Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1519: Chapter 1519 Slippery Kid_1

With the weather growing increasingly dry and hot, Bai Ruozhu no longer wanted to visit the Female Physicians Institution at set times, after all, as the Chief Female Physician, she had certain privileges. And although several female physicians were making rapid progress, they still only performed massages and adjustments; if any noble person in the Palace fell ill, they were still treated by the Imperial Doctors from the Imperial Medical Hospital.

However, Bai Ruozhu was not in a rush, insisting that one must take it step by step when treating and saving people, being careful and precise at every stage.

Little Dengdeng, however, got up very early that day, probably because the weather was too hot, causing such a good-natured child to become restless.

”Mom, I want to see Uncle Master, I want to learn Mechanical Technique,” Little Dengdeng’s cheeks puffed up like little buns.

”Your master is busy with official duties in the Palace right now; it’s not convenient to visit him,” Bai Ruozhu said, patting her son’s head and fanning him, but Nanny Zhang quickly took the fan from her, afraid Bai Ruozhu would tire herself out.

Yet Little Dengdeng was still unsatisfied, his small eyes spinning around, ”Then I want to go to the Palace to see Grandmother Empress Dowager; she told me to visit her often.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help laughing, ”You’re pretending to do one thing but aiming for something else, smart little rascal.”

”I’m a child; I don’t drink wine,” Dengdeng said blankly, not understanding what she meant.

After breakfast, Little Dengdeng continued to chatter about the matter. As he spoke, his little mouth pouted, and tears quickly welled up in his eyes, spinning around inside them.

Nanny Zhang felt sorry for him and whispered, ”Madam, the young master really likes playing with those mechanical devices. He hasn’t grown tired of it after all these days. I have seen Mechanical Technique before, and it is truly miraculous, like relics left by immortals. Since the young master has the talent for Mechanical Technique, why don’t you let him get more exposure to it?”

Bai Ruozhu smiled helplessly, ”You all are making yourselves out to be the good ones, and if I don’t let him learn, wouldn’t I be the bad one?”

Nanny Zhang quickly made eye contact with Little Dengdeng, who covered his mouth and giggled, squeezing out the tears in his eyes. He quickly wiped them away with his little chubby hand while crying and laughing, his nose blowing big bubbles.

”Hurry up and eat your breakfast; once you’re done, Mom will take you to the Palace,” Bai Ruozhu scolded her son playfully.

”Okay, Mom, I will eat my breakfast well!” Dengdeng said, starting to eat with his little spoon. Despite his young age, he had started eating on his own when he was just over a year old. Now, he could handle a spoon very well and was also quite skilled with chopsticks, more agile than most children his age.

But considering how smoothly Little Dengdeng played with mechanical devices, using simple chopsticks was nothing to him.

After breakfast, Bai Ruozhu took Dengdeng by horse carriage to the Palace to see the Empress Dowager at Cining Palace. The Empress Dowager smiled and took Little Dengdeng’s hand, ”Dengdeng, how about Grandma takes you to see your Brother Tang Xin?”

The son of Concubine Le was bestowed upon by the Emperor the name Tang Xin, and he was now being raised with Concubine Le in Cining Palace. Tang Yin was very clear that just because a child was born did not mean they were safe. The path of growth was fraught with many hardships and dangers, and there were not a few princes who had died young.

”Empress Dowager, Dengdeng wants to first pay respects to Uncle Master,” Little Dengdeng said cautiously.

Bai Ruozhu almost burst into laughter. This little guy, who knew where he had learned it from, even knew how to speak circuitously. He was so eager to learn Mechanical Technique from Ning Yu and didn’t want to upset the Empress Dowager, so he cleverly stated it as if he knew how to be polite and follow the rules.

”It’s alright; your Uncle Master is teaching others Cultivation Technique right now, and won’t be free. Let’s first visit Brother Tang Xin, and we can go there later when it’s just the right time,” the Empress Dowager said, her face full of joy, wishing she could show her precious grandson to everyone. But for the sake of the child’s safety, she hadn’t allowed many people into Cining Palace. Now that Little Dengdeng had finally come, she was especially eager for him to see Tang Xin.

