Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1575: Chapter 1575: Sentimental or Unfeeling Depends on the Person_1

”It’s a shame I didn’t suspect her,” Tang Yin’s voice was very cold, betraying no emotion. He must be angry, right?

Bai Ruozhu thought to himself that he knew Lady Xu was wronged, and she had a child in her womb when she died. Did he regret it?

”That’s why I’m not content, that’s why I told her Lady Xu died because I hated her and purposely caused her death, I wanted her to feel guilty for a lifetime. She really was furious at the time, she wanted to kill me.” As Lady Kuai said this, she burst into laughter again, but suddenly her face changed, and she began to cry, ”So she poisoned me, I was in pain and itching miserably, she poisons a concubine, her crime intensifies!”

”You are no longer a concubine, I have stripped you of your title; anyone cleaning up after you would not be excessive,” Tang Yin said coldly.

Bai Ruozhu looked at Lady Kuai and said, ”You actually went to such insane lengths, but how did you force Lady Xu to confess? And who really cast the curse?”

”Her parents were captured by the Duke, could she not listen to me? The one who cast the curse was naturally the Duke’s person, right?” As Lady Kuai spoke, she suddenly shook her head frantically, ”No, no, it was you, Bai Ruozhu who cast the curse, wasn’t it? Your Majesty, you should have her drawn and quartered, let her die the same way as that cheap woman, Lady Xu, let them both taste the pain of being cut to shreds!”

Tang Yin’s hand formed into a fist hidden in his sleeve, ”Good, I’ll let you taste the pain of being cut to shreds!”

At that moment, Jiang Yichun walked in from outside the room and, bowing to the Emperor, said, ”Please, Your Majesty, hand Lady Kuai over to me for interrogation. After figuring out everything, then she can taste the pain of being cut to shreds.”

Tang Yin took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, ”Fine, I leave this matter to you.”

Bai Ruozhu stepped forward, ”Lady Kuai is mad beyond measure, yet she mentioned that Lady Xu’s parents were taken. I remember the Xu family lives here in the Capital; the people can’t be hiding too far. Please, Your Majesty, issue an order to rescue Lady Xu’s parents. Perhaps we can also trace the root of the problem and uncover the mastermind behind it all.”

It would be fulfilling Lady Xu’s last wish, she thought to herself, while also inwardly blaming Lady Xu for being too naive. Would they really let go of her parents after her death?

The Emperor looked at Bai Ruozhu, then said to Jiang Yichun, ”Yichun, this is also your task. Additionally, I am assigning you a squad of Shadow Guards at your disposal.”

”Yes, Your Majesty,” Jiang Yichun replied.

Seeing the Emperor was about to leave, Bai Ruozhu felt a twinge of distress and hastily said, ”Your Majesty, since Lady Xu died wrongfully, could she be exonerated?”

Tang Yin paused in his step, suddenly scoffed, and then strode away. It was as though he was extremely irritated and might order Bai Ruozhu’s execution at any moment.

Behind them, Lady Kuai’s maniacal laughter echoed, ”Hahaha, you want to overturn the case for that cheap woman? Dream on. Can the Emperor slap his own face? He made an example of Lady Xu. To overturn the case now would be a joke, wouldn’t it? Hahaha.”

Bai Ruozhu clenched her teeth. She knew Lady Kuai was mad, but on this matter, Lady Kuai was more lucid than she was.

The Empress Dowager came over and took Bai Ruozhu’s hand, speaking softly, ”Come back to Cining Palace with me, let’s sit and talk.”

Seeing the Empress Dowager about to leave, the Empress hurriedly paid her respects, and Jiang Yichun also bowed to the Empress Dowager, then ordered people to take the raving Lady Kuai away.

Bai Ruozhu looked back at Lady Kuai feeling relieved she had not used immediate death by severe poison on her; soon Lady Kuai would also taste the pain of being executed by lingchi.

Perhaps Lady Xu, if there are spirits in heaven, will feel a bit more at peace?

The Empress Dowager took Bai Ruozhu’s hand, and the two walked not too fast. It wasn’t until after they left Hanlu Palace that the Empress Dowager finally said, ”Don’t blame the Emperor. There are many things out of his control once he becomes an Emperor. Outsiders think that as the ruler of a nation, everyone has to listen to him, to do as he pleases. But that’s just the surface. There are many times when even the Emperor can’t act on a whim like ordinary people.”

Bai Ruozhu felt that Tang Yin was heartless, and even though she didn’t verbalize it after the Empress Dowager spoke, her face showed a hint of disdain.

”Take commoners getting married for example, many can choose based on their own preferences, but do you think the Emperor can marry whomever he likes?” said the Empress Dowager as she shook her head, ”Enough of this, I will arrange for a proper burial for Lady Xu. You should not grieve over this matter anymore.”

While urging Bai Ruozhu not to be upset, the Empress Dowager herself burst into tears, muttering, ”Did Lady Xu really conceive? How tragic, how tragic.”

After spending some time in Cining Palace, Bai Ruozhu left the palace and returned home. That evening, Jiang Yichun did not come back, and it was only at dawn the next day that he entered the room, his body wreathed in mist.

”Lady Xu’s father was rescued, her mother had a weak constitution and fell while being captured, and passed away in a couple of days,” said Jiang Yichun as he strode over and took her hand. ”Lady Xu’s father, aware of everything, said that he brought disaster upon his daughter. He has already submitted a petition to the Emperor to retire and return to his hometown, and will no longer concern himself with the court’s affairs in the Capital.”

Bai Ruozhu sighed in relief, ”Lady Xu, if there is knowledge after death, should be able to rest in peace now.”

”This matter has implicated two high-ranking eunuchs in the palace, who had deceived us for many years. Moreover, I don’t think it sounds like the work of Prince Duan, it rather seems like someone else was using Prince Duan’s name as a cover,” Jiang Yichun added.

”Who could it be? Could it be Saihan?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Jiang Yichun shook his head, ”Not sure.” He stretched out his hand wanting to embrace her but kept his distance, fearing the mist from his body might contaminate her.

”Achun, with the Emperor being so cold-hearted, do you really want to devote your life to helping him unite the land? What if one day he treats us with the same heartlessness?” Bai Ruozhu disregarded everything else, leaning into his chest and speaking in a low voice.

”Whether the Emperor is sentimental or not depends on whom he is dealing with. I’m not making excuses for him, but could he be heartless towards Concubine Le? You should know, a person’s love cannot be divided among many. His affection was given to Concubine Le, how could he willingly share it with others?” Jiang Yichun’s voice was quiet and deep, ”If it were me, having you, could I possibly spare any affection for another woman? If we speak of heartlessness, wouldn’t I be heartless towards Ling?”

Bai Ruozhu was a smart person, and she understood immediately, but...

But one couldn’t just watch others die unjustly!

She gave Jiang Yichun a glare, ”Oh, bringing up Ling all of a sudden, feeling guilty and soft-hearted about her? Isn’t she no longer a Shadow Guard now? All you need to do is speak to Concubine Le, and you can take her back into the Room.”

Jiang Yichun sealed her lips with his, and his large hand, as if punishing her, landed on her buttocks. It took a long time before he let go and said, ”All of my affection is tied up with you alone, there’s only heartlessness for other women, so don’t bring up those groundless things with me!”

Bai Ruozhu gasped for breath and looked up, ”Let’s talk about retiring someday, with my business acumen, we won’t worry about food and drink.”

He reached out and playfully tapped her nose, ”Alright, when you’re tired of all this, I will retire with you.”
