Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 614: Chapter 588: Schemes and Internship

All the way until the gathering ended, Yu Minglang pretended as if nothing was wrong. Besides Qiao Zhen, no one else knew what was on his mind, including Qian.

After the gathering, Yu Minglang took Qian and Yu Liumei downstairs. Qian noticed he seemed preoccupied all night and wanted to find a chance to talk to him alone.

But Yu Minglang only took them downstairs. Qian asked Yu Liumei to go up first while she stayed downstairs to talk with Yu Minglang.

”Now that the crisis is over, you can work with peace of mind. No one will disturb you anymore,” Yu Minglang said to Qian.

”Are you okay?” Qian asked worriedly.

Yu Minglang smiled and touched her face, ”What could happen to me? Go to sleep, it’s already very late.”

”Well, I’m going up.” Qian thought for a moment before leaving and called to Yu Minglang.

”Xiaoqiang!”

”Hmm?”

”That low-quality belt you mentioned is the birthday gift I gave you.”

Yu Minglang’s face flushed instantly and he hurried to explain, ”I didn’t mean that your gift was of poor quality, it’s just, I—”

”I know, you don’t have to say it.” She made a shushing gesture, ”I just want to tell you, I like everything you did for me today. Keep that emotion, and hopefully, at some moment next year, I’ll have the chance to give you a one-year wedding anniversary gift, and you’ll have the chance to give me one too.”

”Mei, you mean—” Yu Minglang was overjoyed, he could tell that Qian’s fear of marriage seemed to have lessened, there was hope indeed!

”Shh! Go back and think about it, then come up with a reasonable wedding proposal and get back to me.” She turned and went upstairs as she finished speaking, and Yu Minglang felt a bit delighted watching her light steps.

He could sense that after these days, Mei seemed to trust him more, and her feelings for him had grown a bit—this time it wasn’t just his own perception, but he deeply felt it when Qian said she liked everything he did for her, her impression of him had genuinely improved.

A well-thought-out reason for marriage proposal...

What should that be? Yu Minglang pondered extensively, feeling like his brain cells were about to deplete.

Qian stood by the window, watching him leave, her palms still slightly sweaty.

She was still quite nervous, though the pre-marriage phobia wasn’t entirely gone, but seeing him wielding the belt against the bully who spoke harshly to her, she truly had the urge to get married.

That’s why she wanted him to come up with a good proposal. Qian distinctly realized that her pre-marriage phobia was only a little left; if Yu Minglang could just put in a bit more effort, she could definitely successfully marry him. She wasn’t being pretentious to test him, but hoped Yu Minglang would help her, help overcome this last trace of mental barrier.

That night Qian barely slept until dawn; she sat in front of her computer going through wedding dress photos that had been prepared long ago, from Chinese-style dresses to Western-style gowns, looking through them one by one.

These things had long been ready, but she never dared look. Whenever she did, it was uncomfortable. But today, for some reason, she looked through them picture by picture, feeling a complex emotion inside.

A bit of sweetness, a bit of nervousness, and an indescribable feeling, perhaps anticipation...

She had just slept less than 4 hours when she was awakened by a string of urgent calls from Liao Fugui.

”Hello...” Qian yawned while holding the phone.

”Qian’er, I got you an internship opportunity, you can assist me.”

”No... I want to sleep.” After looking at wedding outfits all night, she was barely asleep.

Qian knew the work her ethical stepbrother arranged for her always came with low or no pay, things like comforting women with makeup compulsion or helping alcoholic men fight their addiction.

”This time is different, several people from our institute are here because this case is very rare, and it overlaps with your field. I want you to come and take a look.”

”Lishi... You’re not talking about Zhiming’s case, are you?” She perked up immediately.

”Yes, it’s related to Zhiming’s psychiatric assessment. We’ve already conducted a preliminary investigation this morning. Although we suspect he has multiple personality disorder derived from schizophrenia, his violent personality hasn’t shown up so far. Anyway, it’s complicated. I hope you can come and observe. Don’t pass up such a good opportunity because of the pay. Our great leader taught us—”

”Alright, you win, stop talking, I’ll go over in a while.”

This stepbrother was quite commendable, though he occasionally nagged a bit, he always tried his best to take care of Qian and Dalong, arranging cases for Qian. Although Qian didn’t need that little money or internship experience, Liao Fugui didn’t know that Qian had the skills from a past life and considered her a beginner doctor, trying his best to gather representative cases for her.

Besides, Liao Fugui also tutored Dalong individually for almost three years—though Dalong only scored 250 points in the mock exams, it’s because Dalong was unmotivated, but Liao Fugui really tried his best.

No matter what, this stepbrother cared for his younger sister and brother. Qian might complain, but she didn’t truly reject him.

This case, even if Liao Fugui didn’t take her, she’d really want to explore and unravel those mysteries in her heart, and this opportunity came just right.
