Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1727: Chapter 1727 Sending Off Guests Who Refuse to Leave

The woman holding Eggy felt a bit embarrassed, her face turning red, she said, ”Ruozhu, you’re too kind, the child is little, no need to give anything.”

Only then did Bai Ruozhu realize that her aunt introduced a bunch of people, but didn’t introduce this eldest daughter-in-law.

Zhang Family snatched the pouch from Eggy’s hand, glared at her eldest daughter-in-law, and said, ”Just accept the gift from your aunt’s side, don’t be so petty, forget it, the child is young, I’ll keep it for him.”

After speaking, she smiled and said to Eggy, ”Be good, Eggy, grandma will buy you some sugar figures.”

Eggy called out a couple of times, although reluctant, didn’t cause a fuss.

The maidservants serving tea in the room couldn’t help but show disdain, even small families don’t act like this, who snatches a child’s meeting gift? If someone has to keep it, it should be the child’s mother, and it’s done discreetly, none of this hurried snatching in front of the gift-giver.

Bai Ruozhu inwardly scoffed, her aunt was not only as critical as her mother said, but greedy too.

Since her mother didn’t like them, she didn’t need to mind these people.

With that thought, she stood up and said, ”I’ll go tell the kitchen to add some dishes, Uncle, you all chat first.”

”Good, good, you go ahead.” Lin Jiang beamed when he heard about adding dishes, his face lighting up.

Actually, Bai Ruozhu didn’t need to personally go to the kitchen to give instructions; she was just looking for an excuse to avoid them. Besides, her older brother is here, so there’s no fear her mother would be bullied.

Besides, this was the Bai Family, could her mother ever be bullied by others?

She went to the kitchen, casually gave some instructions, then watched the kitchen maid cook, occasionally pointing out a few things. Ever since she no longer suffered from morning sickness, she no longer feared the smell of kitchen oil fumes.

Before long, there was a sound of soft footsteps outside, and Lin Shenggen’s wife slowly walked over.

”Cousin, I’ve yet to introduce myself, I’m Zhao Xia, your older cousin’s wife,” Lin Shenggen’s wife said confidently.

Bai Ruozhu nodded at her, ”I greet my older sister-in-law.”

”We’re about the same age, just call me by my name, I came here to deliver a message from your older cousin, that his parents tend to mess around, whatever they ask for, just nod and let it go, don’t bother about them,” Zhao Xia spoke candidly.

Bai Ruozhu paused, ”What will they ask for?”

Zhao Xia pursed her lips, hesitating before saying, ”It’s not quite right to speak ill of my in-laws, but my husband says you’re really kind-hearted. He doesn’t want his parents to hurt you again.”

Again? Bai Ruozhu pondered why ”again”? Her mother hadn’t mentioned anything from the past about her maternal family.

”Alright, I understand, my mother is assertive, she won’t be easily manipulated. I’ll help too. Don’t say anything then, lest it makes things difficult for you later,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Zhao Xia laughed along, ”We tried to dissuade them a lot before coming, but it was useless. My mother-in-law was even angry with me, to be honest, we can’t really help much.”

Bai Ruozhu appreciated her frankness, gaining more favor for her, at least she wasn’t being insincere.

”I’ll go back and check things, you can come over later, so Aunt won’t get upset again.” Bai Ruozhu winked at her, making Zhao Xia burst out laughing.

”Cousin, you’re right.”

Bai Ruozhu returned to the main hall just in time to hear her elder aunt say, ”Sister-in-law, don’t you like Lin Xue? She’s good with needlework, has read some books, and is quick-handy. If she were your daughter-in-law, wouldn’t it be family marrying into family?”

Lin Jiang chimed in, ”Yes, cousin marriage, generation after generation.”

Bai Ruozhu scoffed, that’s close-relative marriage, although common in this era, she couldn’t accept her family engaging in such close-relative breeding.

”Aunt, you must be joking, I only have two brothers, my older brother’s children are running all over the place, and my second brother’s marriage was granted by the Emperor, the matchmaker’s cards have been exchanged, and the engagement made, my parents don’t have other sons, how could cousin Xuexue become a daughter-in-law?” Bai Ruozhu noticed her mother’s face turning livid, she smiled and said a few words, walking over to gently squeeze her mother’s hand, signaling her not to be angry over such people.

”What? An imperial marriage?” Lin Jiang’s face instantly fell, clearly upset with his plans completely ruined.

”Yes, and it carries a decree, these things can’t be joked about,” Bai Ruozhu continued smiling.

Zhang also looked disappointed, murmuring, ”What a pity.”

Lin Xue’s face turned beet red, ”I’m going outside to play.”

Without waiting for the elders’ consent, she ran off by herself.

Bai Ruozhu scoffed inwardly, even if not versed in the rules of big families, even ordinary family children show more upbringing than this.

If you’re shy, you should have avoided early, running off because you can’t handle the situation, you didn’t even properly greet the elders, a casual ”I’m going outside to play”, who knows who she’s talking to?

This was still while guests were visiting.

Lin Ping’er saw Zhang’s disappointed face, feeling especially satisfied inside, finally showing a smile on her face.

Zhang seemed quite disappointed and was absent-minded afterward, only getting better during lunch.

After the meal, Lin Ping’er said to the maid beside her, ”Wrap some festival gifts for uncle, it’s a long road, if they leave late they’ll travel in the dark.”

This was indirectly sending the guests off, but Lin Jiang pretended not to understand, saying, ”Little sister, it’s rare for me to come see you, won’t you have me stay a few more days?”

Lin Ping’er’s face instantly fell, ”There aren’t enough rooms, and you didn’t inform us ahead of time, truly inconvenient to keep you overnight.”

Lin Shenggen couldn’t hold back anymore, saying, ”Dad, Eggy gets homesick, we should head back, we can find another time to visit aunt and uncle.”

”If you want to leave, leave, since when do elders get interrupted by you?” Lin Jiang suddenly roared, his voice loud enough to startle everyone in the room, the little baby Eggy immediately started crying.

”Cry, cry, crying all day long, how is the eldest daughter-in-law raising the child, a boy taught to just cry, like a woman!” Lin Jiang changed his tone, directly scolding Zhao Xia.

Eggy, in his mother’s arms, seeing his grandfather glaring at his mother and scolding, cried even more fiercely.

Zhao Xia, her face flushed with anger, her back straightened, said calmly, ”Isn’t a child getting frightened and crying normal? Whose children don’t cry? If a child isn’t scared to tears by you, father-in-law, then they really should see a doctor.”

Bai Ruozhu secretly laughed, her cousin-in-law’s words were brilliant, not just tolerating quietly, neither compromising herself nor the child.

At this moment Lin Ping’er couldn’t hold back anymore, slammed the table loudly, and said, ”Lin Jiang, are you causing trouble at my place? You yell at me in your house, but this is my house, not for you to shout here!”
