Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1743: Chapter 1743: Passively Awaiting Death

Everyone couldn’t help but look at Wa San, faintly sensing that the situation was very serious.

Wa San remained motionless and said gloomily, ”Blind is blind, it can’t be cured.”

Bai Ruozhu’s heart tightened, and she grabbed Wa San’s wrist, disregarding whether he opposed it or not, and began to feel his pulse.

Wa San stubbornly tried to pull his hand away, but Bai Yihong reacted quickly this time, pressing down on his shoulder and saying, ”Ruozhu is pregnant, don’t move around and hurt her.”

With that said, Wa San dared not move recklessly, his face hidden by a gauze cap, making it impossible to discern his expression at the moment.

Bai Ruozhu took a look and couldn’t help but take a deep breath. Wa San’s body was severely depleted, with internal injuries, excessive blood loss, and residual poison.

He had used the Detoxifying Pill before, but it only suppressed the poison and didn’t detoxify it symptomatically. Bai Ruozhu had made several Medicine pills, giving some to the family, and Guizhi also had some.

If it weren’t for the Detoxifying Pill, Wa San wouldn’t have made it here at all.

”Ruozhu, how is it?” Guizhi asked worriedly, her voice trembling slightly.

”The body needs proper care, and there is residual poison. I will help detoxify him,” Bai Ruozhu said, pausing for a moment, ”but I need to take a look at his eyes as well.”

Wa San turned his head evasively, and Lin Ping’er beside him covered her mouth and cried silently.

This child must have suffered too much, the injuries must be incredibly gruesome and hideous for him to not want others to see.

”If you’re going to look, don’t just stand here. Let’s send Wa San back to his room first,” Bai Yihong said, timely rounding off the situation.

Wa San’s feet remained still, but Guizhi stepped forward, grabbing his arm and crying, ”Getting the injuries treated quickly is what matters.”

Guizhi’s actions would be considered improper for an unmarried woman, but no one thought her overly bold, nor were they worried about affecting her reputation because, in the Bai Family’s eyes, Wa San was already Guizhi’s husband.

Wa San’s body trembled slightly, instinctively trying to pull away from Guizhi’s grip, but Guizhi held on tightly, and in the end, he couldn’t bear to exert much force to pull away.

Bai Ruozhu exchanged a glance with her parents, and the three of them quickened their pace to walk ahead, giving Guizhi and Wa San some space to talk.

”Don’t be like this. With Ruozhu here, she will be able to heal you. Even if it can’t be cured, isn’t there still me? I’ll take care of you for a lifetime,” Guizhi’s voice was low, laced with embarrassment but also with firmness and resolve.

Bai Ruozhu, with sharp ears, couldn’t help but smile when she heard this. This was the Guizhi she liked the most.

Kind, brave, unwavering, this was the Guizhi she had always known.

When they reached the room prepared for Wa San, Bai Ruozhu didn’t rush to say she wanted to examine Wa San’s eyes. Knowing Wa San was very resistant to this right now, she instructed the maid to serve tea and inquired about their experiences along the way.

Wa San was noticeably less talkative than before, his whole demeanor lifeless. It was mostly Guizhi who was speaking, occasionally asking him, ”Wa San, isn’t that right?”

Wa San would just give a dull ”hmm” or say ”yes,” without saying much more.

Bai Yihong and Lin Ping’er both showed worried expressions but dared not say more for fear of upsetting him.

After recounting their journey, everyone learned they encountered mountain bandits on the way. Wa San was severely injured while rescuing Guizhi and was poisoned. When they had nowhere to escape, they chose to jump off a cliff. Luckily, the heavens blessed them; branches and vines below entangled them, and they didn’t die. Wa San, however, had been protecting Guizhi, suffering significant internal injuries.

Luckily, Guizhi carried medicine Bai Ruozhu had given her before, which saved Wa San’s life.

Bai Ruozhu could imagine the danger in this situation. If men were captured by mountain bandits, they were typically taken up the mountain to become bandits themselves, with potential opportunities to escape later. But if women were caught, they might become toys for the bandit leader, or worse, tools for the bandits’ desires, faring even worse than military prostitutes.

Men have been known to hand over women to save their own lives, but Wa San fought to save Guizhi, even willing to die with her rather than let her suffer a bit.

Wa San hung his head low and suddenly muttered, ”I’m useless.”

Guizhi suddenly burst into tears, as if she had exploded, shouting at Wa San, ”Why would you say such a thing? If it weren’t for you, I would have been dead long ago. I beg you to pull yourself together, seeing you like this makes my heart hurt.”

Bai Ruozhu felt an overwhelming sense of compassion and sudden frustration as she slapped Wa San’s gauze cap, ”If you’re a man, be a bit stronger. Isn’t it just one blind eye? Even if it can’t be healed, you can still see things. A man having a wound or a scar is normal, isn’t it?”

She had guessed before that if both eyes were blind, Wa San couldn’t have moved as freely.

As she spoke, the gauze cap was knocked off, revealing Wa San’s pale face. One of his eyes was gone, a horrifying emptiness, and since the wound hadn’t been properly treated, some proliferating rotten flesh was exposed, looking like a fleshy tumor.

Bai Ruozhu silently took a deep breath. Fortunately, she was past the morning sickness phase, otherwise she might have instinctively retched. No wonder Wa San didn’t want to take off the cap.

Bai Yihong and Lin Ping’er, not being doctors, turned pale with shock, while Wa San’s face changed from fear to pain, urgently covering his left eye with his hand.

Guizhi’s expression didn’t change much, indicating she was already aware of the situation, showing only a look of pity in her eyes.

”Dad, Mom, you should go rest first. Tell Rendong to bring my Medical Box; Wa San’s eye needs surgery, and it’s not suitable for others to watch,” Bai Ruozhu said quietly to her parents.

Lin Ping’er and Bai Yihong finally came to their senses, regretting their overreaction.

”Alright, I’ll go instruct Rendong now. You take good care of Wa San, and I’ll bring some supplements later,” Lin Ping’er said hurriedly.

”Wa San, don’t overthink it, everything will be alright,” Bai Yihong said, intending to pat his shoulder but realizing his whole body was tense, he quietly withdrew his hand.

After Bai Yihong and his wife left, Wa San suddenly said, ”I don’t want treatment. Blind is blind, don’t waste time.”

Bai Ruozhu gave him a stern look, ”Are you the doctor, or am I the doctor? If you don’t treat it now, it’ll continue to rot worse, and it won’t just be blindness but you might lose your life too!”

”I’m already like this, it doesn’t matter if I die or not,” Wa San muttered.

Bai Ruozhu, exasperated, almost wanted to hit him, pointing at his nose and scolding, ”Just this little setback and you’re giving up? You don’t want to live? How will you fulfill your promise to take care of Guizhi for a lifetime? Look at her, crying for you since she walked in, can you bear to see her more worn out?”
