Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1877: Chapter 1867: Compensation with a Finger

It’s a pity that Mo Beishan had thought it through, but didn’t have the chance to remind him. Old Master Huang finished eating and suddenly stood up, saying, ”Alright, let’s go to the Bai Residence.”

Mo Beishan opened his mouth, wanting to persuade Huang Da to rest before speaking, but found no suitable reason and had to close his mouth.

He could only follow along, thinking it might be good to play the peacemaker at the crucial moment.

When Bai Ruozhu heard the servant report that Old Master Huang Da from the Huang family was seeking an audience, she calmly got up and said, ”It’s about time. Notify Aunt and Uncle.”

Very soon, Jiao Ling got the message and said to Fen Jiu, ”You go first to check Huang Da’s intentions. I fear he might have ill intentions towards Ruozhu.”

Fen Jiu nodded and disappeared in the blink of an eye. When Jiao Ling reached Bai Ruozhu, Fen Jiu had already circled back.

”That Huang Da is unfathomable,” Fen Jiu shook his head, saying, ”Truly, there is always someone better. I always prided myself on my agility, but he still noticed me. We had a secret contest, and I’m not his match.”

For someone as proud as Fen Jiu to admit defeat, it was clear that Huang Da was not just slightly better.

Bai Ruozhu frowned slightly, realizing that the martial families in the Jianghu shouldn’t be underestimated.

”Ruozhu, Aunt knows we have reason on our side, and in my youth, I would never back down. But since your family has children, when danger comes, you must learn to bend and stretch. There’ll be plenty of opportunities to vent in the future.” Jiao Ling took Bai Ruozhu’s hand and advised.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”Aunt, don’t worry. I won’t stubbornly ignore the safety of myself and my family. We’ll check out the situation first, and if it really doesn’t work, I’ll yield.”

”But don’t be discouraged. It’s not because we fear them, but because we have much to care about. It doesn’t mean they have nothing to care about either. There’ll always be a chance to vent this anger.” Jiao Ling added.

”Mm.” Bai Ruozhu nodded in agreement.

The three of them headed to the front courtyard. On the way, Bai Zebo came running, with a worried face, saying, ”Sister Ruozhu, I heard the old monster from the Huang family is here to make trouble. Please don’t feud with them because of me; I’m already fine.”

Bai Ruozhu patted his shoulder, ”It’s alright. This isn’t just for you; it’s for justice.”

Bai Zebo still looked worried, murmuring, ”If I hadn’t let Muxin return the wine to Mo Beishan, none of this would have happened.”

”If you put it that way, we should also blame Mo Beishan for cozying up to you for no reason and giving you wine. Otherwise, none of this would have happened. But since it’s already happened, we can’t keep regretting and trapping ourselves.” Bai Ruozhu said seriously.

Bai Zebo nodded seriously, ”I understand. I shouldn’t always regret and lament; I should think about how to make amends and do meaningful things.”

Seeing the child understanding so quickly, Bai Ruozhu smiled with satisfaction and said, ”You better not go. If a fight really breaks out, we’ll need someone to protect you.”

Bai Zebo blushed, responded with understanding, and tactfully took his leave.

Soon, the three of them arrived at the front courtyard and saw Old Master Huang sitting in the main hall drinking tea.

He sat drinking tea, and Huang Li beside him didn’t dare to sit, and Mo Beishan also stood beside, waiting.

Mo Beishan quickly signaled Bai Ruozhu with his eyes, suggesting she not anger this old man.

Bai Ruozhu saluted, ”I don’t know what brings Old Master Huang here from afar?”

Huang Da scrutinized her carefully and said, ”I’ve heard the National Master predicted that you are someone of rising fortune and took you as a disciple. Now upon meeting you, you’re indeed extraordinary.”

Hearing this, Huang Li showed some surprise, clearly unaware of this matter.

Bai Ruozhu silently pondered, how did this old man know? Did he frequently move within the Capital?

”The Old Master flatters me. Ruozhu is just an ordinary woman, with some knowledge of medical skills,” Bai Ruozhu modestly replied.

”Since your medical skills are good, why not treat my granddaughter’s illness? You can state any reward you need.” Huang Da put down his teacup and stood up.

Jiao Ling and Fen Jiu nervously protected Bai Ruozhu, and Huang Da glanced at Fen Jiu, laughing, ”So it was you.”

This statement wasn’t because he knew Fen Jiu before, but rather that the person who had just sparred with him turned out to be Fen Jiu.

Since Fen Jiu had been caught spying, and now called out, he awkwardly coughed and pretended not to hear anything, turning his head aside.

Huang Da wasn’t angry, smiling and looking at Bai Ruozhu, ”Why doesn’t young Bai think it over?”

Bai Ruozhu didn’t rush to speak; that’s how negotiations are. If you concede too quickly, the other party will keep pressing. Even if she were to give in and detoxify Xiaomao for Huang Rou, she couldn’t back down so quickly, or else they’d take it inch by inch and even question why she refused before.

Seeing Bai Ruozhu remain calm, Huang Da smiled and nodded, ”Young Bai just wants justice. My granddaughter was reckless and hurt someone; it’s said she cut off a girl’s finger. Then she should compensate a finger.”

He spoke lightly, as if compensating for a piece of clothing or a few taels of silver.

”Old Master!” Huang Li cried out, ”Miss was just young and impulsive, isn’t it too much to ask for a finger as compensation?”

Huang Da glared at him, ”What youth? If you’re out in Jianghu, age doesn’t matter. She acts on impulse and must pay the price. Eventually, she’ll run into an iron plate. Should her family protect her every time?”

”Old Master, isn’t this a bit harsh?” Mo Beishan said, quickly signaling Bai Ruozhu, wondering if they really needed to cut off Huang Rou’s finger. Huang Rou was the Wulin Alliance Leader’s daughter!

Bai Ruozhu did not speak to stop it; this was the Huang family’s choice. She didn’t want to be hypocritical in trying to prevent it. Mistakes should come with consequences. Besides, Huang Rou was ruthless, hurting others without understanding the situation—this was her deserved retribution.

”So, young Bai? Shall I bring Huang Rou over in the morning, what do you think?” Huang Da asked, staring at Bai Ruozhu.

”Old Master is fair. Ruozhu will do her best,” Bai Ruozhu said with a fist salute.

Huang Li grew anxious upon hearing this, ”What do you mean try? If you can’t cure her, won’t it be in vain for my young mistress to suffer?”

Bai Ruozhu glanced at him coolly, ”Steward Huang, this habit of yours liking to butt in is not good. You see, neither my chief steward nor head guard has spoken a word.”

Huang Da was displeased and glared at Huang Li, ”Step back, you’re old enough to know better.”

Huang Li’s face turned red, and he obediently stepped back without another word.

”Young Bai, I shall visit again in the morning.” Huang Da cupped his hands and turned to leave.

Once they were far away, Jiao Ling frowned and asked, ”He’s so reasonable? Isn’t the Huang family extremely protective? Would he really cut off his granddaughter’s finger?”

Fen Jiu rubbed his chin, with a look of thoughtful speculation, ”Could he just be being polite, waiting for you to stop him, say there’s no need?”

Bai Ruozhu snorted, ”I don’t play games like that. If he truly expects me to intervene, he’s mistaken.”
