Chapter 1548: Chapter 1548: Gorgeous Dancing Girl_1

The Empress Dowager watched Ning Yu with a smile that grew warmer the more she looked at him, finding him likable despite his foolishness, but he was truly sincere towards her daughter.

”If you leave, what will happen to the line of the Astrology Tower? To whom will you pass the position of National Master?” the Empress Dowager suddenly asked.

Without a second thought, Ning Yu pointed at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”Isn’t my junior sister still here? In the future, the Astrology Tower will be managed by her. When I take a disciple and they finish their training, they can come and replace her.”

”Wait a minute!” Bai Ruozhu suddenly felt utterly overwhelmed, ”Ning Yu, why didn’t you mention this before? So you plan to enjoy a carefree life and leave me in the lurch? After all the help I’ve given you!”

Ning Yu chuckled twice, ”Didn’t teacher say you should take care of me? Isn’t the one who takes care of others the Sect Leader? You can be a court lady, so why can’t you be the National Master?”

”Stop right there!” Bai Ruozhu felt an indescribable frustration. Just a moment ago, she thought this lad was foolish, yet now she was the one fooled by a fool—wasn’t this mocking her intelligence?

”I can’t divine, I can’t exorcise evil—I can’t be the National Master. Master’s last wish was for me to take care of you, not to take care of the whole Astrology Tower!” Bai Ruozhu said, puffing with anger.

Ning Yu looked at Bai Ruozhu with a pleading face, ”Do you really want to see that I can’t be with Diao Bin?”

Such a question was indeed difficult for Bai Ruozhu to answer. Naturally, she wished for them to be together, but how could she be the National Master? How could she uphold the Astrology Tower? If someone came to challenge her, she simply wasn’t skilled enough.

At that moment, a figure in white rushed in, took Bai Ruozhu’s hand, and said, ”Ruozhu, please help us!”

Seeing Diao Bin run out from the Ear Room, Ning Yu’s face turned as red as could be, to the point where he almost wished he could burrow into a hole.

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, ”Great, so you two aren’t even married yet, and you’re already teaming up to scheme against me, huh? You really do think alike.”

The Empress Dowager, sitting at the head of the room, couldn’t stop laughing and said, ”Ruozhu, just agree to them. Currently, the Emperor does not rely much on the divinations of the Astrology Tower, so you shouldn’t worry too much. If anyone challenges you, just don’t accept. Do you have to fight everyone who challenges you? Wouldn’t that be beneath your dignity?”

What the Empress Dowager said made sense, but Bai Ruozhu still carefully considered and then spoke, ”How about we do this: we say outwardly that my senior brother has just assumed the position of National Master but feels his magic techniques still need refinement, so he has to focus on cultivating in seclusion. All affairs of the Astrology Tower will temporarily be managed by his junior sister—that’s me. This way, even if others disdain my strength, they can’t find much fault. If someone wants to challenge the Astrology Tower, naturally they have to wait until the senior brother who is the National Master comes out of seclusion.”

Bai Ruozhu instantly felt her method was much smarter than Ning Yu’s, ”At least with this, we can hide the truth for a few years. In a few years, if senior brother still hasn’t cultivated a successor, and my techniques possibly become presentable, then it will also make sense for you to pass the position to me.”

Ning Yu and Diao Bin exchanged glances, both finding Bai Ruozhu’s idea quite good, and they smiled gratefully at her.

The Empress Dowager was very pleased to see the affection between Diao Bin and Ning Yu, but she couldn’t help but think of the young man in white from her younger days, regretting that times had changed and they could never return to the past.

The Former Emperor treated her extremely well, and even though her heart was occupied by another, she felt reverence and gratitude towards the Former Emperor.

So, for Diao Yao, the love debt incurred by the Former Emperor in the Western Regions, she never harbored any jealousy. She had even secretly resolved to take care of this unfortunate child in place of the Former Emperor.

Having sorted out Ning Yu’s matter, Bai Ruozhu left the palace and headed home cheerfully. Not keen on riding, she walked into the alley where the Bai Residence was located, only to find many onlookers who were pointing and making comments about her family’s door.

”Jianqi, do you know what’s happening?” Bai Ruozhu didn’t rush over but first asked the dark guard beside her, Jianqi.

”Haven’t received any news yet, but it should be soon,” Jianqi cursed his subordinates for their lack of efficiency.

Fortunately, a dark guard appeared and began to report to them.

”Someone has sent two stunning dancing girls to the residence as a gift for the son-in-law, and the gatekeeper has gone to report to the old madam. The old madam ordered not to let them in. So the two dancing girls knelt at the gate crying, drawing a crowd of onlookers from the nearby area.”

”Who sent them?” Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes. Many families in the capital knew that the Bai Family didn’t take concubines, which was one of the reasons her second brother was so sought after. Yet someone was sending her man dancing girls—what did this mean? It was clearly a slap in her face.

”It was sent by the Duke of Zheng.” the dark guard replied.

Bai Ruozhu was still wondering what grudge she could have with the Duke of Zheng, when Jianqi reminded her beside her, ”The Duke of Zheng is married to Grand Princess Huilan.”

Bai Ruozhu wanted to ask more, but didn’t realize someone with sharp eyes had spotted her and called out, ”Isn’t that Lady Jiang, the master’s wife? The person in charge has arrived, let’s see how she deals with this!”

Quite a few people started to look at Bai Ruozhu, making her feel like she was being watched like a monkey, and a wave of annoyance surged within her. However, she knew that the common people were just curious and bore no malice; the real instigators were the couple of Grand Princess Huilan.

Bai Ruozhu could no longer stay at a distance and reluctantly rode her horse over, dismounted at the gate, and handed the horse over to Jianqi who was following her.

The onlookers automatically cleared a path for her, each one excitedly watching Bai Ruozhu as if trying to read her expression.

Approaching, Bai Ruozhu then saw the two weeping dancing girls kneeling on the ground, who indeed, as the dark guard had reported, were stunning beauties. Regrettably, the guard’s terse description hadn’t fully captured their distinctiveness.

The two dancing girls were wearing thin red chiffon dance dresses, through which hints of their bodies could be seen, a primary reason for the men gathered around to watch.

But what was even more surprising was that the two dancing girls were twins, almost identical in appearance. Perhaps because they had been trained together from a young age, their movements and expressions were perfectly synchronized, even while kneeling, which suggested that their dance performances together must be quite special.

Even Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help wanting to see what it would be like to watch them dance. The corners of her mouth twitched; after all, these were gifts for her man, and here she was, eager to watch them perform. Wasn’t her heart a bit too bold?

Their skin was fairer than snow, their figures graceful, with waists slender like willow branches. Kneeling there, they lacked any hint of defiance or a pitiable look—instead, they radiated charm and pity-inducing beauty.

At that moment, the girl on the left raised her hand to wipe her tears, and the girl on the right did the same simultaneously. They both raised the same hand in an incredibly synchronized manner, which immediately elicited exclamations from the onlookers.

”Look, their movements are exactly the same; it’s like they’re telepathic.”

”Wow, these are truly celestial beauties. How could the Duke of Zheng bear to give them to Lord Jiang?”

”Are you dumb? The Duke of Zheng is married to the Grand Princess; would he dare to keep them?”

”Then what do you think—will Lord Jiang dare to keep them?”

What do you all think Ruozhu will do?
