Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 643: Chapter 617: There’s No Getting Around Qian

In the afternoon, Liumei went for an interview, Ye Xiaoyu braved the scorching sun to buy groceries, while Qian stayed in an air-conditioned room playing video games with Weiwei.

Games seem to draw Weiwei in, and Qian carefully selected a foreign word game that could improve family relationships to play with Weiwei.

Ye Xiaoyu felt that the expensive sunscreen she bought might be failing, the sun outside was so harsh, and she had to carry heavy groceries. But when she walked into the house, feeling the comfort of the air conditioning contrasting sharply with the heat outside, seeing the neatly arranged fruit platters on the desk, and Qian leisurely and comfortably using toothpicks to eat the fruit, feeding Weiwei a piece every now and then while Weiwei focused intently on the video game.

Forming a stark contrast to the utterly exhausted Ye Xiaoyu.

Ye Xiaoyu felt her anger blaze up suddenly.

She was out there working herself to the bone, going so far to buy groceries and then having to clean the house, and this is how Meiwei treats her sister?

She felt deceived...

The imagined treatment should have involved sitting upright, face-to-face, with the doctor taking notes, occasionally asking Weiwei questions, perhaps even like on TV, getting her to fill out some test forms, or chatting with Weiwei to explain some life philosophies, persuading her a little.

But instead, they were playing games, eating fruit, and enjoying the air conditioning — oh, what’s that?!

Noticing Ye Xiaoyu’s gaze, Qian raised the bottle of nail polish in her hand, ”Chanel’s Hidden Rose series, nice color, isn’t it?”

Still applying nail polish, unbelievable!!!

Ye Xiaoyu felt utterly taken aback.

”Meiwei, we need to talk!”

Qian casually blew on her freshly painted nails and patted Weiwei, who was still playing games, ”I’ll be right back, keep it up and finish the level.”

Noticing Weiwei’s worried expression, Qian smiled, ”It’s nothing, just a regular chat. My relationship with your sister is special — right, Ye Xiaoyu?”

”Yes...” she replied reluctantly.

The two went to Ye Xiaoyu’s rented apartment. Compared to Qian’s elaborately decorated place, this one was simply furnished, but it was clean, thanks to the cleaning service hired by Ye Xiaoyu’s wealthy boyfriend. The most noticeable thing was the astonishing array of bottles and jars on the dressing table.

Many were still unopened — truly the hallmark of a makeup fanatic, the sheer volume of cosmetics was astounding.

”Meiwei, I’m increasingly doubting whether you can really cure my sister. Even if Mr. Liu recommended you, I question your capability. You’re actually playing games with her?”

Ye Xiaoyu reprimanded with distress that while she was working her fingers to the bone for someone else, Meiwei was playing games with her sister?

”Yes, the current plan is to play for a week, ensuring a certain amount of gaming time each day.”

”You treat me like a workhorse, and in return, my sister just gets to play games?!”

”What kind of workhorse gets so delicate, looking like they can’t go on just from buying groceries? What if I ask you to fix toilets, or scrub toilets?”

”I want to change doctors for my sister!” This is too unreliable.

”When playing games, the brain’s so-called reward pathway, as well as the hippocampus related to learning and memory, are excessively activated. Focusing on a single goal for an extended period can help us concentrate, generate motivation and determination, and these are all things Weiwei needs now.”

”Determination needs to be gained from playing games?” Ye Xiaoyu’s expression clearly showed disbelief, ”Are you fucking kidding me?”

”Of course, but not all games can cure; she’s only playing the ones I carefully selected. Patients with depression are most lacking in these areas, and by passing each level, she’ll gain a sense of success, and that reward area in her brain will light up.”

Rattling off a seemingly reasonable explanation, Ye Xiaoyu understood only one thing: Meiwei claimed that playing games could cure Weiwei. In this era where games are generally deemed to disrupt learning, where some parents think gaming addiction ruins education and send their kids to special places for electroshock therapy to quit gaming addiction, Qian’s perspective is refreshingly novel.

”What if she gets addicted and falls behind in her studies?”

”You don’t think she can return to school in her current condition, do you? Go handle the procedures for a semester of academic leave, she can’t return to school now, she needs to stay home.”

”She seems quite normal; I’m not opposed to these peculiar treatment methods of yours, but you can’t let her education slide. Can’t you treat her after school?”

”No, education can be resumed, but life can’t be brought back.”

”Are you suggesting letting my sister take a semester off to play games?!” Oh my god, Ye Xiaoyu felt even more scammed.

”Of course, it’s not just playing games, this is only the first stage. Next comes exercise therapy and sun therapy. Depressed patients need exercise more than anything; at least half an hour every day. Her body’s slightly weak right now, so wait a few days for recovery, and then you accompany Weiwei jogging in the morning every day. Our Liumei goes for morning runs daily, she doesn’t know her way around much, so you guide them through the runs, one lap in the morning to awaken vitality, one lap in the evening to build her body, it’s great.”

”And you?”

”Me...” Qian sighed, ”To conserve optimal brain cells to serve everyone, I must ensure adequate sleep. So while you’re running in the morning, I’ll catch up on sleep, and when you return, just in time to make breakfast, keep it quiet, don’t interfere with my brain cell enhancement.”

So, what she means is to work others like beasts of burden, while she sleeps at home for beauty rest? And even after she wakes up, those who were running have to serve her!

”I feel like you’re just playing me.”

”Yes.” Qian admitted generously.

She admitted it!

Seeing Ye Xiaoyu on the verge of exploding, Qian added a sentence.

”But I’m also seriously treating Weiwei.” It’s just that among the many treatment methods, she happened to choose one that also deals with Ye Xiaoyu.

”I can’t even figure out what kind of person you are.” Ye Xiaoyu gritted her teeth.

Her patience stemmed from something the psychiatrist said during the medication consultation for Weiwei.

Controlling depression solely with medication isn’t enough; having a psychologist involved would be ideal. Although psychiatrists aren’t unable to treat it, doctors in hospitals are too busy to provide the detailed attention a psychologist could. Especially after that psychiatrist spoke, they recommended Mr. Liu.

They said that within the province, even the entire Northeast region, Mr. Liu is the most formidable and authoritative psychologist. However, Mr. Liu might not have the time, getting an appointment is best. But eventually, they circled back to Mr. Liu, who said Qian, having a different relationship with Weiwei, would be more effective in treatment than if he personally took the case. Hence, Ye Xiaoyu couldn’t bypass Chen Xiaoqian.

But judging by Qian’s demeanor, Ye Xiaoyu had doubts. Can a woman who brazenly displays her ”steal my man, I’ll get you back” philosophy really heal her sister?

Qian would soon prove she’s not a saint, but her professional capability is unrivaled!
