to respond.

”Mother, Zebo learned a lot and grew up on this trip. He even wants to marry!” Bai Ruozhu quickly moved in to redirect Lin Ping’er’s attention.

Sure enough, Lin Ping’er’s eyes brightened, grabbing Bai Zebo’s hand, ”Is there a girl you fancy? What’s she like? Is she from Beiyu City?”

Bai Zebo’s face turned red, stammering, ”Auntie, there’s no rush; we can discuss this later, maybe another time.”

Lin Ping’er laughed, poking his head, ”You’re not young anymore; what’s there to be shy about?”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh, pulling her mother’s hand, ”Mother, don’t tease Zebo anymore; he’ll tell you himself later.”

The more Lin Ping’er heard, the more she suspected Bai Zebo had a girl he liked, her curiosity piqued. But since her daughter wouldn’t elaborate, she planned to secretly find out more later.

After a meal, everyone returned to their rooms to freshen up and rest. Bai Ruozhu, after a good nap, said she would visit the Meng Residence.

Upon arrival and inquiry at the Meng Residence, she learned that indeed, the old lady’s health had ailed recently. The housekeeper received her and led her to Old Madam Meng’s yard.

”Grandmother, I’m back,” Bai Ruozhu entered and saluted Old Madam Meng. Although the old lady was not bedridden, she looked unwell and feeble.

”No need for formalities; your belly is so big, carrying twins is not easy. Come and sit down quickly.” Old Madam Meng smiled, but it wasn’t as bright as before, with a shadow of worry in her eyes.

Bai Ruozhu sat down beside her, taking her hand, ”Let me check your pulse.”

After checking her pulse, Bai Ruozhu was startled to find Old Madam Meng’s health had suddenly deteriorated, with heart issues evident.
