Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Xia Jinyuan felt helpless about his girlfriend’s honesty and sighed, ”If Third Brother knew you ignored everyone else, it would break his heart.”

”I won’t let Third Brother find out.” Ye Jian smiled and winked, ”If I don’t say anything and you don’t say anything, Third Brother will never know. Speaking of which, is Third Brother also coming home for the Spring Festival this year?”

”I’m not sure, all I need to know is that my future father-in-law is coming back. Before you came down today, you talked to Old Man Xia about us extending our vacation and asked if my future father-in-law would come back for the Spring Festival this year. Old Man Xia then called to ask, and it was a security guard who answered, telling him that my future father-in-law would be on leave. At that moment, I felt like God was on my side.”

Xia Jinyuan decided not to keep her in suspense, and seeing Ye Jian’s immediate relief, he glared at her with a mix of annoyance and amusement, ”Are you really that afraid of me bringing up the engagement to my future father-in-law?”

Without disguising her feelings, Ye Jian nodded in reply, ”I am a bit afraid. You know my father plans to keep me at home until I’m twenty-seven or twenty-eight. If you suddenly bring up engagement, I genuinely worry my father will whip you with a belt.”

”As long as my future father-in-law agrees, I’d be willing to be whipped ten times.” Taking advantage of the red light, Xia Jinyuan reached over and ruffled Ye Jian’s hair, ”Baby, I really can’t wait to marry you now.”

”If you have the chance, you would definitely discuss it with my father in advance.” Ye Jian was certain of this, because the man beside her never picked a battle he couldn’t win.

”Of course, I would ask my future father-in-law in advance, I wouldn’t overstep anyone, especially not my future father-in-law.” Xia Jinyuan had never thought to play any tricks in front of his future father-in-law, because, he was very aware, that any slight scheming on his part would lead to unbearable consequences.

For example... if they could get engaged after another four or five years, that would also be fine!

Xia Jinyuan had a deep understanding of how formidable his future father-in-law could be. A soft knife that slowly cuts, grinding you down until you’re quaking in fear, and then, with a smile, he would sheathe the knife and say, ”Just kidding,” leaving you so scared you nearly wet yourself, all the while maintaining his refined and graceful demeanor.

Such prowess was truly fearsome.

Seeing the remnants of trepidation on his face, Ye Jian, sitting in the passenger seat with one hand supporting her forehead, laughed until she couldn’t contain herself.

They left in the morning and returned at nightfall, driving up the mountain road that wound through the silence, surrounded by a vast expanse of white snow. In the expensive capital city, Dan Gui Garden felt like a paradise.

The entire Dan Gui Garden was exceptional in its stillness. Passing several villas, each household was quiet, with red lanterns hanging outside their doors, casting a festive glow that faintly diminished the night’s austerity.

A car approached from the front, and as the two vehicles passed side by side, Xia Jinyuan, focused on driving and talking to Ye Jian, did not notice who the other driver was.

Qin Xiu, however, saw Xia Jinyuan in the light of the headlights, slowing down his speed also let him see Ye Jian in the passenger seat, smiling like a blossoming flower.

Qin Xiu’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, recalling what Qin Ying had said during the day, he let out a barely audible sigh within the car, filled with a bitter taste.

As his sister had said, if it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be, harboring it in one’s heart is futile.

The cars passed each other, driving off in opposite directions, just like Qin Xiu and Ye Jian, destined to be an unrequited love on Qin Xiu’s part, never to bear fruit.

”It’s getting late now, I won’t go in and disturb Grandpa Gen. You should rest early.” Xia Jinyuan kissed Ye Jian’s forehead and then pecked her lips firmly.
