Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 615: Chapter 589: Qian and Showing Authority

Qian washed up and went to the agreed-upon place. Yu Liumei no longer needed to protect Qian closely; she went out to look for work.

Yu Liumei’s short-term job ended. She should have returned to her parents’ city, but this girl found the Lishi snacks quite good and didn’t want to go home to be under her parents’ control. So, she wanted to find a job to stay long-term. Qian thanked her for guarding her this time and invited her to stay as company.

Liao Fugui waited at the door for Qian, and when they met up, he introduced the situation to her.

He discovered Zhiming’s case was very special and representative, so he helped Qian apply for an assistant position. Being an assistant actually meant there was no salary; it was just a short-term exposure to Zhiming’s case. When Liao Fugui and others were assessing Zhiming, Qian would be responsible for taking notes.

She didn’t have any speaking rights nor the authority to diagnose.

In essence, Fugui thought this case could help Qian increase her understanding of multiple personality disorder, so he brought her over to observe.

Once Qian knew it was Zhiming’s case, she became interested. She had never seen such a patient in her past life; only read about someone so thoroughly split with no previous memories in books but never encountered one.

While walking inside, she suddenly saw two familiar faces in the hall.

It was the grandma and grandpa from the farmstay; they had been apart for only a few dozen hours, and now they looked years older. Grandma and Grandpa were kneeling in the hall, holding the leg of an officer and refusing to let go.

”They seem to be the suspect’s family members.” Liao Fugui had seen many such things. Afraid it would affect Qian, he led her up the stairs from the side. Qian turned back to look at the aging grandma, hearing her cries.

”Our son isn’t that kind of person. He’s very honest. He doesn’t even dare to kill a chicken. How could he do such a thing? It must be the lingering spirit of our departed eldest haunting him. Our son isn’t like that!”

Qian didn’t know how to comfort the family. Thinking of certain things that had happened with Zhiming before, a thought quickly flashed through her mind.

”At present, a lie detector has been used on him, but the effect is negligible. Everything he’s said so far is true.” As Liao Fugui led Qian to the assessment room, he introduced the situation.

”Lie detectors don’t really work on multiple personalities. Lie detectors measure physiological indicators like heart rate and skin conductivity when answering questions to determine if someone is lying. Since he hasn’t perceived the existence of other personalities during testing, he’s not actually lying, which means the inability to detect it increases the likelihood of him having multiple personalities.”

Qian wasn’t surprised by this outcome.

”Because right now, nobody can awaken his second personality, nor can they make a definitive diagnosis.” It was also the first time Liao Fugui had encountered such a case.

”Has the scale been done on him?”

The scale Qian referred to is a crucial tool for diagnosing multiple personality disorder, similar to psychological test questions. It includes many professional issues that need to be answered, and the analysis of these answers helps determine if a person has multiple personalities.

”He’s currently like a startled bird, crying at the table and not cooperating with us, making it difficult to conduct work. My colleagues have been relentlessly bombarding him all day.”

Liao Fugui was also very tired.

Outsiders often misunderstand their work, thinking they hold impressive titles and earn high salaries without knowing how daunting their daily tasks are.

”Qian’er, I’m letting you come over this time just to observe. The main goal is to give you a practical opportunity so if you encounter similar patients in the future, you’ll know how to discern——” Before finishing his sentence, Liao Fugui had already arrived at the door of the assessment room, where two of his colleagues came out looking exhausted and disillusioned.

Liao Fugui stopped talking with Qian and asked his colleagues.

”Still no progress?”

”Mr. Li just tried hypnosis and failed...”

People unfamiliar with psychiatric assessments can’t imagine their difficulties. Even though there are instruments, most assessments rely on testing and conversation to reach conclusions.

Zhiming is now frightened, refusing to cooperate with the scale and declining cooperation with the Hypnotist. These two crucial standards for diagnosing multiple personalities are currently untenable.

”A bunch of good-for-nothings! Taking high salaries and doing nothing! What’s the use of having you all as waste? Can we not get competent forensic experts in such a large province?” A man with a seemingly high rank roared from the room.

Liao Fugui and his colleagues exchanged looks, all sighing silently.

This was a senior leader visiting from the higher-ups to inspect the work. Leaders just knew to pressure these people to get quick conclusions, without considering their difficulties.

Qian was right beside Liao Fugui. She was pulled over by her stepbrother to gain experience. Witnessing this scene, she originally had no intention of speaking up. It was common to see administrative personnel directing technocrats in various industries, and some administrative workers had no understanding of business, only knowing how to bark orders while holding a bureaucratic stance.

The leader-looking person finished venting inside at Fugui’s leaders, coming out and passing by Fugui and Qian. If they had just brushed past each other, it might have been fine, but the leader was hot-tempered and continued finding faults outside.

Pointing at Qian, he asked, ”Who’s this?”

”She’s my temporary assistant,” Fugui explained.

”Assistant? Ha, it seems your budget is still too generous! When it comes to investigating cases, you’re all floundering, only knowing how to create excuses for more funding!” The leader seized the opportunity to make trouble.

”She doesn’t get a salary and doesn’t require budget use; she’s only here temporarily—” Fugui’s explanation wasn’t finished. He hadn’t paid Qian, nor would it use up any budget.

But the hot-tempered senior leader wasn’t listening to any explanation. Being in a leadership position made them keen on arbitrarily judging matters. Once they decided something was right, a thousand words from others wouldn’t change their mind.

Fugui’s explanation did not receive forgiveness; rather, it made the leader even more aggressive.

”If you can’t handle things, get someone competent! Bringing such a young person over as an assistant, whether you pay her or not, is a waste of public resources, slowing down our efficiency. How do you expect to serve the public with your approach? I think you’re more focused on personal matters than your work. The people nurtured you, and is this how you repay them?”

That final bureaucratic speech left everyone at the institute dark-faced, fists clenched, angry but unable to speak.

Who could argue with the leader? Who could argue when Fugui brought Qian over, giving the leader leverage to stomp on?

Qian couldn’t bear it any longer. She originally hadn’t intended to intervene, but this self-righteous leader had turned his criticism on her, even targeting her stepbrother. If she could swallow this insult, she wouldn’t be Qian.

She stepped forward, ignoring Liao Fugui’s hand trying to pull her back, confronted the leader directly, and commanded.

”Take back your words!”

The leader widened his eyes, ”Do you know who you’re talking to?”
