Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Ye Jian, who had arranged for the female soldiers to stand guard, thought that the gala was about to start. She and Xia Jinyuan didn’t rehearse even once, so wanted to go over and look for him.

She knocked lightly on the half-closed door. ”Please come in.” She pushed the door open and saw Xia Jinyuan packing his luggage. Her heart sank. She locked the door and said in a low voice, ”Is there an urgent mission in the team?”

Every year, at the end of the year, there would be many sudden and urgent missions, especially a few days ago when the United States launched another military mission against Ike. A few missiles even landed in the civilian area. A total of 1,600 Ike civilians died in their sleep. At this moment, Ike was already hell on earth.

Xia Jinyuan turned his head. Seeing her cold expression, he knew that she had misunderstood. ”There’s no urgent mission. After the gala ends, I’ll leave with the soldiers to patrol. It’ll take a while.”

So it was a patrol!

Ye Jian, whose back was tense, felt relieved.

As for how long it would take, since he didn’t say it, Ye Jian didn’t ask anymore. She didn’t mention the rehearsal either. She stayed behind and helped hand Xia Jinyuan his belongings for him to pack.

There were indeed patrolling missions. From the tenth day of the new year to the 16th day of the new year, their patrol route was to the north of the base.

Ye Jian didn’t tell Xia Jinyuan that she had patrol arrangements too. As soon as she put away the necessary supplies, a loud voice came from the door. After Xia Jinyuan finished speaking, a soldier pushed the door open and entered.

Seeing that Ye Jian was here too, the soldier didn’t show any surprised expression. ”Reporting, the battalion commander wants to see you in the office for a discussion.”

”Okay, I’ll go over immediately.” Xia Jinyuan didn’t even tighten his backpack when he heard that. He immediately left with the soldier.

After Ye Jian tightened the belt of the backpack, she returned to the cafeteria to watch the female soldiers’ rehearsal.

He was busy with work, so she shouldn’t disturb him regarding the performance.

The gala started at six o’clock sharp. The comrades from the cooking team had been busy since the morning.

Pot after pot of dumplings started to boil in the steel pot, and ingredients were being stir-fried. The meal started at 5:30 pm sharp and ended at 5:40 pm sharp. At 5:55 pm, all the dining tables and chairs were stacked in a straight line, ready for the gala.

The soldiers’ timing was accurate to the second. At 5:30 pm, the cafeteria was already filled with soldiers. When the soldiers who didn’t participate in preparing the venue saw this, they smiled.

They sat down and took off their caps. One could see that there were bloody wounds on the lips of all the soldiers. When they were eating, blood flowed out of the wounds. It mixed into the food and was swallowed by the young soldiers.

There were also bloody wounds on their hands that were holding chopsticks. Some of the soldiers’ hands were swollen from the cold. Although their hands were not good-looking and their joints were thick like the hands of an old man who had been through many hardships, it was these ugly hands that supported the peace of the motherland and allowed billions of citizens to peacefully celebrate New Year’s.

The gala officially started at 6:00 pm. Two female soldiers and two male soldiers were the emcees. Battalion Commander Tian and Commissar Tang went on stage one after another to speak. In the end, Company Commander Zhu represented all the company commanders to speak on stage. He knew that the soldiers wanted to watch the performances as soon as possible. The three of them used a total of ten minutes without any nonsense.

Ye Jian and Xia Jinyuan sat at the front. There was only a fist’s distance between them. They would be able to pull some trick if they wanted to. After clapping, Xia Jinyuan immediately held Ye Jian’s hand secretly and got ready to watch the exciting performances by the soldiers.
