Chapter 1561: Chapter 1561: Choose Her_1

Just three days later was an auspicious day, and the Bai Family said they would handle the wedding of Jing Lei in a simple manner. Since Luluo’s situation was special, and she also didn’t wish for a grand event, the Bai Residence became the bridegroom’s family, while the Empress Dowager’s side turned into the bride’s family. The two people getting married hadn’t even prepared anything when Lin Ping’er and the Empress Dowager were already overjoyed, as if it were their own younger generation getting married.

Bai Ruozhu saw that her parents especially enjoyed arranging such matters, and she was happy to take it easy, simply becoming a hands-off shopkeeper. However, her second brother seized the opportunity while no one was paying attention to come over.

”Father and Mother are probably practicing in advance, wanting to prepare well for my marriage,” Bai Zepei’s voice was very deep, as if getting married wasn’t a happy matter for him.

Bai Ruozhu looked at him, ”Only after Second Brother is married and has children will Father and Mother be able to truly breathe a sigh of relief.”

Bai Zepei nodded, saying, ”Today, the Emperor brought it up again, asking about my opinion. How well have you checked on my behalf, little sister?”

”Do you really want me to help you choose?” Bai Ruozhu felt that this responsibility was too heavy. Isn’t marriage usually dictated by parental decree and the matchmaker’s words? Since when does a younger sister worry about such things?

Confronted with her second brother’s deep and resolute gaze, Bai Ruozhu could only nod her head with difficulty.

The next day, she sent invitations to the Si Residence. Of course, in order not to be too obvious, she also sent invitations to Gu Xue’an, Leng Wanhua, and Jiang Zhihe, arranging for them to join her at Hua Xiangrong Beauty Salon to do beauty treatments together the following day.

Soon, the person who delivered the invitations brought back replies. Si Yihuan responded affirmatively, Gu Xue’an and Jiang Zhihe also had no issues, but only Leng Wanhua said she wasn’t feeling well and suggested to postpone it to another day.

Bai Ruozhu guessed that Leng Wanhua was on her period and naturally couldn’t speak too explicitly about it. Anyway, she intended to spend more time with Si Yihuan to see her temperament, so one less person didn’t matter.

The next day, the four met at Hua Xiangrong Beauty Salon. Fang Guizhi personally welcomed them and arranged a larger VIP room for them. They chatted and laughed over some tea and then let the maids begin their beauty treatments.

During the beauty treatments, everyone talked less. When the facial masks were removed, they complimented each other’s delicate skin and then started chatting while eating snacks.

”Zhihe is getting married soon, right? I heard that Ruozhu played matchmaker for you. Shouldn’t you toast to Ruozhu today?” Gu Xue’an said with a giggling smile.

Jiang Zhihe offered a toast to Bai Ruozhu with her tea. Fang Guizhi came over and said, ”Xue’an, Lin Gongzi also had Ruozhu’s help, didn’t he? I think she has become addicted to playing matchmaker. These past few days, she even matched Luluo with Jing Lei.”

Interested by Fang Guizhi’s words, the three ladies all wore eager expressions. Fang Guizhi briefly recounted the story of Luluo, making everyone laugh. They patted Bai Ruozhu on the back, saying, ”You’re now a matchmaker, you could even become a marriage broker when you’re older.”

Bai Ruozhu rolled her eyes, saying, ”Who says I’m getting old? I want to stay forever young,” she added, gently touching her freshly moisturized and tender cheek.

All the young ladies burst into laughter, each of them exclaiming that they too wanted to stay forever young.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at Si Yihuan and muttered, ”What matchmaker? I can’t even sort out my second brother’s affairs. It really gives me a headache. What kind of sister-in-law do you think my Second Brother should marry?”

Everyone knew about the Prime Minister’s intention to have Bai Zepei as his granddaughter’s husband. Upon hearing this, they couldn’t help laughing, and while laughing, they sneakily glanced at Si Yihuan. Unfortunately, Si Yihuan was not shy but widened her eyes, eager to hear Bai Ruozhu continue.

