Chapter 1582: Chapter 1582: This Second Brother is Not That Second Brother_1

”Wasn’t Lord Bai just saying that there would be no more courtesy?” Ma Linglong’s voice was soft, a timid look on her face as she leaned closer towards Prince Saihan, displaying an air of fragility as if she might faint at any scare. Prince Saihan looked at her with a smile, and she bashfully threw him a coquettish glance.

Bai Ruozhu felt a wave of revulsion and let out a cold laugh, ”When this officer said no more courtesy, I meant I didn’t want to waste words with you. I’ll take my leave now. If you’re not satisfied, feel free to complain about me to the Prefectural Governor of the Capital.”

Having said this, she looked towards Prince Saihan, ”It seems that Prince Saihan has found a suitable consort. I wish the two of you an early union and a lifetime of happiness.”

After finishing, she felt in a much better mood, thinking how splendid it was for such a pair, a cheating husband and an adulterous wife, to be together. The young Miss Diao Yao would certainly be safe now.

Ma Linglong feigned shyness as she spoke, ”Lord Bai mustn’t speak nonsense. Prince Saihan is simply being a gallant hero, who couldn’t bear to see a young lady being bullied.”

Prince Saihan was very pleased with Ma Linglong’s eloquence and tightened his grip on her shoulder.

Bai Ruozhu turned her head and left, making her way towards the Beauty Pavilion.

As she was approaching the Beauty Pavilion, she saw Wa San from a distance, carrying a package of dimsum and walking towards the Beauty Pavilion. She hastily called Jianqi to hail him. Feeling somewhat embarrassed upon hearing her voice, Wa San quickly walked up to Bai Ruozhu and sheepishly said, ”Miss is also here to visit Guizhi.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh, ”You seem quite heartbroken, but who knows if you can remain so attentive.”

Wa San immediately said in all seriousness, ”Miss, rest assured, no matter what, I will always treat Guizhi well, and never let her suffer or toil.”

Bai Ruozhu knew that Wa San was a man of few words, but sincere. What he said might not be the kind of grand romantic promises, but they came straight from the heart.

”Miss, I plan to ask for her hand in marriage from your family after the Mid-Autumn festival,” Wa San said, his face blushing slightly.

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”If Guizhi agrees, we have no objections.”

”That’s great, Guizhi has already agreed to me,” Wa San said excitedly.

”I will go and ask Guizhi about it later,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Wa San suddenly became bashful and handed the dimsum to Bai Ruozhu, ”Then Miss, please give the dimsum to Guizhi. I need to get back to my work.”

Bai Ruozhu took the dimsum and entered the Beauty Pavilion with her entourage.

She handed the dimsum to Guizhi, ”From Wa San.”

Guizhi’s face turned red as she quickly took the dimsum, changing the subject abruptly.

”Ruozhu, what brings you here at this hour? Business has been really good lately. Many ladies like to come here to relax, and they don’t even avoid talking around us.”

Bai Ruozhu grinned, took her hand, and went to the backyard. Then she recounted the incident where she had confronted Ma Linglong.

Guizhi showed a surprised expression upon hearing this, ”Oh my, that second wife from the Ma Family was just here the day before yesterday. She had quite a bit to say with another lady.”

”What did they talk about?” Bai Ruozhu inquired.

”The second wife of the Ma Family has been increasingly disdainful towards everything about the Ma Family, especially dismissive of the main room. She even said that the Ma Family’s main room had fallen to the point of selling their daughter, wanting to send her off for a marriage alliance with the Turkic, but then Madam Sun next to her sneered, saying isn’t the Xue Family also trying to marry their daughter to a Turkic Prince? It’s just a pity they were rejected by him.”

Fang Guizhi lowered her voice and added, ”Later, the second wife of the Ma Family mentioned that the second son from the main room has liked the Si Family’s daughter since childhood, but how could he be noticed when he has neither fame nor ability? Madam Sun, surprised, asked if it was the Si Family girl who wants to have a match with the newly ranked second place in the imperial examination? The second wife confirmed. Madam Sun laughed and said the second son of the Ma Family was indulging in wishful thinking. He doesn’t realize how far he falls short compared to the newly ranked examinee.”

Guizhi showed a hint of embarrassment, ”Actually, I didn’t hear any of this myself, it was a little maid who heard it because it concerned our household, and she secretly reported it to me. I was thinking that this matter relates to the future second sister-in-law, and it would be bad to spread such rumors, as it might damage her reputation, so I didn’t bring it up to you.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, understanding Guizhi’s concern. Guizhi had harbored an unrequited love for her second brother in the past, and if she talked about the future second sister-in-law having an admirer at this time, wouldn’t it seem like smearing Si Yihuan’s name?

Moreover, it’s not her fault that someone admires her; there’s no need to bring such matters to light.

But now, it seemed like Ma Linglong was trying to sabotage the marriage between Si Yihuan and Bai Zepei for her second brother’s sake? But even if Bai Zepei married someone else, it was not possible for Si Yihuan to marry into the Ma Family, right? It wouldn’t help her second brother at all.

”Ruozhu, do you think Ma Linglong doesn’t want Si Yihuan to marry our second brother, so her second brother still has a chance?” Guizhi asked.

All this talk of second brothers made Bai Ruozhu want to laugh; sadly, her second brother was nothing like the other second brother.

If the second son of the Ma Family truly liked Si Yihuan, he should strive even harder to achieve something and earn a reputation. How could he even think of taking a wife without any achievement?

”There might be some truth to that, but there must be other factors as well. Let’s not dwell on this; we’ll find out eventually,” Bai Ruozhu said and, with an excited face, pulled Guizhi to sit down and asked, ”Wa San said he wants to visit our home to propose after the Mid-Autumn Festival; what do you think?”

Guizhi’s face blushed, ”Let’s not rush; I’m thinking of discussing it after the new year.”

”Why? Wa San is anxious to death,” Bai Ruozhu said, laughing until her mouth almost couldn’t close.

”There’s so much to do before the year’s end, let’s talk about it after this busy period,” Guizhi said, her head lowered, ”and my wedding dress is only half embroidered; I want to do it myself.”

Upon hearing this, Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”That’s not bad, not too hasty. Then I will speak to Wa San about it later.”

Guizhi responded with a low hum, as soft as a mosquito’s buzz.

However, Bai Ruozhu noticed that although Guizhi was shy and blushing, she didn’t seem very excited or eager about getting married. Perhaps, Guizhi didn’t feel that deeply for Wa San.

Bai Ruozhu felt a bit of regret, but being able to marry the person one loves deeply isn’t always possible in life. What’s important is to find someone to share a mutual comfort.

Before she knew it, the day before Jiang Zhihe and Yu Chenghua’s wedding arrived. Jiang Yichun and Bai Ruozhu, as members of the principal family and matchmakers, were invited by Elder Madam Jiang to return to the Jiang Family early.

The two went to pay respects to Elder Jiang Ge. His spirits were much improved, and although he still had difficulty moving around, he could speak without issue. Perhaps it was also because he had retired from his official position and didn’t have to worry about as much, making him appear more benevolent.

”It’s good that you’ve come. Zhihe’s wedding requires some extra effort from you both,” Elder Jiang Ge said kindly.

Jiang Yichun, who normally had an unapproachable demeanor, softened at these words, grunting in agreement with a contained aura.

Bai Ruozhu secretly chuckled. In truth, her man wasn’t that heartless; he just cared too much about saving face. If Elder Jiang Ge had spoken kindly earlier, the two might not have fallen out, and now they appeared to be happily united.
