Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 578: Chapter 552: Taking the Fall and Determination

”Had a nightmare?” Yu Minglang held her shoulder, resting his hand on her chest, where a heart was palpitating uneasily because of the nightmare.

”Mm, it’s okay, it’ll be fine in a few days.”

”What did you dream about?” He had just watched her tossing and turning while thinking about something, her expression very painful, and before he could wake her, she woke up on her own.

Qian’s expression right after waking was as painful as it could get, making his heart ache terribly.

”Nothing, I forgot all about it, let’s sleep.” Qian’s eyes dodged, she didn’t want to discuss this topic.

”Mei...”

”Hmm?”

”Do you still find it impossible to completely trust me?” After all this time, can he still not achieve full trust from Mei?

”People need space from each other, even the closest ones need their own space.”

Qian’s words made Yu Minglang press his lips together but he didn’t say anything further.

He thought he knew what to do.

After that night, Yu Minglang still did the household chores as usual, but Qian just felt something was off about him.

Maybe he was silent more often, and the balcony had become his place to think. Qian remembered when they started dating not long ago, he once casually mentioned that when they renovated the new house, they should make a thinking room.

Back then, it seemed like a joke, but now it seemed they might really need such a place.

In the years they had been together, they had never had such a long vacation to spend so much time together as now, and it was the first time Qian saw Yu Minglang silent like this. When he first started thinking like this, she thought of giving him enough time and space to think independently.

This situation continued to the third day, and Qian felt it couldn’t go on.

Yu Minglang had been playing the silent lamb game for over three days, and her nightmares were getting worse each time.

She planned to have a good talk with Yu Minglang after the meeting.

The weekly group meeting was an inescapable important moment for graduate students. When Qian arrived, the room was already full, with only two seats empty in the middle. One in the center was the exclusive seat for Mr. Liu, and the one beside was Qian’s.

If Qian wasn’t there, no one dared to sit in that seat because it was closest to Mr. Liu. Usually, the first to report in meetings was by that seat, given Mr. Liu would always harshly critique those closest to her, treating them with a ’whoever’s close to me will be cut’ attitude.

This was why Qian always performed perfectly. Despite Mr. Liu’s stringent demands, he could hardly find any faults in her; anyone else would have broken down long ago.

Mr. Liu had only Qian as a graduate student; the others were Ph.D. students, and the remaining ones were with the assistant boss.

Qian glanced at the empty seat of Mr. Liu and then asked the girl with a melon face next to her, ”Xiaocha, where is Mr. Liu?”

The girl next to her was the graduate student of the assistant boss, Lv Xiaocha, a foodie with a round apple face and big eyes, who liked to fill her cheeks with food and always carried a small shoulder bag full of various snacks.

”I heard she won’t make it, want to join me for buffet lunch, Qian? There’s a new hotpot buffet that’s really delicious at the school gate.” A foodie’s daily life is all about what’s on the menu and where to eat.

”No, I’ve got things to do.” Qian looked at Mr. Liu’s empty seat, guessing that her teacher had gone to see a patient.

She asked Yu Minglang to pick her up after the meeting ended so she could have a good talk with him.

Mr. Liu was indeed seeing a patient at that moment, but this ”counselor” was somewhat special.

”Minglang, what brings you here?”

Yu Minglang was sitting upright on the sofa in Mr. Liu’s office, looking somewhat serious.

”Mrs. Liu, is there strict confidentiality for patient information in your field?”

”Sure, you didn’t get into some trouble, did you? Stop joking; don’t you guys have regular psychological evaluations?”

Mr. Liu was on the way to the lab when she got a call from Yu Minglang, which made her cancel her plans.

”I have a request for you; I hope our conversation will be completely confidential and that no one will know, including my fiancée.”

Although he had tried his best to look up information, the professional knowledge in this aspect was still too limited.

In the face of difficulty, Yu Minglang chose not to avoid and to face the future directly.

”Are you really in trouble?” Mr. Liu became serious as well.

Yu Minglang nodded, ”I have pre-marital anxiety, please tell me what I should do.”

”You...?” Mr. Liu looked at him up and down, eyes filled with doubt.

Yu Minglang nodded without hesitation, ”Yes, me. I’m full of uncertainty about marriage now, constantly wanting to escape and avoid stepping into marriage, and I have nightmares every night. Please tell me what I should do.”

”To a psychologist, you need to be honest; is it really you?” Mr. Liu seemed to understand something, pushing her glasses.

”Yes, it’s me.”

He couldn’t say it was Qian.

She’s a licensed psychological counselor now, how could he say she has issues? Yu Minglang knew Mr. Liu would doubt, but as long as he insisted it was his own problem, there was nothing Mr. Liu could do about it.

He understood Mr. Liu’s character; she would never approach Qian to verify this. All he needed was to know how to help Qian overcome her psychological problems. Looking up information was too one-sided and directionless; it would be better to directly ask an expert.

”Does she know you’re doing this for her?”

”I’m not doing it for her; I’m doing it for myself.”

”Oh?”

”I decided to choose her because I want her to be happy, so I’m just fulfilling my promise to her; it has nothing to do with her. This matter doesn’t need to be told to her; you just need to tell me what I should do.”

”Premarital anxiety is a very minor psychological issue. Generally, there are three situations that cause it. The first is derived from internal emotional blockage and psychological trauma experiences, especially children from divorced or rejected parents are prone to this issue. Are your family ties strong?”

To protect the woman he loves, Yu Laomao lied without even drafting.

”My parents argue too. The other day, I called home, and my mom was arguing with my dad, saying he was not allowed to drink and that she cut back his food, claiming life was unbearable.”

Mr. Liu almost burst into laughter; he’d say anything to protect his girlfriend, but she restrained herself.

”Another possibility is the pursuit of perfection, rather having none than settling for less. She expects the perfect life and fears that stepping into marriage will ruin her perfection.”

”Yes, I do expect it to be perfect, with a warm family, ideally a daughter, though a son would be great too.”

But is Qian thinking this way? Yu Minglang was unsure.

Mr. Liu really wanted to show him a mirror. Did his expression really look like someone with premarital anxiety? It was clearly premarital longing, just engraving marriage and craving for kids on his face!
