Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1509: Chapter 1610: Don’t Want to Marry Far Away_1

”Not that Elder Jiang Ge is heartless or ungrateful, but you all are insatiable,” Bai Ruozhu said sternly and loudly, ”As relatives, it’s a kindness to take care of you, and it’s also right not to. He has taken care of you for so many years, yet you don’t appreciate it and repay kindness, becoming like parasites, idle without aspiration. Otherwise, why would you be so agitated about dividing the family? Even ordinary siblings divide their family, why aren’t you willing? Giving half to your family is already soft-hearted enough.”

”Of course, you’re not in pain when you stand and talk. You have so much money, yet you still fight with me for a share; you should return your part and let us divide it!” Jiang Xuebin shouted angrily.

”Old Mr. Jiang has decided to give it to Achun. Why should we not accept it? If you’re dissatisfied, you can leave with nothing. The inheritance has nothing to do with having money or not. Even if I take my share and give it away, I don’t want to cheapen you parasites!” Bai Ruozhu was no longer in the mood to be polite to them.

Jiang Xuebin and Dou Ning’s families, both furious, rushed toward Bai Ruozhu, looking like they were going to attack. However, before they got close, they felt a surge of Qi, and the ones in front, Madam Dou and Dou Xingde, were flung out, lying on the ground, whining and unable to get up.

”This... this is attempted murder!” Jiang Xuebin’s wife screamed.

”Daring to assault a fourth-rank officer of the Imperial Court, by the law, warrants twenty heavy strikes. Do you want to try?” Jiang Yichun’s voice resounded coldly, his gaze like the chill of winter, freezing those who met it.

Madam Dou and the others came back to their senses, not daring to rush forward again but instead sat on the ground and started sobbing heavily. Elder Jiang Ge massaged his temples and said, ”No matter how much you fuss, the family must be divided today.”

He then called the steward to bring the account books, and they reported the family’s assets. Bai Ruozhu was taken aback by how poor the Jiang Family really was, but Jiang Xuebin and Dou Ning were fiercely contending over it!

Both parties continued arguing, and it took over half an hour to finally settle the division. Jiang Xuebin and Dou Ning were clearly dissatisfied, but Elder Jiang Ge was adamantly firm this time, and they could only lower their heads.

”Alright, everyone, go back to your respective homes. I’m tired too and need to rest,” Elder Jiang Ge waved them off, signaling for them to disperse.

But once they stepped out of Elder Jiang Ge’s room, Madam Dou started cursing, saying Bai Ruozhu and his family had no shame. Jiang Yichun, with a cold expression, instructed Muyu, ”You have sharp ears. If you hear anyone daring to curse me and my wife again, don’t mind giving them face, send them straight to the Government Office for trial!”

No one doubted that Jiang Yichun was merely bluffing, as his recent ruthlessness was enough to tell. Therefore, everyone quieted down.

Jiang Xuebin and Dou Ning both left, and Jiang Xuexiang invited Bai Ruozhu and his spouse to sit in the hall for a while.

”Ruozhu, Yichun, Zhihe’s marriage has been arranged, the betrothal will be presented in the next few days, and I plan to choose a date for the wedding in six months,” Jiang Xuexiang said.

Jiang Zhihe was no longer young, and it was time for her to be engaged. Bai Ruozhu glanced quietly at Jiang Zhihe, only to see her looking shy like a little girl, prompting Bai Ruozhu to inwardly laugh, finding that girls in ancient times blushed all too easily.

The candlelight flickered, suddenly stretching longer, and Bai Ruozhu could now clearly see Jiang Zhihe’s actual expression. She wasn’t shy as she hung her head; it was clearly an appearance of holding back tears.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart stirred, and she turned to ask Jiang’s wife, ”Great Aunt, may I ask which family’s son is matched with Zhihe?”

”It’s the third son of the Wu Family from the Northern Wei Prefecture’s Tribunal, said to be dignified and mild-mannered, surely he will get along well with Zhihe,” Jiang’s wife spoke, but her expression lacked real joy.

”Northern Wei Residence isn’t in the north, and it’s about a ten-day journey from Capital City, isn’t it? Why marry Zhihe off so far away?” Bai Ruozhu furrowed her brows, no wonder Jiang Zhihe was unhappy, the Jiang family already had so few descendants, and now she was to marry far away, it would be strange if she was happy.

Lady Jiang showed a look of embarrassment on her face, ”A journey of about ten days is not too far, I could even visit her often. For a woman, where she marries is not important, what matters is that the family she marries into is good.”

Bai Ruozhu frowned even more deeply, ”Being so far away, you haven’t even met the people from the Wu Family, right? How can you fully trust just the words of a matchmaker?”

At this moment, Jiang Zhihe had already started to cry, she tried her best to restrain herself and dared not wipe her tears, but the faint sound of her sniffing still revealed her emotions.

Lady Jiang looked even more embarrassed and said to Jiang Zhihe, ”Zhihe, go back to your room and continue embroidering your wedding dress, don’t keep delaying.”

Jiang Zhihe curtseyed and retreated.

Jiang Yihong looked angerly at his mother and said, ”Mother, second sister doesn’t want to marry into the Wu Family at all, let’s call off this marriage.”

”Great Aunt, what is really going on?” Jiang Yichun asked with a cold face.

”Zhihe is throwing a childish tantrum, she doesn’t want to leave Capital City, but all those rumors that were wildly circulated did affect her reputation to some extent, and it’s not suitable for her to marry into a family in the city anymore. What if her husband’s family harbors resentment later on?” Lady Jiang shook her head, ”I am her mother, would I harm her?”

”Dou Ning and his family will get their comeuppance sooner or later,” Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes. Her not taking action now did not mean that she was soft-hearted. She would wait until Dou Ning and Jiang Xuebin were kicked out of the Jiang Family before dealing with them, so they wouldn’t have an excuse to stay.

”Great Uncle, Great Aunt, please call off Zhihe’s marriage. I will find a good family for her in Capital City myself, I promise she won’t suffer,” Jiang Yichun suddenly spoke up, his face stern and voice low, commanding belief.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t expected Jiang Yichun to suddenly take on this matter, and it startled her. She had thought about helping Jiang Zhihe, but after all, the girl had parents, and she didn’t dare to recklessly take on such a task. Moreover, she didn’t know which family in Capital City would be truly suitable for Jiang Zhihe. But Jiang Yichun had confidently taken on the responsibility.

She started to worry, not because she feared that Achun wouldn’t handle the matter well and tarnish his reputation, but because she feared failing to arrange a suitable match for Jiang Zhihe and thus delaying the young lady’s happiness.

”How could we possibly trouble you with this?” Jiang Xuexiang hesitated to say.

Lady Jiang shook her head as well, ”Let’s not consider Capital City. In the past few days, Dou Yun’s mother has been spreading all manner of chaos, ruining both Zhihe’s and my reputations.”

”Since that’s the case, there’s no need for us to worry about their reputations anymore,” Jiang Yichun said with a cold expression.

Lady Jiang was stunned for a moment but then regained her composure and said, ”Let it go, after all, Dou Yun is just a child, let’s not drag her into this anymore.”

Bai Ruozhu saw her sincerity and her previous act wasn’t for show, her impression of Lady Jiang improved somewhat. Initially, she had been harsh, fearing Jiang Yichun and the others would return to the Jiang Family, but as they interacted, they seemed to be on the same side, becoming more polite. But actually, thinking about it, she might have been tough-mouthed, but she wasn’t bad-hearted, which was much better than Madam Dou who had slandered someone’s daughter’s reputation.
