Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1714: Chapter 1714: Bai Family’s Son-in-law is Disabled

Bai Ruozhu was very satisfied with the outcome of this matter, and even more pleased to see the old man put in his place. As a result, she was in a great mood and felt much lighter.

Because Bai Fuqi stormed off to see the second household and came out defending them, people in the village were still speculating that he must have done something to wrong the second household. However, no one knew what it was, and everyone had wildly different guesses without any basis.

”If I were you, I wouldn’t waste so much effort. Just poison them to silence with a single dose,” Xu Huilin muttered beside Bai Ruozhu, watching her draft with an unhappy look. He clearly felt that Bai Ruozhu was distracted by such trivial matters, delaying the progress of his drawings.

Although Bai Ruozhu studied medicine in her past life, she wasn’t specialized in prosthetics, so she could only explore slowly based on memory. It wasn’t as simple as randomly drawing two wooden sticks, plus it had to fit Xu Huilin’s condition, so it naturally took a long time to finish the drawing.

”It’s a pity I can’t find my senior brother, otherwise with his mechanical technique expertise, he would be more suited to draw this diagram,” Bai Ruozhu said with a sigh.

A look of regret also flashed across Xu Huilin’s eyes. He knew that prosthetics made with mechanical techniques would have been much better.

”Forget it, you just draw it first. I’m going out for some fresh air.” He said as he took Lai Shun and left the Bai Family, wandering toward the riverside.

By this time, spring had already begun, and you could catch some small fish in the river. He had Lai Shun bring a fishing rod while he sat quietly by the side, gazing at the river, lost in his thoughts.

Lai Shun knew his young master; although he didn’t show a worried face, he still had some regrets.

Regretting how he had come to trust that master. If it weren’t for Wu Yunfeng passing him a message, he wouldn’t have gone, and then wouldn’t have been tormented into such a state.

Of course, Lai Shun didn’t know that what Xu Huilin regretted the most was that when Wu Yunfeng had someone cut off one of his arms and was about to cut the other, he abandoned all dignity to beg Wu Yunfeng, pleading with the master he had respected for more than ten years to spare his only remaining arm for the sake of their relationship—yet Wu Yunfeng gave the order without even blinking.

Blood sprayed, splattering his face, the warm blood blinding his eyes. His vision turned red with blood, yet he still saw his right arm fly off and land some distance away.

He hated it; he hated his master’s heartlessness and baseness, and he also hated his useless pleading. Clearly, the one who cared nothing for him, what use was there in begging?

Suddenly, a splash of water hit the dazed Xu Huilin’s face; instinctively, it reminded him of the blood from his severed arm, and he panicked, backing away hastily, only to end up falling to the ground.

”Young master, what’s wrong?” Lai Shun quickly tossed the fishing rod aside to help Xu Huilin. Only then did Xu Huilin realize that Lai Shun had just caught a fish, which, in its flailing, splashed water onto his face.

He smiled wryly, ”It’s nothing, I just lost my footing.”

For someone missing two arms, balance would be affected, so it’s normal to be unsteady.

Lai Shun felt a pang of sorrow in his heart but didn’t dare show it on his face. He helped Xu Huilin stand up, smiling, ”Let’s go back and have the kitchen make fish soup to give you a boost.” Saying this, he picked up a lively little fish. Though small, it was perfect for fish broth.

”Alright,” Xu Huilin replied with a smile.

Just then, he heard someone murmuring not far away. He turned to see it was some women doing laundry on the other side of the river.

He told Lai Shun to continue fishing, while he quietly listened.

”Did you see? That’s the man Bai Ruozhu married. All that talk about being favored by the emperor, turns out he’s a cripple. Otherwise, would an aristocrat from the Capital marry a village woman?”

”No wonder he didn’t come out before, and was never introduced to everyone. Afraid of losing face, probably?”

”Isn’t that the truth? Even my chubby girl wouldn’t marry such a cripple, yet the Bai Family’s second branch praised him so highly. I always thought he was a desirable catch.”

The women burst out laughing.

Lai Shun, who had trained in martial arts from a young age, heard these words loud and clear. He immediately threw down the fishing rod, ready to deal with those women.

Indeed, these rural women, what nonsense were they spouting? Calling his young master a cripple—his young master might be physically disabled, but his spirit certainly wasn’t, and did these gossiping women have the right to speak about his young master?

”Lai Shun, hold on,” Xu Huilin called out to Lai Shun.

”Young master, people like this need teaching a lesson. Don’t stop me!” Lai Shun fumed.

Xu Huilin laughed and said, ”I’m not stopping you; I just have a few more instructions.”

”Oh, go ahead, young master.” Lai Shun obediently stood still, eager to finish listening so he could go and scold the women, berating them so fiercely they’d be drenched in disdain. After all, he’s just a servant boy without a rule against hitting women.

”These rumors can’t be suppressed. Using the Bai Family to deal with them isn’t good for them either, so go explain my identity, that I’m not Bai Ruozhu’s husband, and also praise my junior brother a bit. Additionally, just give them a light lesson; don’t cause any deaths.” Xu Huilin said calmly.

Lai Shun felt a bitterness in his heart; why praise Lord Jiang? Praising him just seems to highlight your inadequacies in comparison, master.

But his master used to be no worse than Lord Jiang. It’s just a pity...

Lai Shun dared not think further, quickly walking toward the women who were gossiping. He ended up simply using his light skills across the water to reach the other bank, stunning the gossiping women into silence.

”What are you looking at? You few gossipy hens, listen up: my young master’s surname is Meng. He’s the eldest son of the Beiyu City Lord’s family and hasn’t yet married. Stop spreading nonsense. Do you know how high-ranking the City Lord is? More than ten times your county magistrate!”

The county magistrate Li, far away in Anyuan Town, was blissfully unaware that he became someone to be compared against and was even being counted as ten times less.

Lai Shun haughtily held his head high, his demeanor extremely arrogant, ”Miss Bai’s husband’s surname is Jiang, and he is my young master’s junior brother. My young master is here recuperating; he’s only staying at the Bai Residence temporarily, so don’t mix things up!”

The women were dumbfounded, one stupidly muttering, ”So what if he’s the City Lord’s son? He’s still a cripple without arms, isn’t he?”

This made Lai Shun furious. Swiftly moving forward, he slapped the woman hard on both cheeks, left and right, several times, saying, ”Do you think you are worthy to judge my young master? Today slapping your mouth is light punishment. Next time you’ll not be so lucky; if you don’t value your lives, try speaking again.”

The woman shrieked in pain, and the other women, petrified, said, ”How can you hit people?”

Lai Shun turned his head and slapped that woman a few times as well, saying, ”This is called slapping a filthy mouth, a special punishment for those with foul mouths. Get lost, and if I hear you talking about my young master again, next time I’ll break your necks!”

The women, faced with the Slaughter God-like Lai Shun, fled in a hurry out of fear.

Lai Shun returned triumphantly to Xu Huilin, with an expression asking for praise, but he didn’t expect Xu Huilin to sternly ask, ”I told you to praise my junior brother a bit. Where did you praise him?”
