Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1547: Chapter 1547: A Marriage Proposal That Makes You Laugh Till Your Stomach Hurts_1

The Empress felt some impatience in her heart and gave Hao Baishuang a cold glance, saying, ”Vice Officer Hao, the rules of the Palace cannot be abandoned. You keep calling Chief Doctor Bai by name, which is truly disrespectful. If others were to hear it today, I would have no choice but to punish you.”

Hao Baishuang was stunned, was the Emperor not going to stand up for her?

”I have assigned you that position, and you should handle any issues yourself. Otherwise, how can I see your capabilities?” said the Empress, her face growing colder. She needed to report every little thing and sought the Empress to make decisions, was she supposed to exhaust herself with this all day long?

Besides, Hao Baishuang wasn’t her person.

The Empress wasn’t foolish; the person of Grand Princess Huilan could never become her ally, she couldn’t bring trouble upon herself.

In the end, Hao Baishuang left Yong’an Palace with a sullen demeanor, feeling extremely angry and thinking the Empress was too timid. She could only seek help from Grand Princess Huilan now.

By the time Hao Baishuang returned to the Female Physicians Institution, Bai Ruozhu was already gone, and although she tried to win over the other female doctors, regrettably, no one paid her any attention.

Having no choice, she turned to flip through a register by the side, only to have Wei Tianzhen speak up, ”Vice Officer Hao, that register belongs to our group, it would be best for you not to casually look through it.”

Hearing this, Hao Baishuang felt displeased, ”Why can’t I, a dignified vice officer of the Female Physicians Institution, look at it? Also, you should address me as Officer Hao.”

Wei Tianzhen and others nearby, including Tian Fang, laughed. Tian Fang, who had a straightforward way of speaking, said, ”Vice Officer Hao, you don’t hold an official title, how can you be addressed as an officer? Wouldn’t that mess up the hierarchy? You’re a vice officer, that’s true, but we are directly managed by Chief Doctor Bai. Whatever you want to do, you should still seek Chief Doctor Bai’s permission first.”

Wei Tianzhen quickly stepped forward and snatched the register back.

Even the eldest among them, Jin Yao, looked down on Hao Baishuang and hurriedly gathered up the register she was recording in.

In truth, Wei Tianzhen and Jin Yao both knew that Bai Ruozhu was intentionally training the two of them to be her deputies. Bai Ruozhu had mentioned that she would be busy and intended to have the two take over the responsibilities of the Female Physicians Institution, and they were not in competition but rather managed different groups in a complementary relationship.

So the two of them were diligent in their studies, but never expected a vice officer like Hao Baishuang to be dropped in from above. They would be pleased to see that only if ghosts existed.

Seeing that everyone was excluding her, Hao Baishuang left the Palace in a huff, flinging her sleeves in anger.

...

Meanwhile, Bai Ruozhu had gone to the Astrology Tower. On one hand, she wanted to read some books, and on the other, she also wanted to ask about Ning Yu’s plans.

But the moment she saw Ning Yu, she couldn’t help but be startled. Ning Yu’s hair was as messy as a chicken’s nest, and he had two large, dark circles under his eyes, which were filled with bloodshot veins.

”What has happened to you? You look like you’ve gone completely mad with obsession,” Bai Ruozhu glared at him fiercely. The National Master had been wise to leave Ning Yu in her care before he died; the boy truly was single-minded.

Ning Yu chuckled twice and pulled out several folded sheets of paper from his bosom, then spread them out for Bai Ruozhu to see. ”I’ve written it all down, take a look, will it do?” he asked.

The corner of Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched. She had only asked him to show his determination to the Empress Dowager and seek permission to marry the princess, how did it turn out like a Guarantee Letter?

Upon reading the content, she could not help but burst out laughing.

The beginning was with the lines, ”Guan guan go the ospreys, on the isle in the river. The modest, retiring, virtuous, young lady: for a gentleman, a good mate she.”

The following part detailed his admiration for Princess Diao Bin, and some of the phrases were so cheesy that Bai Ruozhu really couldn’t help it; the more she read, the more she wanted to laugh, until she eventually burst into laughter.

