Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1515: Chapter 1516: Delivering A Baby_1

At this moment, everyone held their breath, fearing they would disturb the concubine inside. Even Mao Xingcai and the others, who couldn’t enter the room, waited outside in silence. Thus, Hao Baishuang’s wailing seemed particularly jarring.

”Shut up, this is not a place for you to cry and make noise!” Mao Xingcai gritted his teeth and spoke in a lowered voice. He really didn’t want to deal with Hao Baishuang, but he was helpless as she bore the name of his disciple, which could potentially implicate him.

At this point, Mao Xingcai truly regretted it. Even if it meant offending Grand Princess Huilan, he should have rejected Hao Baishuang as his disciple.

Hao Baishuang was crying weakly, sobbing and saying in distress, ”Bai Ruozhu holds a grudge against me, fearing that I will overshadow her. She disregarded Concubine Yue’s safety and even attacked me. Is there no law left?”

”I do have a grudge against her, and I admittedly hurt her in a moment of impulse once, but haven’t I been punished by the Government Office already? No man is perfect; I have reformed. Why do you still oppress me with that matter?” Hao Baishuang’s voice grew even more pitiful as she wept louder.

The Empress Dowager inside the Room frowned and said, ”This is troublesome. Someone, get rid of her.”

Bai Ruozhu stood up and said, ”Empress Dowager, let me go clarify things with her. Moreover, simply driving her away is letting her off too easily.”

”Oh, alright then.” The Empress Dowager was taken aback by Bai Ruozhu’s fierce manner earlier, and the image of Bai Ruozhu walking out to kick Hao Baishuang flashed through her mind, causing her to shiver involuntarily.

Bai Ruozhu walked unhurriedly into the Yard and looked at Hao Baishuang, who was collapsed on the ground, weeping pitifully, and burst into laughter.

Hao Baishuang was not young anymore. She was Du Zhongshu’s maternal aunt and considerably older than him—in fact, she was at least thirty-five. Yet, she had never married, and it was unclear whether it was due to her pride or if she simply hadn’t met a suitable match.

A thirty-five-year-old woman sitting on the ground crying in such a wronged manner, when she usually carried herself with a serious demeanor, was indeed a scene that made it hard not to laugh.

”Do you think that just because you believe you have reformed, others must forgive you and see you in a good light?” Bai Ruozhu asked with a cold laugh, ”And do you really think you’re faultless, that I kicked you out simply because I hold a personal grudge, or because I fear you’d steal my limelight?”

”Isn’t that so? My specialty is in gynecology, which is why Yu Hongxiu sought me out during her childbirth. You had confirmed my medical skills back then. Now you say I’m inadequate; isn’t that contradicting yourself?” Hao Baishuang said as she continued to cry, looking utterly wronged.

”Since there’s no emergency now, let me clarify a few things. First, you think your massage technique is good and wanted to manipulate the fetus into the pelvis through massage on your own accord, but did you consult with the Hospital Director? Or did you even ask me, the one who has been treating Concubine Yue all this time?” Bai Ruozhu snorted coldly, ”I am the chief physician. You made decisions without my consent. Who’d be responsible if something went wrong?”

When Hao Baishuang tried to argue, Bai Ruozhu immediately cut her off, ”You are so foolish that you still don’t understand what you did wrong. Concubine Yue’s amniotic fluid had already broken. You could manipulate the fetus into the pelvis by rubbing her abdomen, but what about the fluid? How would the fetus breathe? Who would bear the risk for that?”

”Second, the situation was urgent at that time, and preparations for the next steps needed to be made in advance. I was reporting the prescription to the female doctor, but you interrupted me, insisting I was not considering Concubine Yue’s condition. By dragging me into an argument with you, are you putting the patient’s well-being first? Kicking you out was letting you off easy. Someone like you doesn’t deserve to stay in the Imperial Medical Hospital!”

After she finished speaking, she looked at Mao Yanshi, ”Dismiss this female doctor, and don’t let her enter the palace ever again.”

Mao Yanshi did not object either. He turned to Hao Baishuang and said, ”You ask anyone here, if at that time they could have been in the room, no one would have interrupted Overseer Bai while prescribing the medicine. Even if there was great resentment, they would prioritize treating the distinguished person first and settle scores slowly afterward. But look at what you’ve done? Consort Le had just gotten a bit better, and you’re here crying and wailing, what if you disturbed Her Highness? I can’t protect you, nor do I want to. You don’t have to come to the Imperial Medical Hospital ever again!”

Hao Baishuang looked at Mao Yanshi in disbelief, ”Master, I am your disciple, are you really taking their side?”

”I side with justice, not relatives!” Mao Yanshi was so angry that his face turned red. To get such a disciple at his age made him feel like he had lost all face.

Hao Baishuang wanted to say more, but Bai Ruozhu directly said to the guard beside her, ”Throw this woman out of the palace, don’t let her disturb Her Highness’s rest!”

Two guards lifted Hao Baishuang and walked out. Hao Baishuang even started shouting wildly, and one of the guards knocked her out by hitting her neck and dragged her away.

When Bai Ruozhu returned to the room, Consort Le said with a flushed face, ”You were right, I shouldn’t have let other people treat me carelessly. You are my chief physician, and I should listen to you. I was just scared earlier, and when she came in, I forgot all that.”

”Your Highness, don’t speak like that. If it was an emergency, it would have been right to let other doctors treat you, but her approach was inappropriate, and she interrupted me. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been a big deal,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile. Consort Le, like the Empress Dowager, had a gentle nature. If it had been other consorts, who would apologize to Bai Ruozhu?

Bai Ruozhu then drew up some plans and had the palace craftsmen quickly make a flat-bottomed chamber pot. She explained to Consort Le how to move when it was convenient. Very little amniotic fluid was leaking.

Later, Bai Ruozhu had someone bring Consort Le some porridge to replenish her strength and gave her another round of acupuncture to induce labor. The baby’s position was gradually moving down, but it still wasn’t time for delivery.

By the time of the evening lamp lighting, the Emperor had also rushed over, even went to see Consort Le, spoke a few words to comfort her, and then asked Bai Ruozhu about the situation. Bai Ruozhu answered each question, and only then did the Emperor feel relieved, but he did not leave Cining Palace that night.

Bai Ruozhu also unexpectedly discovered something—that the Emperor’s feelings for Consort Le were extraordinary, or one might even say that Consort Le was the true love of the Emperor!

That look in his eyes, that nervous expression was definitely not faked, and it certainly wasn’t just out of concern for the child. Because of this discovery, Bai Ruozhu’s impression of the Emperor improved a bit—he wasn’t heartless after all.

That night, Bai Ruozhu had several female doctors take turns on duty. She also took turns resting on the soft lounge, but she still had to perform acupuncture every two hours, so she hardly closed her eyes all night.

By the break of dawn the next day, Bai Ruozhu asked the maids to warm up the labor-inducing medicine from last night and administered a small half dose to Consort Le.

Everyone was holding their breath, even wishing they could bear the child for Consort Le. Finally, after more than half an hour of taking the medicine, Consort Le started to feel labor pains...
