Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 589: Chapter 563: Coward and Oddities

”Hahaha!” Lin Ze Guang laughed heartily at Yu Minglang’s obviously unsettled back.

Sitting in the car witnessing everything, Qian’s face flushed. Yu Minglang got in the car, started it up, and handed a chocolate to Qian.

”To replenish your energy.”

”Get lost!”

Sounds from outside came through the open car window, and Yu Minglang felt something was not quite right.

”What’s going on?” A man in pajamas came out from the residential building. He looked in his forties, slightly balding with glasses, and had a square face, resembling someone who worked in an office for a long time.

”Ah! Isn’t that my wife’s clothing?” the middle-aged man exclaimed.

”What’s wrong?” Qian asked Yu Minglang.

”I think I heard some unusual sound just now—” Yu Minglang’s car had already driven away, passing by Lin Ze Guang and the middle-aged man who came out upon hearing the sound.

Yu Minglang only heard this sentence and felt something was strange. He turned back to look and saw the middle-aged man talking to Lin Ze Guang.

”Was there anything unusual?” Qian asked.

Yu Minglang turned his head back, ”No, that guy should be from the house that got robbed, he came out when he heard the noise.”

As the car and people passed by each other, it happened in an instant. Yu Minglang didn’t hear clearly in those brief seconds, and the strange feeling just flashed by.

From analyzing the situation, the man who came out afterward should be a resident of this building. The thief stole the clothes from his house. He came out to check when he heard the noise.

Qian casually remarked, ”Why is that middle-aged man wearing glasses still awake this late?”

At this time, most households should be asleep. That’s why these burglars dared to come out.

”By the looks of him, he seems like a white-collar or government worker. People working in such places face a lot of work pressure, having insomnia is quite normal.”

Yu Minglang deduced this from the appearance of the middle-aged man who came out.

”But this guy doesn’t seem like a good person either.”

Yu Minglang’s comment puzzled Qian. She turned her head, but those people were already far away, and it wasn’t very clear through the car window.

”How can you tell he’s not a good person?”

”That little thief climbing the window probably wasn’t lying. He was just a rookie committing a crime, very clumsy movements. Climbing the window bars made a lot of noise. When I went to catch him, this guy’s bedroom window was open. If he wasn’t asleep, he should have heard the noise.”

”Did you see that man?”

”Yeah, when I caught the thief I glanced through the window. That man lives on the second floor, his bedroom facing the thief. He didn’t draw the curtains, such a big shadow and noise, if he wanted to intervene he just needed to stick his head out the window and shout to stop it, but he didn’t.”

Instead, after people came over, he emerged following the noise, clearly coming in after the fact.

Qian snorted, ”There are plenty of people like that in society, ignoring what doesn’t concern them. They don’t dare to make a sound unless threatened themselves. Even his wife’s clothes got taken and he didn’t dare stop it, coward!”

”Indeed, coward!” Yu Minglang echoed, thoughtfully glancing at the fragments of the clothing that Qian had put away, all packed in a bag.

”My wife’s intimate clothes, no one else should see them except me. Look how considerate I am, didn’t let Da Guang come over, protected my wife’s alluring figure from others!”

If he hadn’t spoken it would have been fine, but once he did Qian got even more upset, reaching out to push him, ”How dare you say that! The whole world knows what we just did!”

Yu Minglang felt quite wronged, ”Isn’t that your fault?”

”How can you still have the nerve to bring it up?” Qian felt like throwing something.

”Alright, alright, I won’t mention it! Let’s go home, Mei? I see you’re agitated, upset, oh dear, your hand-washing compulsion is acting up again, right? To prevent you from punishing yourself with excessive hand-washing, I’ll use a super treatment method that will win the Nobel Prize in Medicine in the future — Ah! I’m driving, don’t pinch me, watch out for safety!”

”You thick-skinned loudmouth! If you don’t want to get pinched, don’t say things that provoke me!”

”Really, Mei, don’t suppress yourself. Go ahead, get sick, and I’ll treat you~”

”No, need!”

The night breeze carried their playful banter far away. Qian realized that the nemesis of her hand-washing compulsion might just be thick skin. Yu Minglang teased her all the way, urging her to get sick so he could administer his ’cure’.

But that night there was neither compulsion nor nightmares of insomnia.

Just sleeping in each other’s arms, dreamless.

Early the next morning, Qian was still in deep sleep, and Yu Minglang went out with that bottle of wine.

Qian handled everything so well yesterday, including dealing with the threatening call calmly. There’s no reason she’d have a relapse after just receiving a bottle of expensive wine at dinner.

Yu Minglang didn’t plan to let Qian engage with that weird boss again, though he didn’t know what triggered Qian suddenly, his intuition linked it to the bottle of wine.

So he didn’t plan on taking Qian with him again, driving himself to the congee shop to return the bottle, intending to question the owner why such an expensive gift was given to Qian.

When he arrived, the security door was already up, a chubby man was mopping the floor. Seeing Yu Minglang enter, he didn’t even lift his head and said.

”We open at eleven in the afternoon. If you want to eat buns, come back later.”

”Where’s the owner here?” Yu Minglang realized this man wasn’t the person he was looking for.

The chubby man raised his head, ”I am, why, do you need something?”

”Where’s yesterday’s owner?” Yu Minglang asked.

”Yesterday? Oh, I closed for a day due to other matters, had a friend watch the shop for a day.”

”Is your friend named Xuan?”

”Why, do you have business with him?”

”Where did he go?”

”Abroad.”

”Abroad? What does he do?”

”I can’t tell you that, it’s my friend’s privacy. Do you have business with him?”

Yu Minglang glanced at the bag in his hand. Qian said this bottle was a genuine antique; such a precious item wouldn’t be returned unless handed to the person directly.

”Do you have his contact information, or can you tell me when he’ll be back?”