After that, it was a guarantee that he would be good to Diao Bin, but Ning Yu was a pragmatic child. He felt that empty promises were useless, so he began to talk about his future plans, even listing his assets—how much land he had here, how many manors there—and what kind of business he planned to do with the princess after they got married, along with several options for her to choose from. In the end, he made Bai Ruozhu laugh till she cried.

It was the first time she had ever seen someone write such a detailed proposal for a marriage. Ning Yu was definitely a talent.

Ning Yu, his face red all the way to his neck from Bai Ruozhu’s laughter, said with embarrassment, ”I’m not good with words, I definitely wouldn’t be able to explain clearly, so I thought it was better to write it down for the Empress Dowager to see, to avoid me getting nervous and saying the wrong thing.”

Bai Ruozhu suddenly really wanted to see the Empress Dowager’s reaction to this marriage proposal, and she couldn’t help but burst into laughter again.

”Then you need to hurry up, otherwise, if you disappear without a word, people who don’t know any better might think you’ve had second thoughts and don’t want to marry Diao Bin,” Bai Ruozhu teased.

Ning Yu jumped up in an instant, ”Then let’s go now. I don’t have any Elders or relatives; will you represent my master and act as my family instead?”

Interested in watching the fun, Bai Ruozhu naturally agreed.

So, Ning Yu, the silly child, really took that marriage proposal to meet the Empress Dowager, and Bai Ruozhu followed behind, not speaking a word. She was simply trying too hard to hold back her laughter, thinking that Diao Bin’s life with this fool would be quite amusing.

”Empress Dowager, your servant, your servant...,” Ning Yu, true to form, stumbled over his words as soon as he began speaking, and then he hastily unfolded the stack of papers and began to read from them.

”Lovely magpie upon the river isle, with you my heart is found; a fair and graceful lady, for whom a gentleman’s favor is sound. This humble man, Ning Yu, aged twenty, a direct disciple of the Astrology Tower’s National Master, has developed an affection for Princess Diao Bin, thus wishing...”

He had written four pages, but by the time he was only halfway through the first page, the Empress Dowager was already laughing uncontrollably. However, considering he was her future son-in-law, she had to save his face, right? So, the Empress Dowager was also suffering.

Ning Yu’s face turned as red as a monkey’s butt as he continued reading, while outside, a number of palace maids had gathered to eavesdrop, led by Hao Mu, of course.

Hao Mu, covering her mouth, laughed uncontrollably. When Bai Ruozhu turned her head and saw her, Hao Mu hurriedly ducked away and then sneaked her head out again, mouthing to Bai Ruozhu, ”I’ll go call the princess.”

Hao Mu went to find Diao Bin and even started reciting with Ning Yu’s tone. Diao Bin’s face instantly grew hot. She insisted she didn’t want to go, but Hao Mu was determined to drag her into the commotion, pulling her all the way to the Ear Room in the front hall, and having her hide and eavesdrop from the side.

After all this delay, Ning Yu was still not done reading, but he had already moved on to the plans for married life.

Diao Bin listened spellbound, envisioning the life ahead for the two of them—not as princess and National Master but just as a free-spirited ordinary couple.

While everyone was laughing uncontrollably, Princess Diao Bin cried. However, she was laughing through her tears, her heart filled with emotion.

Finally, Ning Yu finished reading the Guarantee Letter, and the Empress Dowager found it amusing but also touching. She looked at Ning Yu with even more fondness.

”It is rare for a young man to put in so much thought, we approve!”

Ning Yu almost jumped up in excitement, and for a moment, he didn’t know what to do. He turned to look at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”Did you hear that? The Empress Dowager agrees to marry Diao Bin to me!”

Bai Ruozhu gave him an amused look and said, ”Aren’t you going to express your thanks?”

Only then did Ning Yu come to his senses. He knelt down with a thud and bowed deeply to the Empress Dowager, ”Thank you, Your Majesty, for your great kindness!”
