Chapter 1598: Chapter 1598: Sangta Bids Farewell_1

”But how could Beauty Xu be in such a condition? The palace is too chaotic, isn’t it?” The image of the man in the mask and Fu Yiyi’s indecent scene flashed through her mind, and she couldn’t help shivering.

”The Imperial Palace is not peaceful either. The Inner Palace is so vast, and the Shadow Guards are limited. After all, some people have been established there for a long time. However, this time we managed to find quite a few remnants of Prince Yu, which is indeed a significant gain,” Jiang Yichun said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded. In any case, she had also avenged Beauty Xu. Thinking of Beauty Xu smiling and saying goodbye to her in her dream, she truly felt at peace in her heart.

The days that followed were relatively calm, except that Saihan was still living in the Traveling Lodge. He didn’t enter the Palace again, but his envoys were still adamant about insisting on a political marriage with Princess Diao Yao.

And from Xiu Cuicui, Bai Ruozhu received news that Saihan had already gotten together with Ma Linglong behind the scenes. The two of them had even rolled in the sheets together, and it seemed that Saihan had promised to make Ma Linglong his concubine.

Bai Ruozhu also took the opportunity to invite the Chu siblings to her home to play, hoping to ask Chu Hai about his intentions. If Chu Hai was interested in Yingtong, she and Achun would definitely help to bring about the happy union.

She, Bai Matchmaker, was truly addicted to playing the role.

When Chu Hai came to the Bai Family, he was treated like family. Lin Ping’er was extremely enthusiastic toward him, genuinely treating him like a nephew, and although Chu Hai was aloof, he was very respectful to his elders and got along very well with the elder Bai couple.

”Miss, I heard that Young Master Chu Hai has come. I want to show him that I can walk!” Zhanna rushed to the front yard upon hearing the news, hurrying so much that she was staggering and almost tripped over.

Seeing the fine sweat on the tip of her nose, Bai Ruozhu said, ”Yes, you haven’t seen him for a while. Go and greet him.”

Zhanna now had a prosthetic leg. Though it wasn’t as light or flexible as the one made by Ning Yu, she could walk, but her movements were somewhat stiff, and she couldn’t move very quickly.

Watching Zhanna’s excited look, Bai Ruozhu felt somewhat sorry for her, but feelings could not be forced, and she couldn’t compel Chu Hai to accept Zhanna.

Chu Hai was a boy with a cold exterior but a warm heart. His previous care for Zhanna in the Western Regions was purely out of sympathy for her plight. He didn’t expect to stir true affection in Zhanna’s heart.

”Young Master Chu, look, I can walk,” Zhanna exclaimed excitedly as soon as she entered the room.

Noticing a woman by Chu Hai’s side, her expression inevitably dimmed, and her head involuntarily drooped.

Chu Hai was genuinely happy for Zhanna. Just from the excitement in her voice when she spoke, it was clear she had overcome the shadow of her leg amputation.

”Good, you’re an optimistic and proactive girl. Your future will be even better,” Chu Hai said sincerely.

”Thank you, Young Master.” Zhanna thanked him and then quietly retreated to the side.

Bai Ruozhu entered the room, had the maid serve tea to everyone, and after a few words of casual conversation, Bai Ruozhu suddenly smiled and asked, ”Chu Hai, you and Yingtong seem to have a good relationship. Are you helping her to find her consort?”

Chu Hai was taken aback, ”I wouldn’t dare to offer any suggestions. It’s up to her to choose.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”She is from the Western Regions, and you’re half Western Regions. I think the two of you are quite well-matched.”

”I...” Chu Hai’s face flushed to his neck. To see him like this was rare, and Bai Ruozhu immediately understood.

If he hadn’t been touched, he would only look on dispassionately, no matter what anyone said, and he wouldn’t blush.

Seeing her brother like this, Diao Yao couldn’t help but smile with her lips pursed, though there was a touch of melancholy in her eyes. The person she had liked for so long turned out to be her own brother. Although she had let him go, occasionally she still felt a pang of heartache.

