Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 588: Chapter 562: The Situation and the Discovery

No matter how annoying Xiaoqiang gets, Qian’s mood improves significantly.

Seeing her smile, Yu Minglang feels relieved. As long as she keeps smiling, he’s fine with being thick-skinned.

He’d trade anything for her laughter.

Suddenly, Yu Minglang slams the brakes, and Qian opens her eyes and glares at him—what trouble is he up to now?

”Stay in the car and don’t move. No matter what happens, don’t make a sound,” Yu Minglang says seriously, abandoning his playful demeanor.

Noticing his serious expression, Qian sits up too.

”What’s wrong?”

”There’s a suspicious figure ahead. I’m going to check it out.”

”Be careful!” Qian says, tense.

”Don’t worry. Just remember to lock the windows and don’t open them no matter what. Use my phone to call Da Guang.”

Yu Minglang instructs her before stepping out of the car, while Qian locks the doors, refraining from turning on the headlights to avoid alerting the person ahead.

While dialing on the phone, she keeps an eye on Yu Minglang.

The darkness obscures his path; the clock shows it’s already 2 AM.

At this hour, the street is deserted. The area ahead appears normal, a residential zone. Qian lacks the trained eye to spot anomalies easily like Yu Minglang, but her trust in him is absolute.

The call goes through quickly, and Qian relays the situation. Da Guang assures her he’ll arrive within three minutes.

The entire city is under high alert with mobile patrols on almost every main road.

Yet the unlucky suspect dodged patrol cars only to fall under Yu Minglang’s keen gaze.

The night is deep and streetlights here are out; once Yu Minglang runs afar, Qian loses sight of what’s happening ahead, left to wait anxiously in the car.

These few minutes are exceedingly prolonged. Though aware of Yu Minglang’s proficient skills, knowing typical thieves can’t best him, she still worries.

What if the suspect is armed? What if there are many of them? What if they wield knives? Will Yu Minglang get hurt...

The noise outside interrupts Qian’s dreadful imaginations.

Yu Minglang’s loud voice is heard.

”I told you to run! Go on, run!”

”Big brother, I’m sorry!”

Qian hurriedly turns on the headlights. Not far ahead, Yu Minglang approaches with a man in tow—scrawny, haggard-looking, obviously not a good person.

At this moment, Lin Ze Guang also arrives.

”Minglang, what’s the situation?” Lin Ze Guang jumps out of his car and heads straight to Yu Minglang.

Yu Minglang points at the sleazy man he has detained, ”I saw him suspiciously climbing the security window and he’s carrying a knife.”

Sure enough, a knife is tucked in the man’s waist. Lin Ze Guang, sharp-eyed, immediately instructs his team to cuff the man.

”Listen, guys, it’s truly my first time here trying to commit a crime. I heard from my folks this is a lucrative gig. I only meant to steal, not hurt anyone, and yet was caught by you guys on my first attempt. I’m being honest!”

Yu Minglang notices the man’s bulging pockets and reaches in, revealing all sorts of...

Qian is a bit far away in the car, and since Yu Minglang is facing sideways, she can’t clearly see his expression.

The ground is littered with large women’s panties. Yu Minglang’s expression, presumably, is quite disgusted.

”Anything else to say?” Lin Ze Guang asks, disdainfully looking at the suspect caught red-handed amid women’s clothing.

It’s summer, many people sleep with windows open at night, creating opportunities for bad guys.

Certain regions have people who are skilled climbers, and the residential buildings now have external security windows, providing leverage to climb. Some homes on the fourth or fifth floor feel they’re high enough not to need security windows, but these criminals exploit the silent nighttime hours to climb up.

”Where did you get these clothes from? Apart from stealing, what else have you done?” Lin Ze Guang questions sternly.

The thief caught mid-climb is easily intimidated, his legs buckle as he kneels, ”I grabbed these from the second floor through a window. I intended to climb to the fourth floor, but got caught by this gentleman before I could do anything more!”

Lin Ze Guang glances at Yu Minglang.

With a nod to his team, two officers quickly restrain the thief, while Lin Ze Guang and Yu Minglang converse off to the side. Yu Minglang originally intended to lead the man close to the car for a few words, but considering Mei’s state at home, he feared Lin Ze Guang, an old friend, might notice something, so he led him to a different area.

”This guy doesn’t seem like the one we’re looking for.” Lin Ze Guang, though not having interrogated yet, feels the cowardly behavior merely resembles that of a thief, not someone audacious enough to provoke.

”Clearly not.” Yu Minglang sees it too—that this knee-knocking guy is just an ordinary thief.

”Why are you here?” Lin Ze Guang scans Yu Minglang up and down.

While seeing men shirtless in summer is extremely common, in all the time he’s known Yu Minglang, he’d never seen him like this. Suddenly, Lin Ze Guang’s gaze fixes on Yu Minglang’s shoulder.

With his extensive investigative experience, he knows instantly—these are fresh scratch marks.

”Am I not allowed to go for a midnight ride with my fiancée?” Yu Minglang, proudly raising his chin, says.

”A midnight ride is fine...”

Yu Minglang turns away, ”The man’s yours. You handle the interrogation. I’m heading home.”

”Hey, old friend!” Lin Ze Guang calls after Yu Minglang.

”Hmm?” Yu Minglang turns back, and Lin Ze Guang tosses something at him, which he catches with quick reflex.

Chocolate?

”After some exercise, you need a bit of an energy boost.” Lin Ze Guang indicates his own shoulder with a thumb, and Yu Minglang, upon looking, realizes.

Dazed.
