Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1587: Chapter 1587 Is It So Easy to Hang Oneself?_1

By this time, the guests had already dispersed, but a few friends with close ties to Yu Chenghua, including Jiang Yichun, had not yet left, and Yu Chenghua was still accompanying them in drinking. Bai Ruozhu had naturally not been in a hurry to leave either and had gone to the bridal chamber to bring some food to Jiang Zhihe and sat down to chat with her.

Yu Residence had very few servants, with just a gatekeeper named Zao Bo and two personal guards of Yu Chenghua. If Jiang Zhihe had not married into the family, the Yu Residence wouldn’t even have had a maid. Being a warrior and having observed mourning for his parents previously, Yu Chenghua’s household naturally did not bustle with women.

Therefore, when Zao Bo rushed to report, he instantly alarmed everyone drinking in the main hall. Given the small size of the Yu Residence and the close proximity of the rooms, both Jiang Zhihe and Bai Ruozhu in the bridal chamber heard the commotion.

Jiang Zhihe was so angry that her eyes turned red. Even a clay figurine has a temper, ”Uncle and the rest have crossed the line. Dou Yun actually went so far as to hang herself in front of our door; who is she trying to scare?”

Yet, Bai Ruozhu began to laugh, patting her hand and saying, ”Zhihe, you’ve made progress, knowing that she’s just trying to scare people.”

Jiang Zhihe, feeling a little embarrassed by such a remark, calmed down somewhat. She said, ”Stop teasing me, sister-in-law. It’s just that I’m too easily bullied, which is why they ride roughshod over me.”

”You stay put in the bridal chamber, and don’t go out at any cost. I’ll go have a look,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Jiang Zhihe showed a look of shame. ”Getting married has already caused enough trouble for big brother and sister-in-law, and now you have to keep solving problems for me today. I—I really don’t know what to say.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled, patting her head. ”Later, just put on your red veil, alright? Once Dou Yun has been dealt with, Chenghua will come to lift it. Didn’t you say we’re your big brother and sister-in-law? If we don’t help you, who will?”

Having said that, she got up with a smile and hastened toward the main gate. Jiang Zhihe watched her back, feeling a warmth in her heart. How wonderful it was for big brother and sister-in-law to be back!

Yu Chenghua was also about to go out to deal with the situation, his face so dark it was almost possible to scrape off the soot. Anyway, after today’s events, he was definitely holding a grudge against the Dou Family. This matter was far from over.

Bai Ruozhu gave a sideways glance to Jiang Yichun, saying, ”You take your brother-in-law back to continue drinking. How could he, a newly-wed groom, step forward in such a situation? I’ll go and handle it. You’ve never heard of a young girl easily hanging herself in front of someone else’s door.”

Jiang Yichun gave her a smile and then quickly led Yu Chenghua back. With a feeling of shame, Yu Chenghua said, ”Sister-in-law is troubled yet again.”

Jiang Yichun gave him a stern look. ”A sister-in-law is as respectful as a mother. It’s right for your sister-in-law to help you out. From now on, just show her some more respect.”

Bai Ruozhu had not walked far when she nearly stumbled and fell. Was her man drunk? What was this ’a sister-in-law is as respectful as a mother’? Yu Chenghua was several years older than her. Was this meant to suggest she was that old?

Dou Yun’s cries outside brought her back to her senses. She thought about settling the score with him later, but for now, she had to deal with Dou Yun.

She approached the half-closed main gate, suddenly raised her foot, and kicked hard against the door panel. She kicked right between the two doors, causing them to fly open violently. Then there was the sound of a collision and a scream, as the wailing Dou Yun who was carrying on about dying toppled out.

The corners of Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched upward slightly. Dou Ning and his wife were elders, so it wasn’t appropriate for her to raise a hand against them. But as for Dou Yun, she was the sister-in-law. Teaching a lesson to a cousin who didn’t know her place and who didn’t cherish life was precisely the role of a sister-in-law like her.