Zhanna was completely stunned on the side, looking back and forth between Bai Ruozhu and Chu Hai, her eyes welling up with tears.

She had always been a strong girl and quickly suppressed the tears that threatened to come.

She could tell that Chu Hai had developed feelings for Princess Yingtong.

When Chu Hai and his sister left, Bai Ruozhu suggested going to see the picture books that Zhanna had drawn and then accompanied Zhanna back to her residence.

”Zhanna, do you blame me?” Bai Ruozhu asked softly with a sigh.

Zhanna hurriedly shook her head, ”How could I? I’ve always understood that Mr. Chu Hai had no extra thoughts about me; it was all my wishful thinking to see him. Just now, I was indeed shocked and felt bad, but I know Madam wanted me to know sooner rather than falling deeper.”

Seeing Zhanna so sensible and clever, Bai Ruozhu felt even more reluctant. She touched Zhanna’s head and said, ”Some people are destined to just pass us by, but that’s because destiny is arranging for someone more suited to meet you. I believe you will definitely meet the one who truly belongs to you.”

”Is this what the Elder says about fate not having arrived yet?” Zhanna smiled with relief.

Bai Ruozhu took her hand and went inside to look at the picture books she had drawn. Her heart was pure and optimistic, and the content and images she created were very good. Bai Ruozhu gave her a few pointers, and she quickly understood, which was why Bai Ruozhu found her to be really suitable for this work.

”My picture book gallery is about to open, and you will be my chief illustrator!” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Zhanna, seeing that she could help Bai Ruozhu, smiled happily too. Bai Ruozhu then assigned her tasks and it seemed that by keeping busy, she could put the matter of her unrequited love behind her and quickly step out of her heartache.

Because the picture book gallery was opening, Bai Ruozhu arranged for her steward to look for a location. This time, she did not choose a location on a bustling street, but neither was it an isolated area. Instead, she opted for a peaceful spot amidst the hustle and bustle.

The steward found several shops, just waiting for her to review and pick the most suitable one. She looked at several in a row, and was very satisfied with two of them. Without much hesitation, she bought both; one to be the picture book gallery and the other to be kept for future use, knowing that it would eventually be needed.

That’s the advantage of having money; when you can’t decide, just buy them all.

Bai Ruozhu was about to head home after selecting the shops when Sangta approached from the other end of the street.

”Ruozhu, I’m going back,” he said as he approached her.

”Leaving so soon? But I guess that’s expected, since you’re not here on an official visit and staying too long wouldn’t be convenient,” she replied with a smile. ”If you’re leaving, we must at least have a drink to mark your departure.”

Sangta smiled happily, ”That’s the spirit of friendship. I won’t stand on ceremony with you!”

”Haha, no need for ceremony. A meal won’t bankrupt me,” Bai Ruozhu joked.

The two of them went to the ”Welcoming Guests” restaurant, laughing and joking along the way. Sangta was now dressed in the attire of the Danliang people, appearing like a noble son of Danliang, as his innate nobility was something he couldn’t conceal even if he tried. However, the fierce scar on his face was still somewhat intimidating.

Bai Ruozhu invited him to a private room and asked the shopkeeper to serve their signature dishes and bring in a jar of fine wine.

Sangta poured the wine with great enthusiasm and toasted with Bai Ruozhu three times in a row.

”I didn’t expect you to drink so heartily; you even have some of the boldness of our Barbarian Tribe,” Sangta said with a laugh.

”Didn’t you say I’m the noble person prophesied by your Barbarian Clan? Naturally, I can’t be lacking,” Bai Ruozhu replied, also laughing.

Sangta laughed heartily and took out a sheepskin scroll from his chest, handing it to Bai Ruozhu, ”The Beast Taming Technique. Guard it well, and make sure it does not fall into the hands of others.”
