Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1527: Chapter 1527: You Can’t Escape_1

The activities of the Medical Alliance were carried out smoothly, and in the following days, many more doctors joined the alliance. Almost all the doctors from the Imperial Medical Hospital and Female Physicians Institution joined, too, including Mao Xingcai, who even applied for membership. Bai Ruozhu learned of this and wanted to arrange an elder position for him, but he declined.

”I’m just older and have a bit more experience, but I really can’t handle this position. You could invite divine physicians like Yao Yuxuan to join instead,” Mao Xingcai said.

Seeing his sincerity, Bai Ruozhu did not insist further. Mao Xingcai’s words reminded her that she should personally invite these two individuals, but unfortunately, the Divine Doctor was currently traveling, so she could only visit Yao Yuxuan first.

When she went to the Yao Residence, she learned that Yao Yuxuan did not live in the bustling main residence, but in a serene manor outside the city.

Following instructions from the head steward of the Yao Family, Bai Ruozhu found the suburban manor and indeed saw Yao Yuxuan planting vegetables in a small courtyard.

”Mr. Yao, what a refined hobby you have,” Bai Ruozhu greeted him with a bow as she followed the servant who led the way.

Yao Yuxuan set down his watering can, casually wiped his hands on his clothes, and said with a smile, ”You caught me in an embarrassing moment. I thought I might as well plant some vegetables to eat during my leisure time.”

”You’re being too modest. Have you forgotten that my family is from an agricultural background? Our backyard used to be a vegetable garden, and we would pick our own vegetables to eat, always very fresh,” Bai Ruozhu replied with a smile.

”Come, let’s sit down and talk.” Yao Yuxuan smiled even more when he heard this.

The two walked over to a stone table, and the servant quickly served tea, pouring for both of them.

”What brings you here? Tell me, what’s the matter?” Yao Yuxuan took a sip of tea, ”Though I promised you I’d see a patient once, surely your medical skills don’t need my help, right?”

”I’ve established a Medical Alliance and would like to invite you to be an elder,” Bai Ruozhu said directly.

”You know I no longer see patients,” Yao Yuxuan remarked as he shook his head, ”I just want to live as a carefree person; my body can’t take it anymore.”

Having guessed he would say so on her way there, Bai Ruozhu smiled and said, ”I wouldn’t dare trouble you. The charitable clinic elders of the Medical Alliance are not required to participate. You could just give a lecture occasionally, the kind that lasts half an hour, and I promise it won’t be more than twice in six months.”

”Once, I’m a lazy man,” he said, fanning himself, ”Why is the weather so hot?”

To Bai Ruozhu’s surprise, he skipped over the part about whether he would agree and brought up the number of lectures. She couldn’t help but laugh, ”Alright, once it is.”

Where was the current Mr. Yao’s resemblance to the Yao Yuxuan who was renowned throughout the world for his unmatched medical skills in the eyes of outsiders?

”I’ll have someone bring you the elder badge tomorrow. From then on, wherever you are, if you need help, you can take the badge to the Medical Alliance for assistance. That’s an elder’s privilege,” Bai Ruozhu winked at him.

”Ha, whether I can find a branch meeting is another question altogether. Just don’t bother me too often in the future,” Yao Yuxuan laughed heartily.

Bai Ruozhu pursed her lips. Uncle, what happened to your manners? Must you be so blunt about revealing shortcomings?

”One day, the Medical Alliance will cover every corner of the continent. Just wait and see.”

Yao Yuxuan laughed louder, ”Good, that’s the spirit. Stay for lunch. I caught some fish this morning, and they’re still alive.”

”Sure,” Bai Ruozhu muttered to herself, my fish are bigger and better.

Yao Yuxuan’s servant could cook some simple home-style dishes. Soon, he called the two of them to eat. The meal was simple: a plate of steamed fish, a plate of stir-fried Green Veggies, and an omelette, but it all had a distinct taste of the countryside.

After the servant had left, Yao Yuxuan suddenly asked while eating a few bites of the food, ”Is the Empress Dowager doing well?”

”The witchcraft placed upon Princess Diao Bin has been lifted, and the concubine Yue is once again mother to an imperial grandson; she’s in very good spirits now,” Bai Ruozhu reflected, feeling somewhat emotional as she thought of Yao Yuxuan, who had yet to marry. How many men in this world could accomplish such a feat? Especially in an era where men are revered over women, and a man having multiple wives and concubines is the norm?

A smile spread across Yao Yuxuan’s face, deepening the crow’s feet at the corners of his eyes, ”That’s good to hear.”

After the meal, Bai Ruozhu bid farewell and left. The next day, she sent someone to deliver an elder badge to Yao Yuxuan and informed him that he would be lecturing at the exchange meeting next month.

”My mistress said, since it’s only once every six months, it’s best to use the opportunity as soon as possible for peace of mind,” Muyu, the one sent to run the errand, said with a grin.

Yao Yuxuan glared at him fiercely, ”It’s hot recently; I don’t want to go out.”

”My mistress also said that she would send a horse carriage with an ice basin to pick you up, ensuring you won’t sweat at all on the way,” Muyu said, even more smug, as the mistress had correctly guessed again.

”No need, I’m not going out until autumn,” Yao Yuxuan said grumpily.

”Hehe, my mistress also mentioned that once it’s over, no one else will dare to bother you. Even Pa Laohu would be impressive, and then it’s cold in winter; you can’t go back on your word,” Muyu couldn’t help but laugh, as the mistress had once again guessed what Mr. Yao was going to say.

In the end, Yao Yuxuan waved his sleeve helplessly and shooed away Muyu.

After several days, Princess Diao Bin had returned to normal, but unfortunately, just as she had surmised, her hair remained snow-white with no sign of changing back. Bai Ruozhu also wanted to help her recuperate, but since there was nothing wrong with her health now, any further treatment would be unnecessary.

Fen Wan hadn’t caused any more trouble either. Bai Ruozhu checked on her once, and she seemed wilted, as if she had suffered a great blow.

Bai Ruozhu was unsure how to comfort her and decided it was best to say nothing at all.

Upon leaving Cining Palace, Bai Ruozhu exited the palace to return home. As she walked, she heard someone shouting ahead, ”The Turkic envoy group is entering the city! I hear their prince is coming to marry one of our princesses. Hurry, let’s go watch the excitement!”

Bai Ruozhu asked the coachman to stop the carriage, got off, and said to Jianqi, ”Let’s go have a look as well.”

”Yes.”

She wanted to see what kind of person this Turkic prince was and hoped he wouldn’t be a troublesome character, especially worried that he might create a disturbance at Princess Diao Bin’s side.

Since the envoy’s caravan was passing through, all other traffic had to yield, so Bai Ruozhu told the coachman to drive the carriage home while she and Jianqi followed the crowd on foot.

Soon, they saw the Turkic envoy group from a distance. The people of the steppe were known for their rough nature, and even the leading envoys and the prince didn’t ride in horse carriages but instead rode tall, imposing horses. And because of the heat, their shirts left one shoulder exposed, causing the onlooking young women and wives to blush and avoid staring directly.

As the Turkic envoy procession drew near, Bai Ruozhu finally got a clear view of the leading Turkic prince. But in an instant, she felt as if she were in an ice cave; even during the hottest days of summer, her limbs turned cold.

It was Li Yi, the very same Li Yi who they thought they had killed!

At that moment, Li Yi looked over as well, his gaze sharp like an eagle on the steppe. Staring at Bai Ruozhu, a cold smirk appeared on his lips, and he mouthed silently to her: You can’t escape.