Fang Guizhi’s expression darkened slightly, although she quickly composed herself.

Second Brother was her first love, and her secret crush that she kept hidden deep in her heart. Although she had long clarified things, hearing that Second Brother was going to get married still made her feel somewhat downcast.

”You don’t know how many people are vying for your Second Brother. What’s there to worry about?” Gu Xue’an laughed.

Bai Ruozhu sighed deliberately and said, ”My Second Brother is totally engrossed in his studies and has a somewhat indifferent nature. I really don’t know what kind of sister-in-law would be suitable for him.”

Jiang Zhihe smiled and took up the conversation, ”I think having a plethora of talents isn’t necessarily important. What’s crucial is having a good temperament and being understanding and reasonable.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded. ”Indeed, a good temperament is crucial, as it allows for harmonious coexistence with the family. It’s only when the family is in harmony that everything can prosper.”

Si Yihuan had been quiet the whole time, but she wasn’t overly shy—in fact, her eyes shone as if she saw hope on the horizon.

After a while, Bai Ruozhu mentioned she needed to use the restroom, and Si Yihuan stood up saying she’d go too. Jiang Zhihe and Gu Xue’an exchanged glances, signaling not to disturb them; who knows, they might become sisters-in-law in the future.

Once outside the room, Bai Ruozhu said to Si Yihuan with a smile, ”Today was quite eventful; I wonder if you’re getting used to it?”

Si Yihuan replied with a smile, ”It’s great. There’s food and fun, I couldn’t be happier.”

”What hobbies do you usually have at home?” Bai Ruozhu asked further.

This time, Si Yihuan became somewhat embarrassed and said quietly, ”Thinking up new dishes for the kitchen maid to cook, and then tasting the delicacies.”

Pfft, Si Yihuan truly lived up to her foodie nature.

Suppressing a laugh, Bai Ruozhu responded, ”I also enjoy inventing new dishes. If they turn out well, I introduce them at Yingkelai for the guests to try.”

Si Yihuan’s eyes sparkled. ”I always try the new dishes at Yingkelai; I didn’t realize they were your creations.”

”Not all of them,” Bai Ruozhu chuckled. ”Next time I come up with a new dish, I can send you a portion to try in advance.” Bai Ruozhu thought, if they became family, wouldn’t Si Yihuan be one of the first to taste them?

”Of course, thank you so much,” Si Yihuan beamed with joy.

After going to the restroom and heading back, Si Yihuan suddenly lowered her voice and asked, ”Does Guizhi have feelings for your second brother?”

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback. How had Si Yihuan noticed?

Si Yihuan, looking a bit embarrassed, said, ”I didn’t mean anything by it. I just saw a momentary dip in her spirits earlier, and I feared becoming a wedge between lovebirds, so I thought about asking my grandpa not to focus on Bai Second Son.”

Bai Ruozhu had not expected Si Yihuan to be so observant. She quickly hid her surprise and said, ”That’s not the case at all. Guizhi has already found someone she’s considering. She just has to wait until after my second brother gets married, so if his marriage isn’t settled, she gets worried too.”

”I see, I misunderstood. I’m really sorry,” Si Yihuan said with an apologetic smile. Bai Ruozhu watched her eyes, seemingly sure she wasn’t fishing for answers?

As the gathering came to a casual close, Bai Ruozhu returned to the Bai Residence, still pondering the matter. She felt Si Yihuan was very astute, more attentive and intelligent than her appearance suggested, yet not a person of deep schemes. For if she were, she certainly wouldn’t have asked her directly but would have inquired covertly or perhaps tried to get closer to Guizhi to understand her thoughts.

Yet, she couldn’t help but worry; with Si Yihuan being so clever and meticulous, was she really suitable for her second brother?

Just as she was fretting over this, her second brother Bai Zepei came back from outside. She promptly pulled him aside and quietly told him about the day’s events.

After listening for a long while, Bai Zepei looked at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”It’ll be her, then.”
