Chapter 1591: Chapter 1591: Killing on the Street_1

Grand Princess Huilan strode over, her face cold as she said, ”How can someone brazenly abuse their power to bully innocent civilians under the broad daylight?”

Dou Ning approached Grand Princess Huilan with a flattering face and said, ”Grand Princess, your wisdom is unparalleled. You must uphold justice for our family. Bai Ruozhu was disrespectful to the Elder, and Yu Chenghua took advantage of my daughter without taking responsibility. We beg the Grand Princess to deliver justice!”

A hint of mockery flashed in the eyes of Grand Princess Huilan as she looked at Bai Ruozhu and slightly lifted her chin, her demeanor incredibly haughty.

But in Bai Ruozhu’s eyes, all she saw were the Grand Princess’s large nostrils, which she found ludicrously comical and incredibly ugly.

”A young lady’s reputation is of paramount importance, how can you tarnish it? Where is this Yu Chenghua? Call him to marry your daughter and take responsibility!” The Grand Princess was completely imposing her authority on the situation.

The moment Jiang Zhihe heard this, she became anxious, ”Grand Princess, you cannot simply take their word for it. My husband has not disrespected Dou Yun, he even saved her life; otherwise, she would have been hanging dead here by now.”

”Impudent! Did I allow you to speak? You cannot even manage your own husband and now you’re covering up for his mistakes, what should be your punishment?” The Grand Princess interrupted Jiang Zhihe’s words, her voice suddenly becoming harsh and stern.

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly pulled Jiang Zhihe aside; the Grand Princess was clearly provoking them, and Jiang Zhihe, unaware of the situation, would only cause more trouble by trying to explain.

Jiang Zhihe looked at Bai Ruozhu anxiously; she had made up her mind not to back down, so she had no intention of complying with the Grand Princess’s commands.

Grand Princess Huilan looked at Bai Ruozhu and snorted coldly, ”Bai Ruozhu, as a female Chief Doctor, you show no respect for your Elders, which is contrary to the traditions of Danliang Country. Just now, you even instructed your servant to harm a relative. You’re truly unfit to be a female officer in the Palace!”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh, ”Isn’t the Grand Princess busy? How come you’re meddling in the Yu Family and the Jiang Family’s private affairs?”

”Can’t I manage you? Besides, the Dou Family is crying injustice; it’s only natural that I lend them a hand,” said the Grand Princess.

Bai Ruozhu pulled Jiang Zhihe behind her and said with a smile, ”Of course, the Grand Princess can manage this, so naturally I wouldn’t dare to send them away. However, my cousin and I have matters to attend to, so we will take our leave first.”

Since the Grand Princess intended to support the Dou Family in continuing this farce, it was better for her and Jiang Zhihe to stay out of it—out of sight, out of mind.

”Stop right there!” the Grand Princess commanded, ”Did you not hear what I just said? Call Yu Chenghua to take responsibility for Dou Yun.”

Bai Ruozhu touched her ear, ”I heard you, but wasn’t the Grand Princess speaking to Yu Chenghua? I’m not Yu Chenghua, am I?”

”Since you do not object, have Dou Yun brought into the Yard; from now on, she is one of the Yu Family,” said the Grand Princess.

”Would our opposition matter? My cousin just got married, and without asking for detailed reasons, the Grand Princess wants to force Dou Yun upon my cousin’s husband. Even though we are of humble status and cannot confront the Grand Princess, we cannot agree to this affair. Even if we must enter the Palace and file an Imperial Decree, we will seek justice for ourselves!” Bai Ruozhu, seeing that she was not allowed to avoid the situation, decided to confront it head-on. If the Dou Family could get the Grand Princess involved, then she would seek the Emperor’s judgment.

”You are truly rebellious,” the Grand Princess pointed at Bai Ruozhu’s nose and said, ”Don’t think just because the Empress Dowager likes you, you can do whatever you want. I am still the Emperor’s own aunt, and the Emperor will naturally discern who matters more.”

Bai Ruozhu tilted her head to avoid her finger and said with a cold laugh, ”The Emperor is indeed fond of the Grand Princess, but he is also a wise ruler who will discern right from wrong.”

After saying that, she pulled Jiang Zhihe along, ”Let’s go to the Palace and file an Imperial Decree right now. There’s no reason for you to suffer injustice for nothing!”

Jiang Zhihe’s gaze firmed up, and although she had been somewhat afraid, the warmth in her sister-in-law’s palm seemed to give her infinite courage.

”Alright, sister-in-law, I won’t shrink back in fear anymore.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled contentedly and took her by the arm to stride forward. The Grand Princess, trembling with rage, called out to her guards, ”What are you standing there for? Seize these two shrews who disrespect me!”

Seeing this, Dou Ning’s face broke into a schadenfreude smirk, while Dou Yun’s eyes were filled with hatred, as if she couldn’t wait to devour Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Zhihe whole. Lady Dou on the side fanned the flames, ”How outrageous, to be disrespectful to the Grand Princess! You must have lost your heads.”

Without needing Bai Ruozhu to speak up, Jianqi stepped forward with his men who, instead of attacking, stood firm, chests puffed out like a wall blocking the path of the Grand Princess’s guards.

The Grand Princess did not expect Bai Ruozhu to have even more guards than she did, which only added to her embarrassment, making her so angry that she nearly ground her silver teeth to bits.

”Beat them for me, hard! If they’re killed, I’ll take responsibility!” The Grand Princess commanded arrogantly.

Bai Ruozhu turned to Jianqi and the others, ”Don’t show any disrespect to the Grand Princess, and don’t get hurt. Be careful and dodge.”

”Yes!” the guards answered in unison, their response laced with a hint of amusement in the tail of their voices, for to them, the Grand Princess’s guards hardly seemed worth watching.

Jiang Zhihe’s palms began to sweat, and Bai Ruozhu squeezed them tighter. She paused, her heart calming once more. Boldly, she turned to see a rather comedic scene unraveling.

The Grand Princess’s guards went to attack Bai Ruozhu’s people, who did not fight back, instead dodging and retreating. The guards either missed or were easily blocked, turning red with frustration, while Bai Ruozhu’s people looked thoroughly at ease, as if playing with monkeys.

Unable to help herself, Jiang Zhihe let out a laugh, which was indirectly a slap in the face of the Grand Princess.

The corners of Bai Ruozhu’s mouth also lifted. The Grand Princess was just that, a princess, and couldn’t possibly keep many high-level guards, unless she enlisted people from the Jianghu. Meanwhile, Bai Ruozhu’s dark guards were carefully handpicked and cultivated for years by her master. How could they be compared to ordinary guards?

The Grand Princess’s face grew uglier by the minute, angrily shouting to her guards, ”Draw your swords, what are you waiting for? Kill them!”

But Bai Ruozhu had already pulled Jiang Zhihe into a nearby horse carriage, and seeing it was about time, Jianqi signaled, and the dark guards scattered to hide.

With a flash, Jianqi leaped to sit beside the coachman on Bai Ruozhu’s carriage, which then drove forward. The Grand Princess’s men, swords in hand, chased the carriage a few dozen meters down the streets, ultimately attracting the attention of the city patrol guards, who stopped and questioned them.

Bai Ruozhu let down the curtain of the carriage and laughed, ”The Grand Princess really made a scene this time. How can she be so irrational?”

Jiang Zhihe patted her chest, still astonished, ”She really dared to order a killing in the streets? In broad daylight? Isn’t she afraid of being punished by the Capital Prefect?”

Bai Ruozhu winked at her, ”That’s why this is good. Today there will be Imperial Censors impeaching her.”
