Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1718: Chapter 1718: Such an air of arrogance

Lin Ping’er didn’t come forward; according to the village customs, when male guests arrive, it’s the head of the household who entertains them, so women don’t need to come forward. Yet, at this moment, Lin Ping’er’s expression was not very pleasant.

She secretly gave Bai Yihong meaningful glances and glared at him several times. Bai Yihong helped Old Li to sit in the hall and quickly went outside to find Lin Ping’er.

”What’s the matter?” Bai Yihong asked in confusion. What did he do wrong this time?

Lin Ping’er gave him a fierce look and said, ”Someone asked your daughter to look at a wound, and you just agreed. Have you thought about your daughter still nurturing her pregnancy? Previously, she worked so hard, and the baby was already a bit unstable. You just sympathize with others and don’t think about your daughter?”

”Caiyue is also a relative, and when she injured her leg the other day, wasn’t it Tian Fang who applied the medicine? Ruozhu isn’t well suited to always handle medicinal materials. She had to save Huilin before because one cannot fail to rescue someone, but is Uncle Li seriously ill? If he were seriously injured, he wouldn’t have been able to come to our house!”

Lin Ping’er continued speaking rapidly, ”If it’s just a minor injury, can’t he go to a doctor in the village? Even though our Ruozhu is a Chief Doctor, she should handle situations accordingly. Even Imperial Doctors in the Palace fall ill and can’t see patients sometimes. Besides, didn’t you hear Uncle Li’s tone? He seemed to mean that our Ruozhu’s medical skills are good and wanted her to look at him as proof, but does our Ruozhu need to prove anything to them? Just wait and see, once you open this door, more people will come to bother Ruozhu. You really don’t want your daughter to have a good life!”

Bai Yihong listened, his face turning alternately white and red, finally saying with a bitter face, ”Madam, I’m wrong, isn’t it okay to admit it? I saw he’s an elder and agreed in a hurry. But how could I not think of our daughter’s safety? I’m not someone who would disregard our child for face.”

”So what now? You’ve already agreed, and it seems he didn’t plan to pay for the consultation. We can use medicine and effort, but if everyone starts taking advantage like this, we can’t support it. Don’t forget that the family fortune has been donated to the Imperial Court, and now it’s only enough for daily expenses. We have so many people in and out of the house, and everyone needs money.” Lin Ping’er continued.

Bai Yihong rubbed his hands anxiously, ”But it won’t do to turn him away. Otherwise, how about letting Guoguo take a look?”

Lin Ping’er’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, ”I’ll go ask Ruozhu. If she agrees, we’ll let Guoguo examine him. It’ll be a good practice for the child.”

With that, she left like a gust of wind to Bai Ruozhu’s room. Bai Ruozhu understood the circumstances and immediately nodded in agreement.

”Guoguo can handle ordinary illnesses; it’s good for him to get some practice. Sending out some medicinal materials is no problem, but if anyone else comes in the future, have Guoguo write formulas for them to get the medicine themselves,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Okay, I’ll tell him that our medicinal materials have been donated to the Northwest Main Camp.” After saying this, Lin Ping’er went to find Guoguo and asked him to help Old Li with his injury.

Guoguo felt somewhat nervous, but now he was much more composed, not showing it at all on the surface.

He carried the medicine box and followed Lin Ping’er to the Main Hall, where he saw the injured elder sitting by the table drinking tea. He frowned slightly and approached, saying, ”If you’re injured, don’t drink tea. It’s better to drink warm water.”

Old Li turned his head and saw a child about seven or eight years old carrying a medicine box. He looked at Lin Ping’er and asked, ”Is this your relative’s child? How come I’ve never seen him before?”

”He’s my daughter’s disciple, who has learned Ruozhu’s true teachings. Now that Ruozhu isn’t feeling well, she asked her disciple to examine your injury,” Lin Ping’er replied with a smile.

Old Li’s face fell instantly, ”What? Asking a little kid to look at my injury, is this how you’re fooling me? Your daughter’s got quite a big head, treating important people in the Palace a lot, looking down on someone like me? Let me tell you, no matter how glamorous you get, don’t forget your roots!”

Bai Yihong quickly offered a conciliatory smile, ”My daughter truly isn’t well, she’s pregnant, and traveling before injured her body, making it inconvenient to smell the medicine. Just the other day, it was her disciple who attended to a relative’s daughter’s injury. We’re really not putting on airs. You also need to understand.”

”So what if she’s pregnant? I’ve never seen anyone be so delicate when pregnant. Is this her first child? In other families, daughters and daughters-in-law have their second child without any fuss. They just bend over, and out it comes. Why is your daughter different? You just don’t want to examine my injury!” Old Li began yelling directly.

Lin Ping’er grew angry upon hearing this too, ”What do you mean? Have you ever had children? Who told you one can give birth just by bending over? Aren’t you embarrassed to say such things at your age? Even doctors in the village can’t always go out when they’re ill, so why is it that my daughter can’t practice medicine as if she owes you something? You claim we put on airs, but aren’t you the one looking down with dog eyes? You haven’t even let Guoguo examine, so how do you know he can’t do it?”

”Yes, even in scholarship there are young scholars, and doctors aren’t necessarily old. Besides, our Ruozhu isn’t even twenty,” Bai Yihong said with a conciliatory smile. ”Why not let Guoguo examine and then decide?”

Old Li jumped up, waved his large hand, ”Never mind, letting a small child examine me might create problems instead of solving them. I’ll go find the village doctor. Today, I’ve surely seen the true face of the Bai Family’s second house. No wonder Bai Fu says you all are unfilial!”

After saying this, he swung his arm and left, leaving Lin Ping’er pointing at his back angrily, ”Look at him walking so briskly; what kind of injury could it be? Guoguo can’t tend to it? Not to mention such minor injuries, even more serious ones, Guoguo can handle them.”

Guoguo looked a bit embarrassed, carrying the medicine box, and said, ”Then I’ll go back to study first.”

After Guoguo walked away, Lin Ping’er watched his back and sighed, ”Isn’t the child hit by this? Look, isn’t it all because of what you did that he got hurt in confidence?”

Bai Yihong scratched his head, thinking he should think more next time when things happen, and not agree so casually again.

Old Li, meanwhile, was angrily heading towards the village doctor’s house, encountering familiar people on the way and cursing Bai Ruozhu, saying how she looked down on others, asking a little child to fool him, and saying how the Bai Family’s second house forgot their roots as soon as they became prosperous.

Talking all the way, he walked slowly and eventually ran into the village doctor on his rounds, meeting him halfway.

The village doctor was somewhat related to Old Li, so he went up to greet him, ”Brother, what’s going on?”

Old Li then vented a whole bunch of bad words about Bai Ruozhu, but unfortunately, the village doctor had previously received guidance from Bai Ruozhu and had long admired her medical skills, which were rumored to be taught by an Immortal in dreams, so he wouldn’t follow along with Old Li’s complaints.
