Chapter 1592: Chapter 1592: Going to the Palace to Present an Imperial Decree_1

Bai Ruozhu smiled and instructed Jianqi in front of the carriage, ”Tell my husband to get a few imperial censors to submit a petition, to thoroughly discuss what happened today. Even the Grand Princess cannot simply kill people in the streets.”

”Yes, Mistress.” Jianqi replied.

Bai Ruozhu settled back in her seat and smiled at Jiang Zhihe, ”We’re going to the Palace to petition the Emperor, we can’t be like we are now. That scene just now scared us half to death, we nearly got chopped down by the Grand Princess’s guards!”

Jiang Zhihe was startled for a moment, then she understood Bai Ruozhu’s intentions and couldn’t help but laugh, ”Big sister, you really have a way with things.”

Bai Ruozhu deliberately put on a stern face, ”Don’t laugh, you need to cry!”

As a result, Jiang Zhihe laughed even harder, ”But I can’t cry right now.”

After saying this, she herself was somewhat surprised. If it had been before, she would have already been crying her eyes out from fright, but now why didn’t she feel like crying at all?

She looked at Bai Ruozhu, her admiration for her big sister-in-law growing even stronger. It was as if her big sister-in-law had some kind of magic that made people feel at ease and become stronger.

Bai Ruozhu didn’t know that she had become almost divine in Jiang Zhihe’s heart. With a thought, she hid her hand in her sleeve and took out a small bottle from Space, opened it, and held it before Jiang Zhihe’s nose; she then sniffed it herself.

”Big sister, what is this?” Jiang Zhihe felt almost choked and couldn’t help but back away, but soon she found that tears were unstoppable as they fell.

Heh, big sister had said to cry, and now she truly made her cry...

When she looked again, Bai Ruozhu’s tears were also streaming down as she wiped away the tearstains, her eyes red.

”Don’t worry, this won’t hurt your eyes. A little crying can even cleanse them. We’re about to reach the Palace Gate,” Bai Ruozhu said, putting away the medicine bottle.

She had the Empress Dowager’s waist token and was the Chief Doctor of the Female Physicians Institution, so naturally, no one stopped her from entering the Palace.

The palace guards at the door were startled; they had never seen Bai Ruozhu cry.

Bai Ruozhu took Jiang Zhihe’s hand and headed towards the Imperial Study Room. Along the way, whenever they encountered a little eunuch, she would say, ”Go and inform Eunuch Wang Shun that Bai Ruozhu wants to see the Emperor to submit an Imperial Petition.”

Upon hearing about submitting an Imperial Petition, the little eunuch’s calves trembled, but seeing the purse Bai Ruozhu handed him, he promptly went to deliver the message.

At this moment, inside the Imperial Study Room, the Emperor was reviewing petitions, with Bai Zepei by his side helping to classify and arrange them, standing quietly to the side waiting for instructions.

Wang Shun was outside the Imperial Study Room when he saw a little eunuch running over in a hurry.

He glared at the little eunuch and said in a low voice, ”What’s the matter that you’re so unruly?”

”Eunuch Wang, just now a sweeper eunuch came to deliver a message from Bai Madam, saying Bai Madam wants to submit an Imperial Petition,” the little eunuch said.

”What?” Wang Shun was startled for a moment. Under normal circumstances, even if Bai Ruozhu was wronged, she could ask the Empress Dowager for justice. Coming here to submit a petition was a serious matter.

He couldn’t help but think of the rumors he heard this morning, saying that Jiang Family’s second young miss’s wedding was disrupted by a relative. But such a matter wouldn’t be beyond Jiang Yichun’s ability to resolve, and Bai Ruozhu wouldn’t submit a petition over such a trivial matter, right?

”Eunuch Wang, that little eunuch said that Lord Bai also brought a lady with him, and both of them had eyes red from crying,” the little eunuch said in a hushed voice.

