Chapter 1724: Chapter 1724: Can’t Bear It on My Conscience

In a residential house in the Capital City, Jiang Yichun stood with a cold face and hands behind his back as Lightning entered the Room and bowed to him, saying, ”Master, everything is settled, once we pick up the Old Madam, we can leave.”

The Old Madam he was referring to was Gai Yalai. Jiang Yichun wasn’t very trusting of Gai Yalai, and hadn’t contacted her initially for fear of exposing his whereabouts.

”The Ascension Ceremony for King Rui is set for March 1st.” Jiang Yichun suddenly said, causing Lightning to shiver. Was the Master planning something?

”After the ceremony, he will also go to the Grand Temple for the heavenly sacrifice.” Jiang Yichun continued, ”He now must focus on every detail, striving for perfection, so we need to make some moves in the Grand Temple.”

Lightning suddenly knelt on one knee, clasping his fists, ”Master, this must not be done, it’s too dangerous.”

Jiang Yichun seemed not to have heard Lightning’s words and continued, ”Although this is not an assassination attempt on King Rui and won’t have much effect, as long as there’s a problem with the sacrifice, it will further demonstrate that King Rui’s ascension is not legitimate, leaving doubts in people’s hearts, which will aid when the Emperor returns to the Capital City.”

Lightning knew Jiang Yichun’s character, understanding that when he spoke so much, it meant his mind was made up, he gritted his teeth and said, ”Whatever you plan, once you rescue the Old Madam, I’ll remain here to handle it.”

Jiang Yichun turned to look at Lightning, ”It’s too dangerous for you alone, and you’ll easily expose yourself. This matter requires careful plotting; you should leave for now.”

”Master!” Lightning disagreed, exclaiming.

Jiang Yichun’s face turned cold, ”You should go down and rest, gather your strength for the action.”

After Lightning left, Jiang Yichun remembered the Medicine Liquid given to him by Bai Ruozhu, calculated the days, and devised a plan in his heart.

Thanks to his wife’s Medicine Liquid, otherwise burying Gunpowder to blow up the celestial pillar is indeed too risky.

...

The next day, at the Xue Junwang’s Residence, the Junwang’s wife, Gai Yalai’s Nanny, received an item, glanced at it, and quickly walked towards the wife’s Room.

”Lady, look at this.” Nanny handed the item to Gai Yalai. It was a small, old silver lock for a child, its color tarnished.

But Gai Yalai tensed up entirely, snatched the silver lock and hid it, softly asking, ”Where did you get this, Nanny?”

”Someone delivered it outside, also sending a message saying at noon, please exit through the side door and board the horse carriage to meet the person you wish to see.” Nanny said with excitement, ”Lady, Brother Yichun hasn’t forgotten you, he’s come to rescue you!”

Gai Yalai’s face sank, ”Are you sure it’s truly him and not someone else setting a trap? I’m in a tough situation now, fortunately, I haven’t had much contact with him before, otherwise, the new Emperor would have already sent people to capture me for interrogation.”

”This is Brother Yichun’s childhood silver lock, it can’t be wrong, it’s an old story, who could find this to deceive you? If it were from the new Emperor, it would be easier to capture you directly; there’s no need for such trouble,” Nanny analyzed.

Gai Yalai didn’t speak for a long time, but she agreed with Nanny’s reasoning in her heart.

”Nanny, I cannot go, too many eyes are watching in this Residence. There may be people of the new Emperor.” Gai Yalai shook her head as she spoke, ”I can’t trust anyone else; maybe you should meet him for me?”

Nanny felt indescribable emotions but still nodded in agreement, as she treated Gai Yalai like her own daughter.

”I understand. But if Brother Yichun wishes to take you away, what should I say?” Nanny asked.

”If it’s really safe, I agree to go with him, but I want to bring Junwang’s family too; otherwise, if I escape, what will people say about me in the future?” Gai Yalai frowned and said.

Nanny worriedly said, ”Brother Yichun coming to the Capital is already very risky; rescuing you and the two young princes alone is difficult enough, it’s...” She paused, ”Junwang’s family and Brother Yichun have no connection, the new Emperor wouldn’t target them; but once the new Emperor ascends, he might think of you. Please heed my advice, being alive is all that matters; what others think doesn’t matter.”

Gai Yalai waved her hand irritably, ”We’ll discuss it later. You go prepare, meet Brother Yichun and see what he has to say.”

Nanny sighed slightly, exiting the Room.

Gai Yalai didn’t feel that Jiang Yichun’s visit was out of filial duty; rather, she felt her situation was due to Jiang Yichun’s actions; who let him be a close minister to the Emperor, and who let the Emperor be driven away?

At noon, Nanny donned a veil cap, exited through the side door, boarded a horse carriage, and gradually distanced herself from the Xue Residence.

Her heart was indeed fearful; as the Lady said, it might be a trap or the new Emperor’s people might discover them. Until she saw the emaciated Jiang Yichun, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

But then she felt distressed, ”Young Master, how did you become so thin? You must take care of yourself!”

Jiang Yichun glanced at the horse carriage behind Nanny, seeing it was already empty, he couldn’t help but show disappointment.

Nanny felt even worse, eagerly comforting, ”Young Master, don’t look anymore. The Residence is strictly monitored, the Lady was unable to come for fear of exposing your whereabouts.”

She said this to prevent Jiang Yichun’s disappointment.

”I risked coming to rescue her out of the Capital; if she doesn’t even dare show her face, then she won’t be coming with me.” Jiang Yichun said angrily.

”Young Master, don’t! Once the new Emperor ascends, he might consider the Lady, fearing then she would be ’afflicted with an incurable illness’...” Nanny said, unable to hold back her tears.

After all, Nanny was the one who took care of him during childhood, Jiang Yichun couldn’t bear it, his expression softened, ”Then please tell her that we’ll depart three days later at the hour of the rat; she can wait at the Xue Residence’s back door.”

”Okay, I will relay it to her.” Nanny hurriedly wiped her tears, ”But the Lady wishes to take her two young masters and Junwang’s family along; otherwise, she cannot rest easy.”

Jiang Yichun laughed coldly, ”Years ago, she parted from my father, leaving me behind, why didn’t she talk about peace of mind?”

If today Gai Yalai came to meet Jiang Yichun, perhaps he wouldn’t be reminded of past events, since their mother-son relationship had eased quite a bit. But Gai Yalai’s cowardice not to appear left Jiang Yichun disappointed.

What kind of person is he, could he not see through her thoughts?

”Back then, she did it for Old Master Bai, and as a child to parents, there’s no way to be unfilial. It’s been so many years, Young Master, you should resolve your grievances.” Nanny softly said, ”Once the Lady and Young Master leave, it might bring trouble to the Xue Family, leading to lives being implicated by the new Emperor.”
