Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 612: Chapter 586: Connection and Truth vs. Falsehood

”That idiot who called claimed he was from some government office. We met him last time. He has a family and a stable career, yet he did something that ruins his future. He’s such a coward that he wouldn’t even dare to make a sound when he saw a thief, yet I never expected he’d dare to make such calls.”

The previous cowardly behavior of this man was fresh in Yu Minglang’s memory. His wife’s intimate clothes were being stolen right before his eyes, and he was so scared that he didn’t dare make a sound. Yet doing these insane things came quite naturally to him.

Yu Minglang reported a government office, and Qian immediately thought of the recent news she heard. That office seemed to be undergoing restructuring, and many people would face the pressure of buying out their seniority and becoming jobless.

”This is a type of psychological issue. The stress has twisted his mind. He has to find a way to release that stress. To him, making prank calls isn’t a big deal, it’s low-cost, and even if he’s caught, it wouldn’t be a big issue, which is why he resorts to such extreme ways to de-stress. Actually, there are quite a lot of people like this.”

Qian provided a professional explanation.

This man’s intelligence was his downfall. Making such gruesome calls to the radio station more than once, things definitely wouldn’t end easily. Paying a price is inevitable.

There are indeed many people like him in society. Because of excessive psychological pressure, he’s too cowardly to face it directly, so he finds some bizarre ways to vent the stress. Like internet trolls, who dare not say a word in real life yet curse everyone and everything online, leaving nothing unsprayed, souls extremely twisted.

Such people generally don’t amount to much, just like the man who called Qian, a coward. But the case of the face-cutting maniac Wang Mingming is of another kind.

”Sister-in-law, if the caller’s hypocritical behavior is due to excessive stress, could you talk about the face-cutting maniac case? What kind of mental illness would make someone forget the heinous acts they’ve committed?”

Qiao Zhen asked the second question of concern on behalf of everyone.

Such a thing has never been seen before.

All physical evidence shows that Wang Mingming committed the crime, yet he maintains an innocent, startled look like a frightened bird, refusing to confess no matter how scrutinized.

”Mingming?!” Qian was taken aback and then looked at Yu Minglang.

Could it be the young man with snakes she saw at the country house?

Knowing that someone she once knew is a vicious criminal, anyone’s first reaction would be shock, and Qian was no exception.

Yu Minglang nodded heavily.

Although he hoped it wasn’t the young man he once met, it really was him. The test results were irrefutable.

”The lab has already done a comparison. The fingerprints on the knife, found not far from the scene in the bushes, match his, and the bloodstain is also his. He has wounds on his hands too.”

He didn’t commit rape but only slashed faces. After slashing, he abandoned the phone and money, only taking a stolen imported towel from the mall, leaving the motive a mystery.

Qian quickly assembled the information, closed her eyes to recall her interactions with Mingming, and what she saw and heard at the countryside inn, then rapidly filtered through the diseases within her professional scope, finally locking onto one answer.

She opened her eyes, ”Let’s get Fugui over for an evaluation. This should be within his area, beyond the scope of my treatment.”

”You don’t even know what’s going on?” In everyone’s mind, Qian was the coolest psychologist.

Qian nodded and then shook her head.

”I have a rough guess, but how it turns out will require my brother’s team to come over.”

The provincial authoritative center for forensic psychiatric evaluation is where Fugui works.

Liao Fugui does not take on private cases, only judicial commissions. At this level, Fugui and his team will certainly be dispatched.

Seeing everyone’s curious look, Qian gave her judgment.

”My conjecture is that Wang Mingming may have multiple personalities arising from schizophrenia. Severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia affect roughly one percent of the total population, and among these patients, there’s a 10% risk they may be prone to incidents. But as we all know, mental illness is not a shield for criminals. Not all mental illnesses allow escaping legal penalties. It has to be proven by professional authoritative agencies like my brother’s that the criminal act occurred during the patient’s active phase with no civil capacity. If I guess correctly, if Wang Mingming is indeed as I think, he may not have to bear criminal responsibility, but the government may impose mandatory treatment.”

”Schizophrenia?”

”To be precise, it’s multiple personalities. Schizophrenia is caused by a brain function disorder. The exact conclusion will have to wait for my brother and his team to handle after they arrive.”

”Didn’t you treat multiple personalities before?” Yu Minglang immediately thought of Hu Meijing.

Qian shook her head.

”The nature is different. The previous case was maladaptive flight syndrome, also known as dissociative fugue, which can be solved by a psychologist, but its nature is different from this. This involves the distinction between psychologists and psychiatrists. Many believe the difference is that we can’t prescribe medication, which isn’t wrong but is also quite superficial.”

”Sister-in-law, could you explain in a way we all understand? It’s too complicated to grasp!” The nearby Yu Liumei listened curiously yet confused.

”Okay then, I’ll demonstrate in the simplest way possible.” Qian pointed to herself, ”I have pre-marital anxiety disorder. I know I have this disorder. I’m anxious but unable to overcome it, and willing to accept treatment from a psychologist when needed. My patients are all like this.”

After speaking, she turned to Yu Minglang.

”Do you have any illness?”

”I’m not sick!” Yu Minglang replied without a thought.

”What if someone suddenly tells you that you have a mental illness?”

”I’d tell them, you’re the one with a mental illness, your whole family has it!”

”What if they insist you have it and try to drag you for treatment?”

”I’d beat them up!”

Qian spread her hands, ”See, a psychiatrist’s patients are like him. When the mental illness acts up, the patient doesn’t feel they’re sick. On the contrary, in their eyes, normal people are lunatics. My brother’s patients all have this characteristic, but many untreated psychological issues can worsen into mental illness. Conversely, well-controlled mental illnesses often require us, psychologists, to help adjust the patient. Thus, our fields frequently intersect.”

Yu Minglang unintentionally took the hit, and everyone laughed heartily. Qian’s explanation was straightforward and everyone believed she was in jest about her pre-marital anxiety because she even considered Yu Minglang mentally ill.

But only Qiao Zhen remained silent, thoughtfully observing Yu Minglang and Qian.

He recalled the look in Yu Minglang’s eyes when mentioning his failed proposal, wondering whether Mr. Chen’s half-joking explanation might indeed be true?