”They were both crying? This is a serious matter indeed,” Wang Shun waved his hand to dismiss the little eunuch, and turned back to the Imperial Study Room, pondering how to inform His Majesty, estimating that the parties concerned would arrive soon.

He glanced at Bai Zepei again. He had learned a good deal about the newly coined silver medallist these past days. Despite appearing as a weak scholar, he was very steady of character and was especially protective of his sister.

”Your Majesty, Lord Bai Ruozhu seems to have been wronged and has come to the Palace crying, saying that she wants to present an Imperial Decree,” Wang Shun said.

He rarely disturbed His Majesty with petitions because the Emperor often got irritable at this time, and no one dared to provoke the Emperor’s anger. Bai Ruozhu must have considered this, hence, she sent word ahead to him, hoping he could give His Majesty a heads-up and avoid rushing over and getting on the Emperor’s bad side.

Tang Yin set down his brush and couldn’t help but laugh, ”What could possibly make Bai Ruozhu cry?”

His question was directed at Wang Shun, but he looked towards Bai Zepei. Speaking in a low voice, Bai Zepei said, ”My younger sister has always been strong and rarely sheds tears, but she is after all a woman.”

Wang Shun inwardly praised him. This silver medallist was indeed eloquent. When a person appears too strong, others might feel indifferent to their suffering since they are used to handling things well. Bai Zepei’s words served as a reminder to the Emperor that no matter how strong Bai Ruozhu is, she is still a vulnerable woman, which should prevent His Majesty from making an unjust decision.

Tang Yin nodded thoughtfully, ”Then We must see what this is all about.”

After all, Jiang Yichun was like a brother to him, and Bai Ruozhu was his sister-in-law. Although she was somewhat cunning on a daily basis, she was a woman at the end of the day.

Just as he was speaking, eunuchs outside reported, ”Your Majesty, Chief Doctor Lady Bai, accompanied by Miss Jiang Zhihe, sister of Lord Jiang, requests an audience.”

”Let them in,” the Emperor said.

With permission granted, Bai Ruozhu, holding Jiang Zhihe’s hand tightly, entered the Imperial Study Room. She secretly squeezed Jiang Zhihe’s hand and gave her an encouraging look, signaling her not to be afraid.

Together, they bowed to the Emperor; then Bai Ruozhu, without crying but with eyes still red and voice somewhat choked, said, ”Your Majesty. This servant wishes to present an Imperial Decree, to accuse the Grand Princess of being unable to distinguish right from wrong, letting her guards unsheathe their swords and chase to kill us in the street.”

She appeared to be so wronged but forced herself to suppress her tears. Though her tear ducts reddened again, and she struggled to contain her voice, it was somewhat choked.

Such a woman seemed strong, but because of this strength, others found her even more pitiable.

Rage ignited in Bai Zepei’s eyes; the Grand Princess had indeed gone too far!

Tang Yin, feeling a bit of a headache, massaged his temples. Why was it the Grand Princess again? He knew very well why Huilan, the Grand Princess, disliked Bai Ruozhu, always seeking opportunities to trouble her. But because of their relationship, it was not easy for him to punish the Grand Princess, and now another incident had arisen.

”Speak, what exactly happened?” the Emperor asked tiredly.

Bai Ruozhu straightened her back, and recounted how Jiang Zhihe got married, how Dou Ning and his wife came to make trouble, how Dou Yun went to the Yu Family to hang herself, and finally, how the Grand Princess, without discerning the truth, insisted on Cheng Hua marrying Dou Yun into the family.

”Your Majesty, there’s never been a rule about marrying one’s own relative as a concubine. Furthermore, Yu Chenghua and Zhihe were just married yesterday; Dou Yun’s actions are clearly meant as revenge. They say a harmonious family leads to prosperity. If the Yu Family takes in such a person, grievances will never end. If his family is not at peace, how can he devote himself to serving the Imperial Court?” Bai Ruozhu said.

Jiang Zhihe fell to the ground with a thud, ”Your Majesty, this servant refuses to yield and begs Your Majesty to uphold justice for this servant!”
