Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Old Madam Qin’s words were such that Madam Li couldn’t directly refute them, for Old Madam Qin had cloaked her teachings to Ye Jian in a guise, not directly naming her, and had Madam Li spoken rashly, she would have fallen right into Old Madam Qin’s trap, admitting to being a cruel and devious person.

But Qin Xiuyu was different, Qin Xiu was naming names when threatening her.

”Qin Xiu, your mother and I have been friends for many years, it seems you truly want to go against her to the end. Sigh, you young people, no matter how outstanding, your vision is still too narrow, judging people only by whether they look beautiful or not, while ignoring whether their character is good or not.”

Madam Li had intended to just say her piece and leave, but now that it was all out in the open, she decided to lay it all bare, lest Old Madam Qin truly think she was garrulous and deliberately bullying that little wretch.

She wasn’t bullying the little wretch, she was just telling the truth!

As for whether the Qin family would take heed, it depended on whether they were blind or not, for their eyes may be blind, but their hearts were not yet blind to a family’s true nature.

”This Miss Ye, whom I’ve known for many years, went so far as to harm her own cousin Ye Ying before joining the military school, causing her to lose her qualification for the college entrance exam out of revenge against her own uncle’s family. Fearing trouble from her second uncle who was an official, she somehow managed to cling to Little Six of the Xia family, using the Xia family as an umbrella.”

”After her second uncle fell from power, she thrived in the military school. Not only did she establish connections with Little Six of the Xia family, but she also befriended my nephew, Li Jinnian. Fortunately, my nephew has been serving in the army all year round and hasn’t the time to bother with her, and to this day has not brought her home to meet the elders. Little Six is also in the army, probably in the same situation as my older nephew, just having fun, never intending to take her home.”

”Old Madam, even at the risk of truly offending you now, I must make myself clear. This Miss Ye indeed has formidable skills, talent, and beauty, and with her intelligence and schemes, she has astonishingly climbed her way up to associate with three of the capital city’s most sought-after young masters. Now she has even got Qin Xiu bringing her to your home. I might be speaking out of turn, but you’ve crossed more bridges than I’ve walked roads, yet you must still be careful.”

Madam Li characterized Ye Jian as a woman who flirts with many suitors, stepping on three boats at once, choosing to climb whichever branch was higher, and cunningly carving her way into a noble family with focused determination.

Unfortunately, she had never considered that Li Jinnian was Ye Jian’s brother, that Ye Jian was the granddaughter of the Fu family, that the Xia family already regarded Ye Jian as their granddaughter-in-law, and that the Qin family, although they liked Ye Jian, lamented the lack of fate with her.

Thus, her words not only had no impact on Ye Jian, but on the contrary, they encouraged Old Madam Qin to be even more resolute in distancing herself from the Du and Li families.

A sixty-year-old woman still so fond of stirring up trouble, and in the end, putting on an appearance of benevolence and consideration for others — Old Madam Qin truly looked down upon this.

”Madam Li, you say so much, but the crux of it is you want me to know that Jian isn’t good. I like Ye Jian, and to me, she is a good person. And as for Madam Li, sigh, I truly can’t accept your ’kindness.’ The words you speak, I can’t listen to a single one. Our Qin family has little to do with the Du and Li families; Madam Li, you should worry less about our Qin family’s affairs in the future.”

Having said that, Old Madam Qin instructed Qin Xiu, ”Xiu’er, Ye Jian has been with me for so long without a sip of warm water. Go find a nurse to pour her a cup of hot water; let’s not have her go thirsty.”
