Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1557: Chapter 1557: Xiaohei is a Good Friend of Dengdeng_1

Luluo did not admit to having an eye on anyone that day, only asking for two days to consider, after all, it was a matter of a lifetime commitment, so it was only right for her to think it over carefully.

When Bai Ruozhu left Cining Palace, she encountered the hopeful gazes of three guards and couldn’t help but find it amusing, especially the one who always wore a cold expression, Jing Lei. She couldn’t resist saying, ”Jing Lei is getting anxious now, weren’t you able to speak nicely before? And to think you said you were dull, why didn’t you mention you don’t know how to court a lady?”

Jing Lei’s face turned red, and in truth, he was also very vexed. He wasn’t trying to act cool, nor did he not want to speak more, he had thought of many words to say, but every time he opened his mouth, he became nervous, wondering if someone as dull as himself could be liked by the other party.

As a result, he didn’t know how it happened, but he ended up saying he was dull. If he hadn’t been so accustomed to staying steady as a rock under pressure, he would have slapped himself right then and there.

Seeing that Jing Lei remained silent, Bai Ruozhu waved her hand and said, ”Enough, enough, I’ll sort it out for you all later, guaranteeing that each one of you will get a wife.”

Seeing the trio seemingly breathe a sigh of relief, Bai Ruozhu suddenly felt that being a matchmaker was quite a satisfying experience.

...

In the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Hao Baishuang found an eunuch manager and said, ”Could you please help me post an announcement, I plan to recruit ten female physicians outside the Palace.”

The eunuch glanced at her and said, ”Whether it’s here or elsewhere, recruiting new people always requires the person in charge to sign off. Recruiting for the Imperial Palace is not to be taken lightly, and if the Female Physicians Institution wants to employ more staff, Chief Doctor Bai must personally sign.”

Hao Baishuang was displeased upon hearing this. ”I am the deputy head of the Female Physicians Institution, isn’t that enough? I have the Grand Princess vouching for me, do you think I’ll recruit random people?”

The manager eunuch glanced at her lazily and replied, ”Oh, you’re using the Grand Princess to pressure us now? These are the rules we have set. Otherwise, you could also seek the Emperor or Empress’s edict.”

With Hao Baishuang unable to reason with him, she left in a huff to find the Empress. However, the Empress, already somewhat annoyed by previous matters, simply did not allow her in. Thus, a frustrated Hao Baishuang had no choice but to return to the Female Physicians Institution.

As soon as Bai Ruozhu entered the Female Physicians Institution, she was stopped by Hao Baishuang.

”Chief Doctor Bai, I want to recruit ten female physicians. Please speak to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for me,” Hao Baishuang said with a stern face.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at her coldly and let out a derisive laugh before saying, ”The Female Physicians Institution is managed by me, and I’ll consider whether to recruit or not in due time—it’s certainly not your place to dictate.”

”As a vice head, I cannot possibly have no subordinates under me—are you trying to alienate me deliberately? Currently, there are ten female physicians; if you don’t want to recruit anymore, fine, just assign me a group,” Hao Baishuang raised her voice, drawing the attention of other female physicians at the institution.

The mocking look on Bai Ruozhu’s face deepened as she walked to her seat and sat down comfortably before saying, ”The entire Female Physicians Institution is under my full control, and you’re just one of my subordinates. What right do you have to demand a group of people and pose as my equal? We do not tolerate the petty infighting here. Better drop your crooked thoughts at once, or even if someone has your back, I can still kick you out!”

If it hadn’t been for Hao Baishuang recently curing Consort Liu’s poisoning, and the incident had not yet died down, Bai Ruozhu would not have wanted to draw too much attention. Otherwise, she would’ve simply poisoned her directly to make her go back and recover from illness.

Of course, if she were not pushed to the extreme, she wouldn’t plan on using poison within the Imperial Palace, nor did she want to expose her trump card too soon.

Hao Baishuang, trembling with rage, pointed at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”You, wait and see!”

”Dare to point at an officer, do you want to be slapped again?” Tian Fang called out from beside her.

Seeing Tian Fang approaching, Hao Baishuang had no choice but to dodge out and simply left the Imperial Palace to visit the Grand Princess.

Apart from finding Hao Baishuang unpleasant, Bai Ruozhu also did not intend to recruit new people any time soon. The Female Physicians Institution had not contributed much yet, and the physicians still required further training. At this moment, hiring more people would not only mean paying more salaries but could also lead to mismanagement and unnecessary mistakes, which she did not want to give anyone the chance to fault the institution.

In the afternoon, she returned to the Residence early, and after paying her respects to her parents, she learned that Dengdeng was playing in the Back Garden. She headed straight there, making sure to spend more time with her son whenever she was not busy.

However, from a distance, she saw Little Dengdeng lying on the ground with the huge black panther pressing on top of him, its massive jaws biting down towards Little Dengdeng...

”Xiaohei, no!” Bai Ruozhu shouted sharply, nearly losing her soul with fright, as she rushed over crazily. The people following her like Chenfeng, who had better light-body skills, moved even faster.

”Giggle, giggle...” Little Dengdeng let out a bell-like laugh, ”It tickles, stop licking!”

After saying this, Little Dengdeng stretched out his little arms and hugged Xiaohei’s neck, rolling on the ground with him, looking extremely happy.

Chenfeng and two others also dashed up and came to a halt together. This, wasn’t Xiaohei going crazy and trying to bite Dengdeng?

Bai Ruozhu rushed up, her heart still pounding as she pulled Little Dengdeng up and held him in her arms, saying, ”Dengdeng, you and Xiaohei are playing too wildly, you scared mother to death!”

Dengdeng looked confused, ”We didn’t do anything, ah? Xiaohei is my good friend, it’s rolling with me, I like Xiaohei!” After speaking, Dengdeng laughed again with a giggle.

Xiaohei got up and rubbed its head against Bai Ruozhu, then tenderly licked Little Dengdeng with its tongue. The gesture was so gentle it made Bai Ruozhu’s heart settle down. She had really misunderstood Xiaohei.

Nanny Zhang walked over from the side. She had been watching from nearby, though Bai Ruozhu, startled as she was, hadn’t noticed her presence.

”Madam, don’t worry. Initially, I also feared that Xiaohei might harm the young master, but I discovered that Xiaohei is particularly good to him. They say animals are especially kind to children, and it’s truly the case. Xiaohei is also a spirit animal, recognizing that the young master is the child of its owner,” Nanny Zhang said.

Bai Ruozhu caressed Xiaohei’s head and apologized, ”I misunderstood you just now. Sorry about that.”

Xiaohei understood her words and rubbed his head against her, displaying an obedient demeanor, indicating it wasn’t upset.

”Xiaohei won’t hurt me, it even lets me ride on it!” Little Dengdeng said while moving to hug Xiaohei’s neck. Xiaohei indeed lay down to allow Little Dengdeng to climb onto his back, then carefully started to walk with him on board, walking extra cautiously as if afraid of dropping Dengdeng.

Everyone looked on in amazement, finding Xiaohei to be incredibly spirit.

”Beast Pets of the Barbarian Clan are not ordinary beasts; you’ve underestimated it!” A voice came from over the wall at one side of the Garden, followed by a figure leaping onto the wall’s top.

The nearby dark guards swiftly converged, about to engage with the newcomer, but Bai Ruozhu urgently shouted, ”Stop! Let him in!”
