Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1732: Chapter 1732: Marriage Is Irrelevant to Each Other

The focus of the Capital City was all on Elder Jiang Ge’s funeral procession, especially with a large number of commoners and scholars participating voluntarily. The streets were even blocked at one point. This made King Rui’s faction more cautious, because if someone were to rally there, would the crowd turn into a torrent rushing into the Imperial Palace?

Therefore, most of the military force was deployed to monitor Elder Jiang Ge’s funeral, leaving the Grand Temple less tightly guarded.

Jiang Yichun moved like a ghost, silently and stealthily making his way into the Grand Temple, appearing before the stone pillars used for sacrifices to heaven.

He quickly took out a piece of paper from his body, which had many holes cut into it, and upon careful examination, the holes formed words. He also took out a medicine bottle, dipped a brush into it, and then pressed the paper against the stone pillar, using the brush to fill in the cut-out spaces.

Lightning was keeping watch for him. Although Lightning didn’t understand the effect of the medicine liquid, he wisely asked no questions, knowing that anything given by Madam couldn’t be wrong.

Soon, Jiang Yichun finished tracing each character, then packed up his things and swiftly left with Lightning.

Elder Jiang Ge was finally buried, but his funeral was talked about for a long time, even three years later. Some said even an Imperial Relatives’ funeral didn’t have such a grand scale.

Jiang Yichun didn’t attend the funeral, nor did he secretly visit the grave afterward. He didn’t worry about getting caught in a trap; he simply didn’t want to go.

He only felt a sense of discomfort, a feeling he couldn’t articulate. He respected Elder Jiang Ge’s actions but couldn’t forgive him for what he did to Jiang Yichun’s father.

Moreover, Jiang Yichun was more concerned about his little woman far away in Mountain Village. He had to break his promise to her, as he couldn’t return by the agreed date. He wondered how much she would worry, but he couldn’t casually send a message, as it would easily expose his whereabouts.

He was also responsible for the lives and deaths of a group of people behind him.

Three days later, Jiang Xuexiang called his eldest daughter, Jiang Zhiyi, and second daughter, Jiang Zhihe, home to inform them about leaving the Capital the next night.

Yu Chenghua was so moved that his eyes turned red. When many left the Capital City, he had a chance to leave with the Golden Guards to follow the Emperor. But he stayed, worrying about his wife and father-in-law. Yet, because of this, he always felt guilty toward the Emperor.

Now, he felt relieved. Leaving the Capital would allow him to continue serving the Emperor.

Jiang Yihong listened and showed a look of disappointment. ”So, eldest brother really is in the Capital; he really won’t attend Grandpa’s funeral.”

Jiang Xuexiang slapped him, sternly reprimanding him, ”Your elder brother is a man of great deeds. Even your Grandpa would be proud of him knowing this. You must not discuss your elder brother!”

Jiang Yihong was stunned. His father had a good temper and almost never resorted to hitting them or showing anger. This was the first time he saw his father so angry at him.

”Father, I...”

”Alright, alright, whatever needs to be said can wait for another time. Everyone, prepare yourselves and make sure not to leak any information.” Mrs. Jiang hurried to mediate.

Jiang Xuexiang recalled meeting Jiang Yichun secretly days ago, who told him he wouldn’t attend the old master’s funeral. Jiang Xuexiang was originally a bit disappointed, given the old master’s tragic death.

Later, upon hearing Jiang Yichun would go to the Grand Temple, he immediately understood and said, ”If your Grandpa knew, he would agree.”

The old master used his death to denounce King Rui’s treason, reminding the world of King Rui’s disloyalty and betrayal. How could someone who secretly plotted under the benevolent treatment of the Emperor still overturn the dynasty be a true benevolent ruler?

Jiang Xuexiang sighed quietly, unsure of how Yichun’s task went.

He laughed at himself for overthinking, knowing Yichun was a careful child and should have nothing to worry about.

”Father-in-law, could I possibly bring one more person?” Jiang Xuexiang’s eldest son-in-law approached him to ask softly.

Jiang Xuexiang was momentarily stunned, revealing a hint of displeasure.

When his eldest daughter, Jiang Zhiyi, married into the Kong Family, Kong’s father had already passed away, and Kong’s mother had also died half a year ago. The family had long since divided, so why bring another person? Could it be a concubine?

He looked toward his eldest daughter, noticing her looking this way with an extremely unpleasant expression.

”This matter concerns the lives of our entire family; bringing one more person poses more risk. Whom do you intend to bring?” Jiang Xuexiang asked.

Kong Xunwu hesitated briefly and then resolvedly said, ”My concubine, she is pregnant, so I can’t just leave her behind.”

”What?” Mrs. Jiang, hearing the conversation, suddenly rushed over and grabbed Kong Xunwu by the collar. ”You’re favoring the concubine over the wife! Your legitimate child isn’t even born, and you let the concubine become pregnant, and you have the nerve to ask us to take her too? Does she deserve it?”

Jiang Zhiyi’s face turned pale, her gaze towards Kong Xunwu was icy cold.

”Mother-in-law, I know I was wrong. We were using medicine, and I didn’t expect it to happen,” Kong Xunwu’s face reddened, and he dared not lay a hand on Mrs. Jiang, making him anxious and unsure of how to respond.

”Getting pregnant while on medication is unbelievable. Your concubine isn’t innocent either, so we won’t dare take such a risk with her!” Jiang Chenshi shouted.

Jiang Xuexiang frowned and said, ”Bringing one more person increases the risk, so she can’t come.”

Kong Xunwu hesitated for a long while and finally said, ”My mother spoke of wanting a grandchild on her deathbed; this is my first child. I don’t want to be an irresponsible father. Father-in-law, I choose to stay in the Capital.”

”Who are you threatening? If you don’t leave, my daughter won’t stay with you. With the current situation, you can expect to suffer!” Jiang Chenshi gritted her teeth and said.

”Mother, let him go. It won’t look good otherwise,” Jiang Zhiyi finally spoke.

Jiang Chenshi looked at her eldest daughter, anxiously saying, ”Zhiyi, don’t act foolishly. Your Grandpa’s death has already angered King Rui. If you don’t come with us, you’re waiting here to die!”

”Mother, I will go with you all,” Jiang Zhiyi said firmly.

Both Jiang Chenshi and Jiang Xuexiang sighed in great relief.

”However, I want a divorce!” she said, pointing toward Kong Xunwu.

”Zhiyi!” Kong Xunwu looked desolate, ”We have been married for years. Are you really abandoning our relationship? I don’t want a divorce. If I survive, I’ll come find you once the child is born.”

Jiang Zhiyi laughed coldly, ”Find me? To bring an illegitimate son or daughter for me to raise? I don’t have such magnanimity! We’ve been married for two years, with no movement in my belly. Isn’t it better to part this way, each free to marry again?”

After speaking, she instructed the maid by her side to fetch paper and brush. The maid, seeing her resolute attitude, went to bring the paper and brush.

She quickly wrote the divorce paper, signed it, and pressed her fingerprint on it, then handed it to Kong Xunwu, who was still stunned.

”If you don’t sign, then I’ll have no choice but to write a repudiation paper,” Jiang Zhiyi said, her voice turning even colder.
