Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Ye Jian looked around and still felt that kissing him in such a public place... she would need a little courage to do so.

”If you don’t kiss me now, we’ll really start drawing too much attention standing here,” Xia Jinyuan said, his eyes brimming with amusement as he looked around, trying to find an opportunity to kiss his girlfriend. ”In the few seconds you’ve hesitated, you could have already kissed me.”

Ye Jian bit her lip, thinking that whether she leaned in for a kiss or pulled back, a kiss was still needed. She decided to make it quick and not to stand in the middle of the road like a roadblock. After all, she was kissing her own boyfriend, not someone else. What was there to be shy about? There was nothing to be embarrassed about!

Ye Jian tiptoed and quickly gave Xia Jinyuan a kiss, yes, just one kiss. After the kiss, she immediately pretended to be calm and took Xia Jinyuan’s arm, leading him forward: ”Let’s go, let’s keep shopping.”

Xia Jinyuan let out a delighted laugh, his voice full of indulgence: ”Okay, let’s keep shopping. You’re walking so fast, where are we going next? You lead the way?”

”We’re buying you some clothes.” Ye Jian looked around and thought for a moment, then her eyes lit up as if she’d thought of something, ”I’ve got it, we’re going shopping for your clothes. Do they have couple outfits? Matching colors would also work, we could wear matching outfits!”

Xia Jinyuan laughed even more, ”We wear matching outfits every day in the team.”

”That’s different, we haven’t worn them casually before.” After saying this, she pulled Xia Jinyuan into the elevator, heading straight for the men’s section upstairs.

”We should definitely take a good look. On the day of our engagement, we should dress sharp,” Xia Jinyuan followed Ye Jian’s lead, agreeing thoroughly, ”If the bride is beautiful, the groom can’t be too shabby; too shabby, and my future father-in-law might just regret it on the spot.”

His future father-in-law was particularly protective of his daughter. He had previously mentioned wanting to keep Ye Jian until she was 27 or 28 before discussing marriage. However, he had proposed an early engagement, already foreseeing how dismayed his future father-in-law’s reaction would be!

He wasn’t joking previously; they needed to get this engagement settled, with the old master, Old Madam, and the whole family eagerly anticipating it.

He could only hope that the old master would agree by then. He would then talk it over properly with his future father-in-law to see if it was feasible. If he really didn’t agree, Xia Jinyuan was willing to wait a bit longer and would talk it over with the elders back home.

”My family doesn’t even know, so don’t just assume it’s a done deal. Grandpa Gen probably won’t be a big issue, but my father is the real problem,” Xia Jinyuan said as he mentioned the engagement again, speaking of brides and grooms, which made Ye Jian’s cheeks burn. She said softly, ”It’s all still up in the air, and you’re talking as if it’s already decided. We don’t even know if my father will come back for Spring Festival.”

Such matters of course required her father’s presence. Grandpa Gen had said that her father would come back, but until he was home, nothing was certain.

Once back, it was still possible that he could be called away at the last minute.

”Unless something unexpected happens, your father should be coming back this Spring Festival,” Xia Jinyuan was still quite sure, ”When father comes back, I’ll talk with him and try to gain his approval.”

”How do you know?” Ye Jian asked. Captain Xia would never talk about things he wasn’t sure of, so since he said it, it must be feasible.

”Your boyfriend has his ways; this little matter won’t be difficult for me.”

Xia Jinyuan’s smile was filled with deep meaning, which made Ye Jian a bit puzzled. She furrowed her delicate brows, thought for a moment, and just as she was about to ask more, Xia Jinyuan changed the subject: ”You picked out all your clothes earlier, so it’s only right that you pick out mine. Let’s see if you can find some matching outfits for us.”
