Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 590: Chapter 564: Resolution and Leave Request

”That’s hard to say. He’s always casual about things. Might come back any day. Came here to experience life,” the boss answered nonchalantly.

”Let me leave my contact information. If he comes back, please ask him to give me a call. Sorry for the bother.”

Yu Minglang walked out of the shop, glanced at the bottle in his hand, and fell into a deep thought.

What kind of person would go out of their way to come to a porridge shop to ’experience life’ and still gift such a valuable item?

And why did he bring Qian all this way here to eat?

Yu Minglang returned to the car, staring at the bag with the wine bottle, and thought for a while, a picture appearing in his mind.

He remembered—it was when he consulted Mr. Liu about pre-marital anxiety. As the session ended, Mr. Liu offhandedly mentioned to him.

There’s a 24-hour porridge shop around here; their crab roe soup dumplings are exceptionally delicious. He should bring Qian over sometime for a treat; she often works night shifts and her health suffers.

Since Mr. Liu introduced it, it should just be a coincidence. And that man who called himself Xuan was probably just a coincidence... right.

Knowing Qian would definitely ask about the bottle when they got home, Yu Minglang didn’t want her to worry further, so he deliberately drove over to Second Brother’s place to hand it over, letting him keep it in his office.

He would pass it along when the man named Xuan called him back.

His preliminary judgment was that the man didn’t seem to be a threat to Qian. After all, without any kinship, there’s no reason to fixate on her. Maybe he’s just a wealthy guy experiencing life, gifting things to kindred spirits.

Moreover, Yu Minglang recalled his interaction with Xuan yesterday. Although his instinct told him there must be a story behind Xuan, he didn’t sense any malice from him.

Thus, Yu Minglang decided to set the matter aside.

When Qian woke up, Yu Minglang was already cooking. The first thing she asked about was the bottle.

”What about that bottle of wine?”

”I returned it.”

”What’s the deal with the boss, exactly?”

”That wasn’t the boss, it was a friend of his. Seems he’s out experiencing life, maybe just found us kindred spirits and casually gifted us a bottle of wine. Don’t read too much into it; it’s fine.”

”Where has Xuan gone?” Qian recalled the note that appeared with the bottle in her past life, feeling still puzzled—she wanted to talk to that person herself.

”After giving him the stuff, he went abroad. Don’t know when he’ll return.”

Oh... Qian found it a bit strange.

But on second thought, perhaps she really was overthinking it.

She hadn’t met Xuan before, nor had any impression of him in her past life. Throughout their brief interaction, she didn’t feel like that person held any hostility toward her.

So it’s likely the bottle in her past life wasn’t gifted by Xuan at all.

If someone can casually give away such a precious item, regardless of whether they know the value of the bottle, it proves him to be a free-spirited person. He’d give the bottle to her as he might to anyone else.

Such antique circulation is quite normal. Perhaps in her past life, Xuan gifted the bottle to others, and after passing through several hands, it ended up with her. She had earned the wrath of many by the peak of her past life, especially among her peers.

Among the influential figures she had treated, some had very special identities; they were initially near a mental breakdown but found remedy through Qian. Once they got better, their rivals couldn’t laugh it off anymore. Perhaps those rivals disliked Qian enough to send a bottle with an eerie note.

Or maybe one of her past patients was joking with her by sending a bottle to scare her, and it’s just because Xiaowei happened to be in trouble that the bottle took on an ominous air.

Without seeing with her own eyes, even the cleverest person has no way of restoring the truth. Qian could only deduce several possible outcomes from her current situation.

Ultimately she decided the bottle’s different timing compared to last life’s was pure coincidence, and the emotional fluctuations brought by the man named Xuan brushed away. This lingering bond left unexplained through her past life was also set aside by Qian.

Working late resulted in Qian’s schedule becoming erratic; reaching home at 2ish, lazing around with Yu Minglang before sleeping almost by 3, waking at 10 in the morning, enjoying both breakfast and lunch together.

During the meal, she received a call from the station, advising Qian not to go to work these next three days.

Due to receiving a threat call, the station decided to pause ”Mind Password” for 3 days, allowing Qian time to recover and adjust, with the program being hosted by someone else meantime.

Qian’s immediate response to this notice was to decline; she hadn’t felt scared by a mere phone call, and the original agreement with her teacher required a full 60-day run, with time off needing to be made up.

But before she could respond, Yu Minglang snatched the phone, repeatedly thanking the station and exaggeratedly claiming that Qian had been severely frightened and couldn’t sleep last night.

Beside him, Qian could almost feel her teeth ache.

Hey! Why did she sleep so late last night really?

This shameless guy insisted her obsessive-compulsive disorder was acting up, disregarded her protests, and forcefully pursued their ’exercise’! That kind of distant exercise, it’d be a miracle if she could sleep, and yet this guy boldly lied without feeling any remorse!?

”Yes, I know this show has high ratings, but as her relative, seeing my fiancée unable to sleep at night breaks my heart...” Yu Minglang evaded Qian’s attempt to pinch him with eel-like agility, finally airing his ultimate aim.

”So I was thinking, could we extend these 3 days by 2 more, giving her a 5-day break—how’s that? Resting is for the sake of going further in life. Alright, thank you very much Director, goodbye!”

Ending the call, he threw Qian a playful wink—a showcase of his prowess!

The right way to take leave is just like this, successfully securing precious time to be with Mei, perfect!

Qian felt utterly powerless.

”I agreed with my teacher to complete 60 days, you making me take a leave means having to extend it.”

To Qian, this boring work was to end as soon as possible and be free.

”Wait until I leave before you resume work. I’ve come here seldom just for a few days, don’t you want to spend more time with me?”

”This work is only for a little while in the evening—aren’t you accompanying me all the time?”

”No no no, this accompanying is not like that accompanying! As your brother, seeing your mood faltering and OCD possibly acting up—”

”I don’t have OCD! My OCD is cured! You better not think of having me locked at home doing nothing these days, like a beast rolling with you endlessly!”
