Chapter 1556: Chapter 1556 Blind Date_1

Muyu’s face collapsed at once, and he grumbled, ”Wasn’t it said that Miss Luoluo would pick by herself? Maybe she would fancy me. Look at Jing Lei and the others, all with cold expressions; Miss surely wouldn’t like them!”

As he spoke, he deliberately grinned, beaming radiantly. He looked nothing like a dark guard, but rather like an idiot in heat.

Jing Lei and Chen Feng rolled their eyes at him and then ignored him completely, as if lowering their intelligence to argue with him was beneath them.

”What a pity Lightning isn’t here to take advantage of the grand benefit arranged by the madam,” Jiang Yichun said with a smile.

Bai Ruozhu listened pridefully and said, ”I’ve met Luoluo before; she doesn’t care about wealth and splendor and only wants to find a good person to live with. Her Heart Nature is indeed rare. Not to mention, her appearance and talent are top-notch, so it’s your good fortune. Speaking of which, I had even considered arranging her for Jianqi.”

Jianqi’s face instantly turned green, and he said in a deep voice, ”Master, I don’t want to marry yet, please don’t meddle in matchmaking for me.”

Jianqi was the only one who dared to speak to Bai Ruozhu so bluntly. Nobody else was surprised, as Jianqi seemed like a celibate type; it was normal for him not wanting to marry yet.

However, Chen Feng and Jing Lei didn’t object, which showed that they too were considering marriage, considering they had reached the appropriate age.

Bai Ruozhu gave Jianqi a big roll of the eyes, ”If you don’t want to marry now, I won’t force you, but if in two years you’re all still bachelors, I’ll have to arrange someone for you. Otherwise, you’ll be too old, and what girl would want to marry you then?”

”Exactly, exactly; the madam is so thoughtful,” said Muyu with a delighted face, believing that even if Luoluo didn’t pick him, the madam would arrange someone for him in the future.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly laughed, ”Muyu, if you’re so eager, why didn’t you marry He Lianlian back then? That was such a good opportunity. You had hugged her and touched her; if you really had to marry her, it wouldn’t be impossible.”

Upon hearing this, Muyu’s face collapsed again, ”Madam, please don’t tease me. Who was it that made me embrace her? Even if I, Muyu, am anxious to get married, I’m not that desperate, right?”

Bai Ruozhu laughed and didn’t bother to argue with him. She simply said, ”Look sharp tomorrow and come with me to Cining Palace.”

”Yes,” the three of them said in unison.

The next day arrived in a blink; Bai Ruozhu brought Chen Feng, Muyu, and Jing Lei into the Palace, while Jianqi insisted that with the three of them for protection, he didn’t need to go. Bai Ruozhu found it amusing, how could Jianqi be so confident that Luoluo would take a fancy to him?

Upon reaching Cining Palace, Bai Ruozhu had someone announce their arrival. Soon, the Empress Dowager brought Luoluo to the Main Hall. Luoluo was quite bold and not at all the shy type often expected of young girls.

However, naturally, she could not speak for herself, so the Empress Dowager asked on her behalf.

”But, looking at you, all young lads full of vigor, what are your names, and who do you have in your families?” the Empress Dowager asked with a smile.

The three took turns answering, but since none of them had families, there wasn’t much to say.

They had been chosen by the Bureau of Colonial Affairs as orphans and later became Jiang Yichun’s confidants.

”What responsibilities do you all have, what have you done recently, and what kind of temperament do you have? Why don’t you tell us about it?” The Empress Dowager thought for a while before coming up with a way to get to know the three men.

”Your Majesty, I am a close attendant of Lord Jiang, assigned to protect the lady. I don’t have many merits, but I tend to become alert in dangerous situations. Additionally...” Muyu said as he sneakily glanced at Bai Ruozhu, continuing, ”the lady always says I’m funny, but I haven’t felt that I am funny in any particular way.”

The Empress Dowager couldn’t help but smile, pointing at Bai Ruozhu and saying, ”Are you bullying an honest person here?”

Bai Ruozhu smiled and replied, ”It’s because he’s funny that everyone likes to tease him.”

Muyu then simply introduced himself, but when it came to his duties, he skimmed over the details, wary of revealing his master’s affairs. Still, when speaking of his disposition, he stated, ”I consider myself rather steady, not particularly talkative. But if I were to take a wife, I would make an effort to converse more with her.”

Muyu showed a look of regret, cursing himself for not having thought to say those words earlier. Chasing the Wind was indeed too sly!

When it was Shocking Thunder’s turn, he spoke even less, and his own verdict of himself was—dull.

Bai Ruozhu burst into laughter, ”Chasing the Wind claiming to be steady is also a way of praising himself, but Shocking Thunder, you calling yourself dull, I must say it’s impressive you came up with that. With your own words, it might indeed be difficult to find a wife.”

Shocking Thunder’s typically cold face flushed slightly, ”You’ve made the Empress Dowager and the lady laugh at me.”

Bai Ruozhu had no choice but to tell the Empress Dowager, ”Don’t be fooled by his brevity; he has a keen attention to detail, or else many tasks couldn’t have been completed so beautifully.”

The Empress Dowager nodded, feeling that each of the three men had their own merits, leaving the choice up to Luoluo.

Bai Ruozhu also looked towards Luoluo with a smile, ”They have all introduced themselves; I think it’s Luoluo’s turn to talk about herself, right? That would only be fair.”

Unable to contain her laughter, the Empress Dowager chided Bai Ruozhu with a glance, ”You’re about to embarrass Luoluo to death.”

Luoluo’s face bloomed with twin spots of crimson, yet she still curtseyed and said, ”I don’t have anything special about me, just decent at needlework. I hope to find someone with a kind heart to spend my life with, without the strife of wives and concubines competing. I’d prefer not to have any concubines at all. I don’t aspire for splendor and wealth, only mutual respect. In time, I will manage our household well, so that my husband can rest assured when he is away.”

By the end, her pretty face was even redder.

The impression Muyu and the others had of Luoluo was favorable; after all, her appearance was top-notch, she didn’t seek riches or high status, and she had an open and straightforward nature. Why wouldn’t they feel fondly towards her?

The Empress Dowager asked a few more questions before dismissing the three men, leaving Bai Ruozhu to talk privately.

The Empress Dowager then spoke of Luoluo’s background, revealing that her family had once been learned and reputable, and her father an official in the capital. Luoluo’s mother had been young and acquainted with the Empress Dowager. Alas, she married poorly; her husband favored his concubine over her, leading her to a sorrowful demise.

Within a few years, Luoluo’s father, under the influence of his beloved concubine, accepted bribes, practiced corruption, and caused the loss of lives. After the scandal broke, he was executed, and his property was seized. Luoluo was taken in by the Grand Princess, but she was not sold to her, or else she wouldn’t have been able to escape from the Princess Residence.

Even so, Luoluo was not ungrateful. Though she could not accept being given to the Duke of the Zheng Country as a concubine, she nonetheless handed over her family’s secret Double-Sided Embroidery technique to the Grand Princess to repay her for the years of care. She had hoped that the years of connection would help the Grand Princess let go of her grudges, but even the secret technique was not enough to quell her fury.

Bai Ruozhu was amazed upon hearing this; Luoluo claimed her needlework was just passable, yet that was quite the understatement—Double-Sided Embroidery was a rare skill at the time!
