Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1511: Chapter 1612: Eye to Eye _1

Bai Ruozhu again checked the pulse of Consort Yue, who had been taking good care of herself. The fetus was in the correct position, and since she had been following Bai Ruozhu’s advice to exercise appropriately, the birth shouldn’t be too difficult.

In the afternoon, Jiang Yichun went to the Female Physicians Institution to pick up Bai Ruozhu to leave the palace together. Seeing this, the female doctors all giggled secretly. Tian Fang was the quickest-witted, making eye signals to the others, and a group of female doctors bowed to Bai Ruozhu in unison, saying, ”Safe travels, Director Bai and Director Jiang.”

Then a low laughter spread among them. Bai Ruozhu turned to glare at them, then walked away nonchalantly.

”Ah, I wanted to see our Director Bai blush, why didn’t it happen?” Tian Fang said with a disappointed face.

”Do you think Director Bai is like you, a naive young girl?” Wei Tianzhen said with a smile.

Tian Fang pouted; the younger ones hated being looked down upon, ”But Director Bai seems to be even younger than me. I really don’t know how she became so impressive.”

During this time, both the original and the newly recruited female doctors had come to greatly admire Bai Ruozhu.

Jin Yao gently said, ”Haven’t you heard? Director Bai’s medical skills were bestowed by an immortal, making her practically a disciple of the Immortal.”

Tian Fang showed a surprised expression. She really didn’t know. Could it be that the Immortal from the heavens sent Director Bai to help improve the medical art in Danliang Country for the benefit of its people?

...

Having left the palace, Jiang Yichun accompanied Bai Ruozhu onto the horse carriage. He smiled and said, ”You ladies sure are lively.”

”They’re usually so serious, I don’t know why they became so lively today upon seeing you. Could it be because our Director Jiang is too handsome? You’re causing a stir among the masses,” Bai Ruozhu teased, glancing at his sharp-featured face.

He reached out to pinch her nose, ”I’m trouble enough for you alone; I can’t shoulder the blame for leading others astray.”

After saying that, his expression darkened a bit, ”There’s news from the south. The third prince of Chengshui Country, Zhou Rui, has suddenly passed away. It seems Chengshui’s power structure will be settled now.”

Bai Ruozhu’s face turned solemn, ”Zhou Rui had always been disputing Zhou Jue’s entitlement to the Crown Prince’s position. Now that he’s gone, Zhou Jue is likely to secure his spot as the Crown Prince. Moreover, the Emperor of Chengshui is not in good health...”

”Yeah, that Zhou Jue is quite troublesome,” Jiang Yichun said, tapping his fingers on the carriage wall, seemingly lost in thought.

Bai Ruozhu was somewhat concerned, but then she thought it was not a problem, ”Once he becomes Emperor, he’ll be too busy with affairs and unable to leave the palace casually, so I don’t have to worry about him harming me. Besides, the Emperor has already agreed not to keep the Suturing Technique a secret, allowing more people to learn it, thereby reducing the danger to me.”

Jiang Yichun hummed softly in response, feeling in his heart that the deviant Zhou Jue was not someone who would easily let go. But he wouldn’t torment himself with worry—his woman, he would protect her. Nobody would be allowed to harm even a single hair on her head.

In the following days, all was calm. Bai Ruozhu privately arranged for a meeting with Jiang Zhihe at the Lai Shun Inn, and also asked for her opinion. Jiang Zhihe blushed and said, ”Okay, please kindly make the arrangements, sister-in-law.”

Bai Ruozhu thought about it and laughed, saying, ”Two days from now, at midday, have your brother invite that person to eat in the Main Hall of Lai Shun Inn. We can watch from the second floor, clearly seeing everything. I will notify the shopkeeper in advance to arrange a good seat for them.”

Jiang Zhihe’s face turned even redder, and she nodded with her head down.

Two days later, Bai Ruozhu arrived early to pick up Jiang Zhihe and Lady Jiang, taking them straight to a private room on the second floor of Lai Shun Inn.

