Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 640: Chapter 614: The Tug-of-War Begins

”Are you really serious?” Ye Xiaoyu was surprised. Is there really someone who doesn’t love money?

Before Mr. Liu could answer, a nurse came out, saying the patient had woken up but seemed not in the right state, and the family should go in quickly.

The ventilator had been removed. Ye Xiaowei, who returned from the gates of hell, showed none of the emotional fluctuations a normal person should have. The process of gastric lavage is extremely painful, especially since a suicide attempt with sleeping pills is one of the most unbearable ways to die. She should be in pain now, but she showed no reaction, just stared straight at the ceiling.

It was as if she was someone not of this world.

”You youngsters nowadays, always thinking life is unbearable. What’s so unbearable about it? Normal people think taking sleeping pills is the least painful way to die, but that’s nonsense! Sleeping pills make you feel ten times more nauseous than car sickness. Your consciousness is fuzzy, but you still feel everything throughout your body, including the pain in your organs. Dying isn’t that easy! If you can live well, don’t entertain these chaotic thoughts—”

An elderly nurse was rambling on and on at her in the ICU.

Qian and Mr. Liu frowned simultaneously.

”Shut up!” Qian admonished.

The old nurse was quite zealous, and even after being reprimanded by Qian, she was still not convinced.

”Am I wrong?”

”Who would willingly do such a thing if they could live well? You don’t understand anything! Do what you need to do and don’t express your views on life to her. You’re not her, and you don’t understand her feelings.”

For patients with moderate to severe depression, they also really want to live well, but it’s truly too painful. These people’s accusations only increase her sense of guilt and do nothing to help the condition.

Hearing Qian’s voice, Weiwei, who initially showed no emotional fluctuation, tried hard to turn her head to look, but her body felt so heavy, as if she were trapped in a quagmire, unable to move. Her throat wouldn’t allow her to speak; the side effects of the drugs she took would take at least 1-2 days to subside before she could speak.

Noticing her attention, Qian quickly stepped forward, holding her hand with one hand, gently stroking her forehead with the other, letting her feel the warmth of her hand.

”Weiwei, hello, I’m your sister Meiwei, I’ve come to see you.”

Weiwei’s eyes gradually focused on Qian, wanting to know if this was just a hallucination.

Her body felt as if floating in the air, everyone moving in slow motion, yet this pretty sister let her see a hint of color.

She widened her eyes, trying hard to see clearly if this really was the Meiwei sister she could only hear on the radio.

”It’s me. Right now, don’t think about anything else. I’m here; nothing can take you away from me. Sister knows you feel terrible and know you don’t want to be like this but can’t control it. It’s okay; rest first, when you regain your strength, I’ll help you. Your heart has a little cold, I can heal it. Don’t be afraid, sleep first, okay...”

Qian held her hand, feeling that this young girl who just came out of a coma seemed very eager to hold her hand. This weak force let Qian understand she was the last straw for this child.

Weiwei desperately wanted to express something, but she couldn’t say anything, tears continually falling from the corners of her eyes, and Qian gently wiped them away.

”Don’t be afraid, and don’t feel sad. I understand your emotions. I know your pain. It’s okay, sister can cure you.”

This scene deeply moved Mr. Liu and Ye Xiaoyu.

They could feel the trust a hopeless young girl had in Qian.

They were meeting for the first time.

Yet Qian’s voice had accompanied her on many nights, Weiwei wanted to feel the joy and sorrow of human life by listening to the program, trying to integrate into society, trying to disguise herself more like a normal person.

But she hadn’t found those normal emotions in the program and developed a liking for Qian. Compared to what normal people feel, this liking was very faint, but for someone with depression, finding something they liked is indeed challenging.

Patients can’t feel the hope to live, nor easily find something they like, but it doesn’t mean they don’t need care and understanding. It’s just that ordinary people find it hard to express this care in a way suitable for patients, sometimes family care puts extra pressure on the patient.

This seemingly untouchable idol Meiwei suddenly appeared beside a young girl who lost hope in the world, bringing Weiwei a bit of hope and adding a burden to Qian.

”Sleep, I’ll stay with you.” Qian stood by her bed holding her hand, staying until she fell asleep.

Looking back, she only saw Ye Xiaoyu and Mr. Liu, that pair of nominal parents had gone off to discuss fees with the doctor.

”Did you see that? Besides Qian, it’s hard for this child to accept other therapists.” Mr. Liu said to Ye Xiaoyu.

”Can you save my sister?” Ye Xiaoyu was frightened by the expression her sister had just shown.

That wasn’t the lively young girl she remembered. The girl on the bed seemed dead to her, only showing a glimmer of life when Qian appeared, but even Ye Xiaoyu, who knew nothing about psychology, could see her sister almost had no will to live.

”Let’s talk outside.”

In the hallway, Mr. Liu stood with Qian, Ye Xiaoyu crossing her arms—a gesture showing distrust.

She didn’t trust Meiwei, but now, besides Meiwei, there seemed to really be no one else who could save Weiwei.

”I must objectively tell you, depression has various types, each with different circumstances, and there are many causes. But regardless of the type, we must be prepared for a long-term struggle. Let me use an analogy, now we’re in a tug of war team, Weiwei is in the middle of the rope, on this side are doctors like me and family like you; on the other side is death. If you don’t pull hard enough...”

”She’s only 15, how could this happen?” Ye Xiaoyu couldn’t believe it.

”Even preschool children can develop psychological issues, it’s not related to age. For now, let her be observed in the hospital for two days, and after her physical danger has passed, consult a psychiatrist for medication. Her situation can’t be solved by psychological intervention alone, medication is necessary.”

”Will my sister become mentally ill in the future?” The term ’psychiatry’ sounded terrifying to Ye Xiaoyu, instantly bringing the word ’madness’ to mind.

”What you need to think about now is how to snatch your sister from death, not these concerns.” Qian was discussing the condition with her when hearing a dispute elsewhere, looking up to see Ye Xiaowei’s adoptive mother arguing with a doctor.

Vaguely, she heard terms like ”money, scam, I know your tricks...”

Qian sighed, recalling an important factor.

”Ye Xiaoyu, do you live alone?”
