Chapter 1535: Chapter 1535: A Che Yaojin Appears Midway_1

Bai Ruozhu realized it was already too late to retreat when she saw Prince Saihan stride over with a smug expression, saying, ”Chief Doctor Bai, we meet again. A chance encounter is more valuable than a planned meeting, don’t you think? Why not be the hostess and treat me to a meal?”

”I have official duties to attend to shortly and really cannot afford the delay. Let’s reschedule for another day,” Bai Ruozhu replied with a standard official ceremony.

Saihan took a step forward, fixing his gaze on her eyes and said, ”I’ve heard that my fiancée, Princess Diao Bin, has contracted a bizarre illness. I, as the prince, would like to inquire about her condition from Chief Doctor Bai. Surely, the matter of our countries’ alliance is not less important than your official duties?”

He emphasized the word ”official duties” heavily, his eyes filled with a teasing glint, clearly suggesting that he did not believe Bai Ruozhu’s excuse.

Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”Then let’s please go inside.”

The shopkeeper carefully led them to a private room upstairs, and with Jianqi by her side as her protector, all was still well.

Once the shopkeeper had left, Bai Ruozhu fixed her eyes on Saihan and said, ”Li Yi, haven’t you had enough? Do you really intend to marry Princess Diao Bin? She is your own blood sister, isn’t this incest?”

The smile faded from Saihan’s face, and after casting a glance at the assenting Jianqi in the room, he narrowed his eyes and said, ”You really don’t hide anything from your personal guard, do you? I’m quite curious about the nature of your relationship.”

”Presumptuous!” Jianqi bellowed angrily.

Bai Ruozhu raised her hand to stop Jianqi. Li Yi was just trying to provoke her into anger, and she would not fall for his ploy. What good could come from the mouth of such a man?

”What need is there to fixate on your own sister to secure your position in Turkic?” Bai Ruozhu pressed on with her initial question.

Saihan burst into laughter, looking at Bai Ruozhu as if looking at a fool, and said, ”We Turkic people have none of your restrictive rules. To preserve our bloodline, marriage between blood siblings is not unheard of, so marrying Princess Diao Bin would be more than fitting for me.”

Bai Ruozhu was so furious she felt like committing murder. What did he mean by saying marriage between siblings was not unheard of? The man was simply perverse, and what followed made her explode with rage.

”Princess Diao Bin is quite attractive, and her temperament is like a meek lamb’s. I imagine she would very much suit my taste in bed. When the marriage is set, I shall thoroughly enjoy subduing that little lamb,” Saihan said, laughing even louder.

Not just Bai Ruozhu, but even Jianqi was enraged. Who was this person in front of them? He was nothing but a lunatic, a madman!

”No point in wasting words on the disagreeable. I take my leave,” Bai Ruozhu said and turned to leave. However, Saihan chased after her, attempting to grab her. Jianqi moved to intercept, and the two began to fight.

Bai Ruozhu laughed in her fury, ”Well done, Li Yi. Do you really think that by changing your identity, nobody would dare to deal with you? Push me to the edge, and you’ll never be able to return to Turkic!”

”I’m quite keen to push you to that edge and see how you plan to keep me here,” Saihan said with a sinister smirk.

The shopkeeper outside heard the commotion and came running, but he didn’t dare to rush into the private room, anxiously pacing outside. At this moment, a middle-aged man ascended to the second floor, and upon seeing the shopkeeper, asked, ”Is your boss, Bai, inside?”

”Yes, Sir, please hurry and help!” The shopkeeper recognized the newcomer as the Mr. Gao who was acquainted with Bai Ruozhu, as though he had seen a savior.

Gao Zhou nodded and charged into the private room, flinging his fan straight at Prince Saihan.

”How dare you, audacious rogue, to lay hands on my friend Bai here? Leave at once!” Gao Zhou’s voice boomed like a bell. The fan he threw generated a gust, causing Saihan to stagger backward, coughing up a mouthful of blood.

