Chapter 1558: Chapter 1558: Nothing Good Comes with Him_1

The person on the wall had a ferocious scar slanted across his face, which would definitely startle an ordinary person, but upon closer examination, the face beneath that scar was rather handsome and even carried a touch of the wildness of the Alien Domain.

Bai Ruozhu greeted him with a smile and asked, looking up, ”Sangta, what brings you to Danliang?”

As Sangta looked at her upturned little face and the joy in her eyes, a mix of emotions slowly spread in his heart. Her appearance really moved him, making him want to rush over and embrace her tightly.

But he knew he couldn’t!

Her smile was that of joy at the reunion of friends, her eyes, though happy, held not a trace of romantic love.

Yes, he knew she didn’t love him.

Even so, she still caused him great concern. If he were to rashly hug her, he would surely annoy her, and even this friendship might cease to exist from that point on, so he couldn’t, nor dared to overstep.

When had he, Prince Sangta, ever fallen to such a state? Sangta inwardly chuckled bitterly; she was truly a torment sent by the heavens.

”Just passing time, came for a visit, don’t you welcome me?” Sangta tried to make his smile more relaxed.

”How could I not welcome you? If it weren’t for your help back then, I’d still be under Honglian’s control,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Back then, it was he who had stopped giving her the ointment provided by Honglian and helped her find Achun. Just for these things alone, she had long considered him her best friend.

Little Dengdeng looked at Sangta curiously and muttered, ”This uncle is so good at climbing walls.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed and said to Sangta, ”Sangta, this is my son, Dengdeng. Isn’t he cute?”

Turning his attention to Little Dengdeng, the boy politely greeted him, saying, ”Hello, Uncle Sangta, my name is Bai Chengtai, but you can call me Dengdeng.”

Sangta looked at the small face of Little Dengdeng, a combination of the best features of Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun, and his heart couldn’t help but become a bit dazed. No wonder when she was in the Western Regions, her thoughts were all on this child. Indeed, he was a lovable kid.

At that thought, a twinge of jealousy arose within him – those Jiang genes were just too good, weren’t they?

Noticing Sangta was alone, Bai Ruozhu quickly asked, ”You didn’t bring anyone with you? Where’s your Bai?”

Previously, when Bai Ruozhu saw his white tiger named Tiger Cyclone, which he shamelessly insisted be called Xiaobai, she jokingly began to call it Bai as well.

”Outside the City, bringing it in would make too much of a fuss, bound to scare people,” Sangta said as he approached and reached out to pet Xiaohei, who snorted twice, dodging haughtily and cuddling up to Little Dengdeng instead.

Sangta was quite embarrassed; Xiaohei would let a little baby pet it but wouldn’t let him touch, an utterly unprecedented situation for the prince of the Barbarian Tribe, who was used to every Beast Pet in the Beast Team treating him with the utmost respect.

However, his attention quickly shifted as he remembered Dengdeng just saying his name was Bai Chengtai, and he couldn’t help asking, ”Why doesn’t your son have the surname Jiang?”

Bai Ruozhu curled her lip and said, ”He married into my family, so of course, the child will have my surname. At the time of his birth, he was away due to an accident, which caused me much suffering; naturally, the child couldn’t take his surname.”

Upon hearing this, Sangta’s mood greatly improved, and he found himself looking at Little Dengdeng with particular fondness.

”Dengdeng, do you want uncle to teach you a little trick about taming beasts? My family raises beast pets just like Xiaohei,” said Sangta with a smile like a wolf grandmother luring a child.

”Yes, yes!” Little Dengdeng got excited.

Bai Ruozhu showed a look of resignation, ”Don’t be in such a hurry to play with my son; tell me what’s brought you to the Capital City all of a sudden. Nothing’s wrong, I hope?”

”Can’t I give you a surprise? Didn’t I say last time that if we met again, I would teach you the beast-taming skill of the Barbarian Clan? I, Sangta, am a man of my word,” Sangta said, very nonchalantly, with a hint of a carefree attitude.

After thinking for a moment, Bai Ruozhu ordered the nearby dark guards to go away, leaving only Morning Breeze and two others nearby.

”Alright, now everyone here is my confidant. Tell me the truth,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Sangta smiled, ”Actually, I had intended to visit, but I didn’t expect the Western Regions to stir up so soon, so I volunteered to come to Danliang myself.”

Bai Ruozhu was shocked, ”What kind of stir? The king of the Western Regions Country hasn’t sent me any word.”

”The message is probably on its way. They definitely can’t beat my speed. I’ve heard that the king wants to marry Princess Yingtong to Danliang for a marriage alliance. Naturally, the Barbarian Tribe needs to understand their intentions. If they intend to team up with Danliang to attack the Barbarian Clan, wouldn’t that be troublesome?” Sangta furrowed his brows as he spoke. They’ve been robbing less lately, focusing more on cultivating Cistanche. Just when it seemed like the Barbarian Tribe could live a prosperous life, he didn’t want warfare to arise now.

”It’s probably nothing else. That girl has been in contact with us and seems to have taken a liking to Danliang’s culture. Even if she comes for a marriage alliance, she might not necessarily marry into the Royal Family; she likely intends to find some accomplished young man in Danliang to marry,” Bai Ruozhu thought. Considering the king of the Western Regions’ temperament, it was unlikely that he would act against the Barbarian Clan so soon after the Holy Hall incident. The Western Regions would need a good few years to recover first.

”Who knows? We still need to get a clear picture before feeling reassured, right? Why not we arrange a marriage with one of our princesses?” Sangta’s eyes lit up, ”I’ve heard your second brother isn’t married yet, and he’s the newly appointed second top scorer in the official examination. How about we have a Barbarian Clan princess as your sister-in-law?”

A twitch appeared at the corner of Bai Ruozhu’s mouth. Was her second brother so desirable that everyone was setting their sights on him?

”No way!” she flatly refused. ”The emperor’s decree for his marriage should be coming down soon. We are a humble family, and we do not wish to marry a princess!”

Sangta chuckled slyly but did not continue the topic. However, there was a flicker of light in his eyes as if he wasn’t entirely listening.

”Your scar has faded a lot. Start using this from today, and it will heal even faster,” Bai Ruozhu reached into her sleeve and with a thought brought out a bottle of ointment, which she had been preparing for Sangta since she returned. Initially, she had planned to have Nilu send it to Sangta when he went on a business trip to the Western Regions, but now she could give it to him personally.

Sangta accepted the ointment with a smile, ”Good, thanks!”

He chatted with Bai Ruozhu for a few more minutes before saying goodbye. Yet, he didn’t leave through the Main Gate but climbed over the wall again, leaving Bai Ruozhu feeling quite embarrassed. If someone saw this and thought there was some issue...

After a while, Jiang Yichun hurried back and came straight to the Garden, his expression suggesting that the people below had already informed him of Sangta’s visit.

”Has he left?” Jiang Yichun sounded somewhat conflicted. He really couldn’t act the way he used to by attacking Sangta on sight anymore.

Bai Ruozhu knew his thoughts well and couldn’t help smiling, ”If he didn’t leave, would you have been waiting to spar with him? He’s my friend now, so don’t go picking fights, especially since you were the one who stabbed me with a sword back then.”

Jiang Yichun immediately wilted. He knew that Sangta’s visit wouldn’t be without issues. See, it had already reminded his wife of his dark history.