Bai Ruozhu saw Little Dengdeng was about to say something more, and she immediately glared at him. Sensing his mother’s cue, Little Dengdeng shrank his neck and said, ”Alright, Brother Xinxin must be really cute.”

Bai Ruozhu chuckled again. Her son was quite emotionally intelligent, and he was quick to change his tune.

The Empress Dowager, brimming with enthusiasm, led them to Consort Yue’s quarters. Bai Ruozhu smiled and paid her respects to Consort Yue, who had recovered nicely. Consort Yue hurriedly ordered her maids to support Bai Ruozhu, chiding her, ”Don’t be so formal in the future. You’re a great benefactor to me and Xinxin. No more of these formalities.”

”It’s what I, as a doctor, should do,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile. She stepped forward to take Consort Yue’s pulse and soon lowered her hand, remarking, ”You’re recovering very well, but you must be cautious. Accept nothing except what the Empress Dowager sends you, don’t use or eat anything else.”

Consort Yue nodded, ”I’ve taken note.”

Bai Ruozhu then advised her of a few precautions before turning her head to see Little Dengdeng amusing Prince Xin. Little Dengdeng had reached out to poke Prince Xin’s chubby cheeks and waved his hand in front of the prince, scaring the nearby Empress Dowager, who looked nervous yet dared not say anything. The scene was quite comical.

”Dengdeng, Prince Xin is still young, don’t frighten him,” Bai Ruozhu said, holding back her laughter. ”And you mustn’t touch randomly. What if you hurt him?”

”Mom, no, he likes me, look, he’s even smiling,” Dengdeng said with a face full of pride, as if he was an older brother who had won adult approval by playing with a little friend.

”Oh my, Prince Xin is actually smiling!” exclaimed the Empress Dowager with sheer delight, temporarily forgetting her decorum. She seemed just like any doting grandmother one might find in a common household, except this grandmother still looked young and beautiful.

Consort Yue followed with a laugh of her own, ”Our Prince Xin likes Little Dengdeng. This is his first smile, you know. Dengdeng, you should come to the palace more often to play with Prince Xin.”

”Sure, Auntie Consort Yue, as long as my mom is willing to bring me, you’ll have to speak to her about it,” Little Dengdeng beamed sweetly at Consort Yue, unquestionably trying to be adorable.

Consort Yue’s heart melted at the sight, and looking at Bai Ruozhu, she said, ”Ruozhu, your Dengdeng is such a good boy. Bring him to the palace more often. Even if you’re busy at the Female Physicians Institution, you can leave him with me.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled and tapped Little Dengdeng’s head, ”This little rascal is quite the trickster, I’m just worried he’ll be too mischievous.”

”Mischievous? Dengdeng is much better behaved than His Majesty was at that age. You have no idea how naughty His Majesty was, and such a troublemaker too. A touch dissatisfied, and he’d start crying and creating a ruckus. His voice was exceptionally loud since he was a child; my nanny and I were daily tormented by headaches from his noise,” the Empress Dowager cheerfully revealed the emperor’s past, much to Bai Ruozhu’s amusement who thought of sharing the tale with Achun later.

Yet Little Dengdeng was still mindful of his Master Uncle, saying when he got the chance, ”Mom, I should go to pay my respects to Master Uncle.”

Bai Ruozhu, feeling helpless, courteously informed the Empress Dowager and Consort Yue before taking him to the backyard to find Ning Yu. Upon arriving, they saw Fen Wan and Ning Yu practicing magic techniques, with Fen Wan casting glances towards Ning Yu that were bright and fervent, her face also bearing a young maiden’s bashful glow.

’Alright, you’ll have no problem after another two days of practice,’ Ning Yu said with satisfaction. ’I’ll leave you to it.’ Fen Wan was close to lifting the curse.
