Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 639: Chapter 613: Qian’s Mischievous Grin

Is there really someone who would give up hundreds of thousands in treatment costs for a non-profitable case?

Ye Xiaoyu couldn’t believe it. This challenged her values.

Her father worked as a manager at a private company. Although it sounded prestigious, everyone knew how unstable private firms could be; today you might have a high salary, tomorrow you might pack up and leave.

Her mother was in sales. The business cards she handed out said manager, but it was just a shell company. She ran from hospital to hospital with some materials, earning the price difference on equipment. Selling one unit could feed them for half a year, but a year might go by without selling even one or two.

She had a stable job but also faced enormous work pressure. Her family’s life was considered middle-class. In the eyes of outsiders, they were a middle-class family, but to maintain a decent life, everyone was doing their best to work hard.

Hundreds of thousands; Ye Xiaoyu couldn’t believe anyone would not care about that.

But Qian just snorted disdainfully, her conceited snort almost identical to Mr Liu’s.

”You still don’t understand a doctor’s dignity. The spiritual realm of my teacher is one you’ll never reach in your lifetime. In her eyes, some things are more important than money. I bet she will accept.”

”I bet she won’t. How much do you want to bet?” Ye Xiaoyu didn’t believe it. She couldn’t accept that Mr Liu would have no time for Li Jia’s hundreds of thousands but would have time for her own sister.

”How vulgar! I’m a person with an identity card. If Xiaoqiang knew I was gambling, wouldn’t he lecture me on values? After all, we’re already very rich.”

Click; a piece of heart-wrenching dog food was shoved in Ye Xiaoyu, and her sickened expression deeply amused Qian.

”Why am I starting to dislike you more and more?”

”Whether you dislike or like me makes no difference to me. The sun still rises, I still eat, sleep, and marry when I’m supposed to.”

When dealing with rival potentials, Qian never holds back.

”What do you want to bet on exactly?”

”Bet on makeup. If my teacher accepts, you’ll go bare-faced for a week. If she doesn’t—”

”And what about you?”

”I’ll wear heavy makeup for a week. How about that?”

”I don’t want to bet on such meaningless stuff!”

”Oh, so you’re a makeup compulsive disorder. It’s okay, no need to force yourself if you dare not.”

”I don’t have a makeup compulsion!”

”Then why not bet?”

”I just don’t want to.”

”Oh, still a makeup compulsive disorder, alright, alright, I won’t force a patient.”

”It’s a bet!” Ye Xiaoyu, suddenly sparked by Qian, agreed to this unfair deal.

Only when she saw the meaningful smile on Qian’s face did she realize she might... have been tricked!

Not wearing makeup made it hard for her to concentrate, and she’d feel especially anxious. She had rushed over worrying about her sister today, but felt uncomfortable all over, as if she had a fever. If she didn’t wear makeup for a week, she felt she might die.

Thinking of makeup, Ye Xiaoyu’s hands unconsciously pulled out a lipstick from her bag, applying it as she climbed the stairs, a feat that amazed Qian. How could she not go outside the lines?

”Ye Xiaoyu, what’s your relationship with Ye Xiaowei? Your mother isn’t her biological mother, is she?”

”How do you know? Did Weiwei tell you?”

”Mhm.”

”Actually, Weiwei is my uncle’s child. Her mother died when she gave birth to her. Her father died in an accident while working away, so my father took her in. She’s been growing up in our family since she was very young, calling my dad ’dad’ and my mom ’mom’.”

”You really like her.” Liked her enough to ignore your makeup compulsion and run out.

”Mhm, she’s a very good girl. Sometimes when I’m tired outside, just seeing her smile lightens my mood—why am I telling you this, I hate you.”

”I don’t like you either.”

The two returned to the intensive care unit and handed the paperwork to the nurse. Ye Xiaoyu’s mother, Lv Zhi, followed to get the things needed for hospitalization, while Mr. Ye lingered outside the intensive care unit. Mr Liu had already explained the situation to him; even though the child had escaped life-threatening danger, follow-up mental intervention was necessary. At this stage, if a proper psychologist doesn’t guide a person with depression, suicidal tendencies might still occur.

”Teacher, the patient’s family doesn’t accept my treatment. Can you take the case?” Qian was straightforward.

”Oh? Why not? Chen Xiaoqian is my most outstanding student; she’s capable of treating Weiwei.”

”Because—” Ye Xiaoyu hesitated.

”Because she once had an unrequited crush on Yu Gangdan and even played tennis with him for a while. Now she feels awkward seeing me, and I’m not feeling easy around her. That’s the gist.” Qian’s straightforward explanation turned Ye Xiaoyu’s face beet red.

Mr Liu simply responded with an ”Oh,” gave Ye Xiaoyu a meaningful look, and shook his head.

”Clearly, not the type Yu Gangdan fancies. Yu Gangdan’s standards for choosing a partner are too high; I suspect he has a love obsession. If it weren’t for someone like a Little Bullet, any woman by his side would be nitpicked to death. Together, they’d just torment each other, adding another pair of grudging couples to the world. Hmm, you’re lucky, young lady. Life with Yu Gangdan wouldn’t be pleasant. My apprentice is fine; she can handle Yu Gangdan, and there’s almost nothing wrong with her, a fitting match for someone with obsessions.”

So, was he comforting Ye Xiaoyu, or was he praising Qian in a roundabout way?

It’s a mystery...

Qian found Ye Xiaoyu’s expression amusing. The teacher was indeed protective.

Mr Liu’s words left Ye Xiaoyu feeling awkward. Someone with a makeup compulsion tends to blame everything on their lack of makeup. She quickly thought, was it because she didn’t have makeup on today and wasn’t perfect, that Mr Liu intentionally said Xiaoqian was prettier without makeup?

As her hand reached for her bag, she heard Mr Liu add a remark.

”Stop with the makeup. Last time you touched up three times in an hour at my place; I suspected you of have a makeup compulsion. This habit isn’t insignificant. It’s neither too big nor too small. Don’t let your mind be too meticulous. Don’t blame everything on not wearing makeup. Look at this Little Bullet; tough skin all day long. If she ever wore makeup, Yu Gangdan would likely complain, saying she tastes like lipstick—”

”He told you that?!” Qian suddenly wanted to smack her own Erha.

How could he tell that to an elder!

”He let your Uncle Liu overhear it bragging to his subordinates. They say this guy even has insights on lipstick tasting...”

Jeez! Yu Xiaoqiang, wait till I get my hands on you! Qian really wanted to strangle Yu Minglang. He had reached a new level of insanity, what with the lipstick insight nonsense!

Even though the teacher-grandfather appeared dignified, he was eavesdropping; truly unbelievable!

The dialogue between the teacher and apprentice left Ye Xiaoyu feeling uneasy, significantly lessening her urge to wear makeup.

”Mr Liu, can you treat my sister?” Ye Xiaoyu steered the topic back on track.

”I can. I’ll push two projects back. You, yes you, don’t look away! I’ll take your work, but you have to share some of mine!” Mr Liu pointed at Qian, who was pretending to be a bystander.

”Teacher, I’m still a baby; I might not handle it.”

”Don’t act like a child! Are you trying to condition bargain with me again?”

”Hehehe...”