”Who are you? Why do you meddle so broadly?” Prince Saihan gritted his teeth. He hadn’t expected a Che Yaojin to emerge out of nowhere. Even though he dared not truly harm Bai Ruozhu, he had fancied scaring her a bit, perhaps beating her bodyguard Jianqi half to death. After all, Bai Ruozhu held an official title, not Jianqi, but to his surprise, he ended up being the one taught a lesson!

”Do you even deserve to know? Now scram, you’re nothing!” Gao Zhou said as he reached for the chopsticks on the table and, with a flick of his hand, threw them at Prince Saihan.

The bamboo chopstick turned into a sharp beam, shooting rapidly towards Prince Saihan. This time, he was prepared and swiftly dodged, but it was still an extremely embarrassing scene for him. The chopstick didn’t hit Prince Saihan, instead, it shot into the wall behind him, burying half of the stick into the wall.

Prince Saihan’s eyes narrowed as he leapt out the window in a flash. A chorus of shocked cries rose from the street below as Prince Saihan, who fell from above, startled many pedestrians.

Bai Ruozhu let out a huge sigh of relief and thanked Gao Zhou with a bow, ”Senior, you’ve helped me once again. I really don’t know how to express my gratitude.”

Gao Zhou chuckled, ”It was just a matter of throwing something at hand, it’s not worthy of thanks. But who was that person? He looked like one of the Turkic people.”

At that moment, the shopkeeper rushed in, his face full of shame, ”Officer Bai, I was useless and couldn’t help. Are you alright?”

”It’s fine; he just wanted to scare me. You’ve even informed Senior Gao, how can you say you didn’t help?” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

The shopkeeper wiped the sweat from his forehead and also thanked Gao Zhou. Bai Ruozhu quickly explained to Gao Zhou, ”The person just now was Prince Saihan from the Turkic Country; he’s here for a marriage alliance.”

”Ah? A prince, you say?” Gao Zhou exclaimed, his face showing a bitter smile, ”If I knew he was a prince, I would’ve gone easier on him. If he had died, I couldn’t compensate for it. How did you offend the prince from Turkic Country, though?”

Gao Zhou’s question was unintentional, but Bai Ruozhu didn’t know where to start explaining. Fortunately, the shopkeeper eagerly said, ”Master Gao, you don’t know, but a few days ago, this prince from Turkic Country provoked Officer Bai’s husband at a palace banquet and even challenged Mr. Jiang to a competition of swordplay. Unfortunately, he was defeated in front of everyone. Incapable of surpassing Mr. Jiang in martial arts, he turned his trouble towards Officer Bai.”

”How absurd!” Gao Zhou glared, ”This prince from Turkic doesn’t behave like a man at all. Had I known this, I would have beaten him until he was searching for his teeth on the ground.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh out loud. This senior was really amusing; he had just regretted being too hard on him, and now he was saying he hadn’t been hard enough - such a quick change.

Seeing Bai Ruozhu laughing at him, Gao Zhou felt a bit embarrassed as he stroked his beard. Bai Ruozhu, still smiling, asked, ”Senior, you’re not afraid of him being a prince anymore?”

”Psh, what’s to fear about some barbarian land’s prince? They don’t understand etiquette and manners; they need to be taught a lesson,” Gao Zhou said proudly as he stretched his neck.

Bai Ruozhu’s smile grew wider; she felt less wary and more fond of the mysterious elder before her.

”Senior, now that you’re here, let me, the younger generation, play host and treat you to a meal,” Bai Ruozhu offered.

”Good, I was here to dine anyway,” Gao Zhou responded cheerfully upon hearing the invitation. He glanced at Jianqi and said, ”Have your bodyguard join me for a drink.”

Without waiting for Bai Ruozhu to speak, Jianqi bowed to Gao Zhou and replied, ”Certainly, I will keep you company to the end.”
