Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1709: Chapter 1709 Touching the Girl’s Thigh

Bai Ruozhu was strolling in the yard with the help of a maid. She had chosen two honest and steady ones to serve her closely as her body had become heavy and inconvenient. The two maids were named Huang Qin and Rendong, and Huang Qin was the one helping her.

The Bai Family returned to their hometown with some servants and guards. Since the residence was small now, everyone lived closely together, and many guards had nothing to do. As a result, four guards were even watching the Bai Family’s main gate. Bai Yihong feared being too ostentatious, so they weren’t allowed to stand outside the door; all four stood inside.

Upon hearing a visitor, they opened the door and asked, and a voice with a hint of laughter sounded: ”Tell Bai Ruozhu that Senior Fox is here.”

Bai Ruozhu was standing in the yard and, turning her head, saw Senior Fox outside the open main gate; she couldn’t help but widen her eyes. How did this guy get here?

She quickly stepped forward, ”Why are you here? Are you feeling unwell?”

She instinctively felt that he was probably looking for medical treatment.

But upon a closer look, she noticed Senior Fox’s complexion was quite good. Both of his sleeves were tied to his sides, making it obvious that he had lost his arms. But on his left arm, there was a ring with a piece of leather about an inch wide tied to it, and the leather was fastened with a hook not too long or too short.

She remembered that almost his entire right arm had been cut off at the shoulder, while his left arm still had a short segment that could still move.

He’d managed to come up with a solution even for this; she suddenly felt her nose sour with emotion. Indeed, no matter when, Senior Fox never gave up; he continued to live strongly.

”Do I look like I’m in discomfort like this? I’m very well now. Let me tell you, I can take some things myself and writing has improved a lot.” Senior Fox smiled, looking somewhat proud as if saying, ”Hurry and praise me.”

Bai Ruozhu suppressed the sadness in her heart; the person before her didn’t need anyone’s sympathy. She smiled and said, ”Really? That’s amazing, and it’s been just a few days. But is your arm healing well? Aren’t you worried about muscle necrosis with the strap tied like this?”

Toward the end, her tone transformed into that of a doctor scolding an uncooperative patient, yet Senior Fox’s eyes and eyebrows were curved in a smile.

”Rest assured, the Emperor bestowed high-quality wound medicine, and the wounds have fully healed,” he said with a smile.

”Let’s not just stand here talking; let’s sit in the hall. I’ll have them serve you tea. And my parents will be certainly pleased to see you.” Bai Ruozhu smiled and led him toward the house. He turned his head and called out to the valet beside the horse carriage outside: ”Lai Shun, why are you still standing there? Hurry and bring down the gifts I brought for the Bai Family elders.”

”Ah, young master, can’t you call someone for help?” Lai Shun replied with a grin.

Bai Ruozhu signaled to the guards, and immediately two went to help Lai Shun with the gifts. Only after moving them did they realize there were indeed quite a few items.

”Why the need to be so polite with such familiar relations?” Bai Ruozhu gave Xu Huilin a look.

He replied with a grin, ”For life-saving grace, isn’t it worth sending more gifts? Besides, I’ll be here for a while; how can I come empty-handed?”

”You’re going to stay at my place?” Bai Ruozhu was walking forward, and her steps momentarily paused. The current mansion isn’t as spacious as in the Capital; it’s somewhat cramped, isn’t it a bit unfair for him to stay?

Xu Huilin still wore the same grinning expression, ”You have no idea how annoying Beiyu City is; those people look at me helplessly every day. Some lament the unfairness of fate, others bemoan that my life is ruined; my grandmother and father feel distressed whenever they see me, so I had to escape here. What, you’re not welcoming me?”

”You’re Achun’s senior, also the eldest grandson of my godmother, and my sworn brother. How could I not welcome you?” Bai Ruozhu raised her eyebrows and said.

By this point, the two had reached the main hall. Lin Ping’er and Bai Yihong warmly greeted Xu Huilin. Upon seeing Xu Huilin’s arms, their hearts were slightly pained. Bai Ruozhu secretly signaled to her parents and then used the excuse of instructing the servants to serve tea to call her mother outside.

”Mom, my sworn brother wants to stay with us for a while. His situation is special; he said that seeing him distresses my godmother in Beiyu City.” Bai Ruozhu said in a low voice.

Lin Ping’er wiped the corner of her eyes, ”Of course, seeing him makes you feel sad. If he wants to stay, let him stay; I’ll have someone prepare the room immediately.”

Bai Ruozhu pulled her mother back as she was about to leave in a hurry, resignedly saying, ”Mom, listen to me finish.”

”What else?” Lin Ping’er was a straightforward person, wanting to act once a decision was made, with a look of reproach at her daughter’s fussiness.

”Mom, he doesn’t like others to pity him or act regretful and distressed upon seeing him. Please tell Dad and my older brother and sister-in-law later, ask them to be mindful and treat him like an ordinary guest, without constantly thinking about his injury.” She paused before continuing, ”My sworn brother views things far more openly than all of us; he’s really optimistic, not just pretending to be. But after being pitied continuously, it can be uncomfortable.”

Lin Ping’er nodded hastily, ”You’re right; I’ll talk to your dad later. He might already be engaging him in concerned conversation.”

However, upon their return to the main hall, they found the atmosphere exceptionally good. Bai Yihong saw Bai Ruozhu and said: ”Daughter, Huilin said he wants me to make a mechanical arm. Can you draw some designs? Your dad’s skilled in woodworking but not in designs.”

”Sure, I’ll draw them for you in the next couple of days.” Bai Ruozhu responded with a smile. Indeed, Senior Fox remained optimistic; others might still be wallowing in despair, but he was already actively preparing for future life.

After that, Xu Huilin stayed at the Bai Residence, where the Bai Family treated him casually, making him especially happy. He and Bai Yihong became close friends despite their age gap, often tinkering with woodworking together. Bai Yihong had found a like-minded friend and often wore a smile, treating Xu Huilin almost as if he were his son.

Several days passed like this, but one day, upon waking from her afternoon nap, Bai Ruozhu heard soft sobbing outside her room; she found it quite odd since everyone at home was kind; who might be aggrieving a maid?

”Who’s outside?” She asked.

”Miss, it’s me, Zhanna.” Zhanna replied, her voice slightly choked.

As she got up, Bai Ruozhu said, ”Zhanna, come in and speak. Are you crying? Who upset you?”

Zhanna entered the room, curtsied slightly to Bai Ruozhu with reddened eyes, and said, ”Miss, I’m sorry to disturb your rest, but I, I...”

She spoke and again started crying.

”You haven’t disturbed me; I woke up on my own. What’s the matter?” Bai Ruozhu asked worriedly.

Zhanna glanced at Rendong standing beside her, hesitated, and then, blushing, said, ”Miss, you must stand up for me. That Meng fellow lifted my skirt and even touched my thigh!”