Dou Yun’s previous tantrum had already attracted quite a crowd of onlookers. When people outside saw Dou Yun falling down the steps, they were startled. Just as they were about to comment on the cruelty of the act, they saw a woman rushing out, shouting at Dou Yun, ”Cousin, you’ve really taken things too far. It’s fortunate that your sister-in-law acted fast and kept you from being successful in hanging yourself, otherwise you...”

Bai Ruozhu paused for a moment and then sighed, shaking her head, ”Why would a perfectly fine young lady think of hanging herself? As your elder sister-in-law, I can’t stand by and watch you treat your life like a joke.”

The onlookers realized what was going on, so she was trying to prevent the woman from hanging herself. Well, it was one way to go about it, and at least the woman was now a bit further away from the belt hanging from the beam.

Dou Yun, clutching her bruised chest, wanted to say that she hadn’t even hanged herself yet, and it was Bai Ruozhu who had intentionally kicked her. But she wasn’t foolish; speaking out would be tantamount to admitting she never intended to hang herself and was just trying to frighten people, right?

Tears streaming down her face, she got up with a look of grievance and determination, ”Since you all caused the imprisonment of my parents and ruined my reputation, what point is there for me to live? Big sister-in-law, when you were helping Zhihe destroy my reputation, why didn’t you worry about my life then?”

Bai Ruozhu had seen Dou Yun like this before. If Dou Yun made a fuss at the Bai Residence Gate, she would simply have her driven away. But now, as the Yu Residence had just celebrated a wedding, and the couple hadn’t even consummated the marriage, it wouldn’t be good for Yu Chenghua and his wife, and it could affect Jiang Zhihe’s reputation if things weren’t made clear.

”Your parents are our distant relatives. Even after separating from the family, the Jiang Family gave you a portion of the inheritance and you are still not satisfied. On the day of the Jiang family’s second daughter’s wedding, your family caused trouble. The Residence just sent them to the Capital’s Chief Officer for judgment; how is that imprisonment? And you accuse others of destroying your reputation out loud all the time. Look at what you’re doing now. Is this appropriate behavior for an unmarried girl? Has your family not destroyed Zhihe’s reputation?” Bai Ruozhu said sternly.

”You’re talking nonsense. Now that you’re powerful, you put the blame on us. I can prove my conviction with death. How can you smear me so carelessly?” Dou Yun put on an act of immaculate nobility as if her family was framed by others.

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”Right and wrong, just go and ask around in the Capital. The daytime drama of your parents has already spread throughout the Capital. The eyes of the public are bright; we can’t just throw dirt on someone in public.”

As she spoke, she pointed to the belt hanging from the beam, ”Don’t think I can’t see through your intentions. If you want to cause trouble for Zhihe, the Yu Residence won’t be affected by your actions, but if you insist on hanging yourself, I won’t stop you anymore. Go ahead and hang yourself!”

The onlookers couldn’t help but gasp. This woman was fierce. To actually hang herself at the door of the Yu Residence, wouldn’t that bring bad luck?

Bai Ruozhu, seeing the reaction of the crowd, couldn’t help but laugh, pointing under the belt, ”The belt isn’t even high enough, even if you hung your neck there, your feet wouldn’t leave the ground. How would you manage to hang yourself? You’d have to keep your legs lifted off the ground the entire time. Tell me, if someone is being strangled to death, where would they find the strength to keep holding their legs up? That would require an extraordinary talent.”

The crowd was amused by Bai Ruozhu’s tone and came to understand that hanging oneself required not just a rope but also a stool to step on or a stone to stand on.

So the woman causing a suicide spectacle was just putting on a show, causing trouble for her cousin inside who was getting married.

Many people started discussing the incident, but since they were dealing with a young woman, no one yelled or cursed loudly.

”If she’s this malicious before she’s even married, no wonder no one wants her.”

”I heard today about Elder Jiang Ge’s relative causing a scene at the Jiang family. It turns out this baby is from that family; like parents, like daughter.”
