Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 633: Chapter 607: Real and Fake

Evidence shows that people’s passionate demand for exploring the mysterious lessens when everything is openly revealed.

The more something is hidden, the more it arouses the public’s curiosity for a peek.

This is quite similar to the significance of sex education for children; traditionally, it’s believed that this should be kept from children. Some parents even demand that schools stop teaching it and recall textbooks when such courses are included, leading to many young people undergoing abortions.

If certain things are bound to happen, it’s better to guide with the right approach early on; once you know it, you can face it calmly.

So Qian took less than five minutes to handle the commotion over the past two days regarding the host’s wedding announcement. As listeners called in, the first thing they said was ”Congratulations to you, Meiwei.” Qian graciously responded, ”Thank you for witnessing my happiness,” and this warm scene improved the mood of those listeners eager to share their troubles.

Emotions are quite subtle; negative feelings can be contagious, which is why many psychologists and late-night radio hosts have high suicide rates. Yet positive emotions can also spread; after a monotonous and dull life, a little excitement handled with warmth can instantly transmit positive energy, calming the agitated minds of many.

Qian’s high emotional intelligence showed brilliantly in this matter.

She not only avoided making listeners feel that calling in was bothersome but also received many blessings from strangers.

Unknowingly, she made a stark contrast to Ye Xiaoyu’s lack of emotional intelligence and quickly became the most popular female host on traffic radio.

The station leaders who were listening to the broadcast also breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed the situation was handled well, and the late-night show gained a lot of followers. Meiwei was truly a lucky star, though it was a pity she’s just a temporary worker. They wished they could keep her permanently and decided to discuss this with Qian during the day to see if they could secure her. That’s for later.

At this moment, Qian skillfully took listeners’ calls, and Yu Minglang listened to his future wife’s hosting on the radio, feeling relaxed and his day’s fatigue lessened.

These past two days, he’s been busy with the transition, as his team was newly established, leaving only him and his assistant to handle everything. He’s been working late into the night and hasn’t had a chance to call Qian.

But hearing her voice is comforting; his wife feels like a little city elf, listening in the quiet of the night, processing others’ troubles and offering sharp insights. He finds it hard to close his eyes listening to her voice.

Aside from the initial uproar, the other calls were as usual. In this vast city, everyone has different troubles. The only difference tonight was that host Meiwei was particularly patient, equally professional but with extraordinary patience. Overcoming pre-wedding jitters, the soon-to-be bride was filled with joy and anticipation, experiencing happiness and spreading it around.

When the program broke for ads, Qian stepped out of the studio to stretch her muscles, and the producer looked at her admiringly.

”Meiwei, I really admire you sometimes. How do you persevere when people offload their troubles on you every day?”

”Much like handling calls, it’s all professional. You face it with a professional mindset, assigning properly; it’s really not that hard.”

At this moment, Qian finally understood Mr. Liu’s intentions. He must have feared that once she formally became a doctor, depression would arise, so he threw her into such an extreme yet not extreme environment to train her resilience.

”Will you treat patients the same way in the future?” The producer was always curious about psychologists, feeling that it’s like a mysterious world.

”Not really; like these people calling in aren’t classified as psychological conditions. At our place, they aren’t called patients but consultees. Such consultees will make up 80% of my future work, with only a small portion requiring professional treatment for genuine mental illness.”

Although many people often joke about having depression, mania, procrastination, phobias... they’re really just making fun. Psychological conditions are numerous but not so pervasive that everyone has them.

”What are the real patients like then? Are they the kind that takes a knife and goes on a rampage without breaking the law?” The producer seized the chance to ask all his questions while Meiwei was in a good mood.

Qian found it both funny and exasperating.

Many people don’t understand the difference between negative emotions and psychological conditions. More people don’t grasp the distinction between patients with disorders like Zhiming and those with psychological illnesses.

”There are psychological conditions involving knife attacks, but they mostly need psychiatric care. And not all patients attacking people will go unpunished; it depends on whether they were aware of their actions at the time. For instance, some think depression is a mental disorder and believe depressed people will go unpunished for attacks, which is incorrect.”

”Isn’t depression the illness that causes sudden feelings of despair?” The producer seemed like a curious child today, asking question after question.

Qian was also in a good mood today and wanted to explain depression to her, hoping to dispel misconceptions about depression. But the ads were over, so Qian could only say to the producer:

”I’ll tell you more another time; I have to go back to the show.”

After Qian went back in, the producer chuckled, feeling she’d scored.

She’d heard that psychologists bill for answering questions like lawyers, but chatting freely with Meiwei daily was quite something!

”Hello, this is Mind Password, do you have any questions for consultation?” The producer picked up a call, hearing a woman’s sobbing.

”I’m depressed, I can’t go on living, boo hoo hoo!”

”Alright, please hold, I’ll transfer you to Meiwei right away.”

The producer patched the call through, wondering if talking about depression leads to depression?

It was a middle-aged sister feeling upset over her husband’s interactions with other women. Qian took just three minutes to calm her down.

The producer mouthed to Qian, asking if it was really depression?

Qian shrugged, ”Depression my foot; it’s just temporary narrow-mindedness from stress. Some people think they’re ill, but true depression isn’t like this.”

Another call came through, with a young-sounding female voice.

”Congratulations, Meiwei sister, on your upcoming wedding.”

”Thank you; do you have any questions you’d like to ask?”

”I don’t have any questions... Sister, I haven’t slept for three days. I’ve forgotten what colors in dreams look like, and lost my happiness. But hearing you’re getting married made me really happy, it’s been a long time since I felt this way. I wanted to congratulate you personally, because I don’t know if I’ll be able to wait until your wedding...”