The three ordered some food and drinks, but Lord Jiang and Jiang Zhihe weren’t really in the mood to choose dishes, so it was mostly Bai Ruozhu who made the decisions.

”Why is this person still not here? Couldn’t be that something came up and he couldn’t make it today, could it?” Lady Jiang, having heard that the person was Jiang Yichun’s choice, was very much looking forward to it.

Bai Ruozhu, stifling her laughter, said, ”Aunt, don’t worry, they have official duties, and it’s not good for them to come out for lunch before time. It’s just that Yu Chenghua’s family isn’t as well-off, and he doesn’t have any relatives in the capital to support him; I’m afraid Aunt might not be satisfied.”

Lady Jiang’s face blossomed into a smile, ”Why wouldn’t I be? His family has no relatives to care for them, and yet he managed to reach sixth-rank by the age of twenty-five. His future is naturally bright. With fewer troublesome relatives, our Zhihe will encounter fewer problems too. These past years, I’ve really been annoyed to death by all those messy relatives.”

With a secret laugh, Bai Ruozhu thought that perhaps Lady Jiang actually wanted a son-in-law who had a house, a carriage, and deceased parents?

Jiang Zhihe blushed, staying silent at the side. Bai Ruozhu deliberately teased her, nudging her with her elbow and saying, ”It seems Zhihe isn’t too pleased; we have to listen to her opinion. If she really isn’t satisfied, then there’s no point in forcing herself to consider this match.”

”No, no, let’s just meet and... talk about it then,” Jiang Zhihe’s voice was as tiny as a mosquito’s buzz, but being the legitimate daughter of a noble family, she still managed to speak up though shy.

Bai Ruozhu and Lady Jiang exchanged looks and laughed secretly, finding joy in Jiang Zhihe’s behavior, which was like that of a bashful young girl.

Now, she finally understood why that woman liked matchmaking for young girls so much; teasing a young girl seemed to be quite amusing.

At this moment, the young waiter came in and spoke softly, ”Lord Bai, Lord Jiang has arrived, and the shopkeeper has already arranged the seating as you mentioned.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded and gave him some silver as a reward, ”Well done, stay sharp later.”

She had repeatedly instructed Jiang Yichun not to reveal to Yu Chenghua that he was here for matchmaking, saying that only in this way could they see his more genuine side. Therefore, she asked the waiter to help cover for them, making sure not to expose them.

Bai Ruozhu gestured for Lady Jiang and her daughter to follow her out, and the three leaned on the railing of the second floor and talked.

Downstairs, Jiang Yichun sat with his back slightly turned away from the second floor, while Yu Chenghua, seated opposite him, exposed more than half of his face to the three ladies’ sight.

This man had eyebrows like drawn swords and starry eyes, a slightly dark complexion, and a high nose. Although he couldn’t be considered handsome, his eyes were very lively. Bai Ruozhu was also seeing Yu Chenghua for the first time, and after observing him for a good while, she found that he wasn’t stunning at first glance but was exceptionally good-looking upon closer inspection—the kind of person you appreciate more the more you look.

She covertly observed Jiang Zhihe’s reaction. She seemed somewhat embarrassed but quite curious about Yu Chenghua. It wasn’t love at first sight, but at least there was no aversion.

Jiang Yichun’s ears twitched; he naturally knew that Bai Ruozhu and the others had come out, yet his expression revealed no giveaways.

”How are the official duties these days, Chenghua? Getting the hang of them?” Jiang Yichun asked with attention to detail.

Yu Chenghua talked about work affairs with a smile. Although the three women upstairs didn’t quite understand much, they felt that he had a stable personality and talked in an unhurried manner with a voice that was clear and pleasant, not pretending to be impressive with grand speeches, nor was he as icy as Jiang Yichun. Indeed, he was just as Jiang Yichun had described—a fine young man.
